BATB has learned that the recent loss suffered by Alexandria, VA junior welterweight Todd "White Lightning" Wilson has been overturned by the Virginia State Commission. On December 1 in Winchester, VA, Wilson was stopped in the second round by Jose Angel Roman. However, the commission has overturned the result based on medical issues in the Roman camp and the bout has been declared no contest. Wilson remains undefeated at 14-0, four KO's.
DC heavyweight Tony "The Tiger" Thompson will return to action on Saturday, February 23 as he faces undefeated David Price of Liverpool, England at the Echo Arena in Liverpool. Thompson (36-3, 24 KO's) will be looking to bounce back from his sixth-round TKO world championship loss to Wladimir Klitschko on July 7 in Berne, Switzerland.
Price (15-0, 13 KO's) is regarded as one of the emerging contenders in the heavyweight division as he holds both the British and Commonwealth titles and having knocked out more established British heavies Matt Skelton and Audley Harrison along the way.
Both men are ranked -- Price is ninth by the WBC, Thompson is 10th by the IBF. The bout will be shown on WealthTV.
IBF Junior Welterweight champion Lamont Peterson may finally return to action. Peterson's proposed title defense against former world champ Kendall "Rated R' Holt went to a purse bid today. Only one promotional group -- Gary Shaw Promotions -- placed a bid. The bout cost $50,000 and must take place within 90 days.
Wow being white in Va get you far i see
ReplyDeleteI guess Julius Kennedy (a black man) can say the same thing after his loss was overturned IN THE SAME STATE!!
ReplyDeleteGary Williams is without question the most decent and fairest person I've ever met in my entire life. I wish I knew more like him...
ReplyDeleteMost appreciated!!
ReplyDeleteYeah..Kennedy had his glove on the ground though..and they had video of it, what was the reason for Todds?
ReplyDeleteWhile discussing this with Dave Sewell (who worked the opponents corner in this fight) I was told by Dave and Emanuel Taylor, they would like to see a fight with Todd Wilson and Emanuel Taylor.

Charm City Boxing
Still trying to find an official statement on the overturning of the decision.
ReplyDeleteDave Sewell and Coach Herb can speak all they want about a Taylor vs Wilson fight but they would be better off yelling and screaming for it, but it will not happen soon. Taylor is coming off a six round win over George Sosa who was starched in the first round by Sammy Vasquez out of Pittsburgh. And Taylor's next fight is in New York against Ray Serrano (18-1) on a Joe DeGuardia card (who promotes Serrano)on January 25th. Taylor's handlers have clearly decided to take Emanuel on the road and it is shaping up to be a very tough road.
ReplyDeleteWhy is Emanuel Taylor suddenly becoming an opponent on out of town cards? Who is making those choices for him? Does he have a manager or is he self-managed?
ReplyDeleteBeing a white boy in Va doesn't
ReplyDeletealways work in your favor.
More to follow soon.
Scott Farmer.
not always but most of the time. right? we should all ask jimmmy lang.
ReplyDeleteJimmy Lange was the only boxer making VA any money. The Virginia Commission hasn't given him preferential treatment in any way. He's lost fights he should have got the decision on in his home state. Tony Jeter, Fontaine Cabell (a draw), and even Chase Shields. All would have gone to Lange in almost any other state in the US. And being white? Who gives a shit about that garbage these days! It's 2012, come on man!
ReplyDeleteget it over by now
ReplyDeleteSay what you want Dave Holland.
ReplyDeleteBeing knocked out flat on your face is knocked out flat on your face.
Coach Herb,get in line please
ReplyDeleteI wish I was white
ReplyDeleteWell I find this is yet another reason why boxing is such a screwed up business. Someone gets knocked out fair and square and it gets over turned. Take your lumps like a man. The only thing I could think of would be if the other guy failed a urine test. However in VA the only time fighters get urine tested is if the fight is for some kind of title. No title on the line for that fight. Whoever was in charge of the show was trying to protect that ticket selling wilson. Protect him they did. Got him knocked out and now since he was knocked out he will fight 10 more bums just to build up the confidence to fight another .500 fighter and lose again. Situations like this push me further and further away from boxing and onto other professional endeavors. Oh and I am white, 140/147 lbs, a ticket seller and I would knock Wilson out cold and not have any dirty pee pee! And if Wilson or his people dont like this comment then tell him to stop saying we are on the same level. Everyone knows who to contact should they want to see this fight.
