The month of April always seems to be a busy one along the Beltway and 2013 looks to be no different. There are a number of boxing cards in the area both on the pro and amateur side during April. Here's what we know so far.
Friday, April 12 -- Wicomico Civic Center, Salisbury, MD -- Jake The Snake Promotions will be putting on a card headlined by undefeated Salisbury cruiserweight Alex Guerrero who returns to action for the first time in 2013. Guerrero (8-0-1, five KO's) has not fought since scoring a fifth-round knockout of Harvey Jolly on September 15 in Duluth, GA. Guerrero is slated to take on Pedro Martinez of Philadelphia, PA (6-7, three KO's) in an eight-round contest. Martinez will be trying to break a three-bout losing streak.
Saturday, April 13 -- Waldorf Jaycees, Waldorf, MD -- The championships of the Washington Golden Gloves
Saturday, April 20 -- Show Place Arena, Upper Marlboro, MD -- Keystone Boxing has a card to feature undefeated locals Alantez Fox, Jarrett Hurd, Michael Reed, Jerry Odom, Kevin Rivers, Greg Newby, Gervonta Davis and Mario Murphy.
Friday, April 26 -- Echostage Lounge (formerly DC Star/DC Tunnel), Washington, DC -- G Promotions, a new company from Southern Maryland, will be putting on a card featuring Thomas Snow, Tyrieshia Douglas, the pro debut of Yurii Polischuk and two WBU (World Boxing Union) title bouts.
Friday, April 26 -- Waldorf Jaycees -- The Regional Golden Gloves. Open winners advance to the National Golden Gloves in Salt Lake City, UT May 12-19.
There are boxers competing outside the Beltway Region in April as well.
Friday, April 12 -- Dover Downs, Dover, DE -- Undefeated DC welterweight Dusty Harrison is slated to compete.
Saturday, April 27 -- Barclays Center, Brooklyn, NY -- Three Beltway Boxers are slated to participate on that card. In the co-feature, Fernando Guerrero challenges Peter Quillin for the WBO Middleweight title.
