IBF Light Welterweight champion and DC native Lamont Peterson has signed a multi-year, multi-fight deal with Golden Boy Promotions. Peterson announced the signing at a press conference this afternoon at the HeadBangers Gym in Southwest DC.
Peterson is the fifth Beltway Boxer to be associated in whole or in part with Golden Boy Promotions joining Seth Mitchell, Fernando Guerrero, Gary Russell, Jr. and the debuting D'Mitrius Ballard. Also, this signing means that Golden Boy has cornered the major championship market in the 140-pound division as IBF champ Peterson joins WBC Interim champ Lucas Matthysse and WBA/WBO titleholder Danny Garcia under the Golden Boy banner.
"We are thrilled that Lamont Peterson will be
joining Golden Boy Promotions' team," said President of Golden Boy
Promotions Oscar De La Hoya in a press release. "We know firsthand what Lamont Peterson
can do, as he's been in the ring with our fighters Amir Khan and Victor
Ortiz. We know that he is the kind of individual that will be an asset
to our team and great competitor in the 140-pound weight class."
"I am excited about signing with Golden Boy
Promotions and the opportunity to work with them again," said Peterson.
"Being with Golden Boy really gives me the chance to make the best
fights available in my weight class. I want to fight the best in the
world at 140 [pounds] and I know it can happen as a member of the Golden
Boy team. I am optimistic that this is a decision that will help
further my career."
Team Russell would like to congratulate Peterson on his career move with Golden Boy Promotions.
ReplyDeleteAlthough, we are not signed to Golden Boy Promotions the working relationship between Team Russell and Golden Boy has been very successful.
Congratulations, Lamont and Golden Boy Promotions!
Team Russell
Barry had to let him go. A little late, but later better than never. He did a good job with him. Its just so far one man can take you.

ReplyDeleteHey Gary, do you think Lamont, Seth, Fernando, and Ballard, will work together or support each other since they share the same Promotional company and are all from the DMV?
ReplyDeleteA clarification first. Only Peterson, Mitchell and Ballard are actually Golden Boy signees. Russell and Guerrero have ties with Golden Boy through Al Haymon but are not signed with the company.
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question, I believe there is definitely will be support for everyone involved. I believe there will be some working together in the future.
Its about time these gyms, fighters, and trainers establish some unity and stop hoping for each others downfall.
DeleteHey Gary any word on the undercard for Lamont fight ?
ReplyDeleteNo word yet. I have inquired with folks at Gary Shaw Promotions, no word yet.