ReplyDelete-DooMan
white lighting vs the savior, i would like to see that
ReplyDeleteNo fan of Todd but he would hurt "the savior".
ReplyDeleteI guess if you bring a bus load of drunks to your fights, when you get knocked out it doesn't count? This is ridiculous. Boxing is a dirty business.
ReplyDeletewould not be able to choose between juan or todd but i am sure todd wont hurt the savior, ive seen two of his fights and juan seems quite strong, kind of slow but strong
ReplyDeleteThe fact that the Wilson v Roman fight was declared a no decision has nothing to do with white or black or whether boxing is a dirty business. Those comments are racist and stupid. The fight would have been declared a no decision in every state in America, because Roman failed one of the tests that the the Commission required he take. Pure and simple.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good writing Gary. And yea, Todd doesn't deserve the win.
ReplyDeleteThe bus load of drunks comment was the best here.
Someday I hope I can be "TERRIBLEA". Someday.
ReplyDeleteWe have taken a lot of fighters to fights in Va. and we've never taken or seen any "test." What test did the boxer fail?
ReplyDeleteRegardless, this has nothing to do with race and it probably has everything to do with who can sell tickets to fights.
Now that's the truth because keystone out of MD don't care how good yoi fight can u sell tickets is what matters.
Deletethe only tests that are required in VA are blood tests, they are done before the fight even happens. If its a title fight then urine test are given.....BS call on this fight.
ReplyDeleteI do not know the cirumstances as to why this was overturned. However I do know that the fighter in question has failed multiple drug tests in the past.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the VA commission as a precaution or condition made him take additional tests before and after the fight. Again I don't know but that maybe the case.
Just something to snack on
ReplyDeleteThe only colot that matters is the color green... dollar dollar bill yall.
ReplyDeleteFree colot for everyone.
ReplyDeleteHey man, how come every part of your post lacked grammar and seemed to have came from a 12 year old with a Snoop Dogg CD until the "...end of story."
ReplyDeleteAmazing turn around, and only in a mere single, rambling, Internet blog entry. Te Salute.
It's a business, man! If you have the best fighters in the world, and nobody comes - what you got? Nothing! If nobody comes to support the fighters on the show, you don't have a show.
ReplyDeleteThat's bull if the promotor promotes instead of having the fighter promoting his self and have the best fighting the best it will sell it self.
ReplyDeleteIt may help having the best fight the best but I can assure you that it won't balance out.
ReplyDeleteThe better fighters in the area demand large purses to fight other good fighters and the return on the fight just doesn't add up.
Besides the areas better fighters don't want to fight tough anyway.
fidumn
Neither was Wilson. Your point?
ReplyDeleteGet on the good side of the VA commission, hmm doubt it. I don't do or have any plans of doing anything in VA
ReplyDeleteWhen is the peterson fight going to take place and at what venue?
ReplyDeleteThere you go Gary taking up for your buddies again.
ReplyDeleteYou prove my points time and time again.
Just sayin
Right now, according to Peterson's folks, the Holt fight is a "viable option" not a certainty. There is no guarantee the fight happens at all. That's something to wait and see.
ReplyDeleteA bout with Bradley is on the table still as is another bout.
As far as me taking up for my "buddies," I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about. If you're referring to the statement I made about Wilson and Kennedy, I'm just saying that both men were involved in overturned situations and the color of their skin did not matter.
Taylor's manager is a guy named David Price, whom I have not met.
ReplyDeleteHey this is Jose roman, a urine test is what i failed but that dont give me the power to knock someone out that was all me and trainin.... so wilson if u want to do it again then lets go cus what happen befor will happen again... I been in the ring with the best and ever had a easy fight so say what u guys want i know what happen that night....why was i the only one to take a drug test out of all the fighters on the card that night... and no its not because of my past if one fighter takes it then why not the other fighters on that card... they r helpin a no body cus he is big in ticket sellin but that dont mean shit....lets do it again and this time ill pass the drug test....
ReplyDeleteGary, this is CJ with Sports Debate Radio, We are going to be addressing this issue on my show this sunday, I would love to have you as a guest. Todd and his team should be on the show as well, there is something written here by people who do not even have the balls to put who they are that I would dispute since I actually covered the fight. Please let me know, and if anyone knows what he tested positive for, please post
ReplyDeleteWho cares wat you are talking about go troll elsewhere
