Undefeated Capitol Heights, MD featherweight "Mr." Gary Russell, Jr. returns to action on Saturday, November 9 as he headlines a card called "The Night of The Olympians" at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, CA.
Russell (20-0, 12 KO's) will take on Vyacheslav Gusev of Prokopyevsk, Russia (20-2, five KO's) in the 10-round main event contest, which will headline a ShoBox telecast on Showtime. Both men are ranked among the contenders in the featherweight division. The WBA places Russell at number four and Gusev at number 11. The WBO has Gusev (the WBO European champion) at number eight and Russell at nine.
Russell, a member of the 2008 US Olympic team, is coming off a third-round TKO over Christopher Perez on June 30 at Fantasy Springs Casino. Gusev is on a four-bout winning streak with his last win -- a 12-round unanimous decision over Padjai Yonyuthgym on April 30 in Moscow -- earning him the European title and the PABA Featherweight title.
The card will also have the pro debuts of members of the 2012 US Olympic team including Russell's 2008 teammate and three-time Olympian Rau'shee Warren. Also scheduled to make their maiden voyage into the pro ranks are Dominic Breazeale, Errol Spence, Marcus Browne and Terrell Gausha.
