There are some significant changes to the Saturday, February 11 card at the George Mason University Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA.
Zain Shah has pulled out of his bout with Harry Joe Yorgey, citing the flu. Yorgey will now face Lawrence Jones (4-5-2, one KO) who fights out of the same LA Boxing gym. Jones will be making his fifth appearance at the Patriot Center. On September 10, Jones won a six-round unanimous decision over Jose Felix.
The rematch between Virginia boxers Juan "The Savior" Rodriguez and Richie "The Rock" Andrews has fallen out as well. Rodriguez is out and Baltimore's Kevin "The Scarecrow" Womack, Jr. is in, marking the second straight undefeated boxer that Andrews has faced. Womack (2-0, two KO's) scored the BATB Knockout of the Year in November 2011 when he stopped Benjamin Olinga in the fourth round at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, MD.
In other card news, DC Boxing Hall of Fame ring announcer Henry "Discombobulating" Jones will return to announce his 13th Patriot Center card. Also, there will be live music for the first time at a Patriot Center card. Northern Virginia rock band Grand Revival will perform before the card at 6:15 and then play at the after party on the concourse. All fans are invited to the after party.
A number of boxers on the card will make media appearances throughout the rest of the week. Here's the lineup:
TONIGHT -- February 7 -- WBC Female Middleweight champ Tori "Sho Nuff" Nelson appears on Sports Talk on NewsChannel 8 with Alex Parker at 9 PM ET.
Wednesday -- February 8 -- WBU Junior Middleweight champ Jimmy Lange will be on ESPN 980's John Thompson Show with Rick "Doc" Walker at approx. 2:30 PM ET.
Lange will be taping a segment with Fox 5 that will be airing later in the week.
Also, Todd "White Lightning" Wilson will join Glenn Harris on NewsChannel 8's Sports Talk at 9 PM ET.
Thursday -- February 9 -- Lange is a guest of the Mike Wise Show with Holden Kushner on 106.7 The Fan at 2:20 PM ET.
THIS JUST IN: Also, there is another regional title added to the main event. Lange and Ruben Galvan will be fighting for the vacant NABU (North American Boxing Union) title as well as Lange's WBU title.
You know how people used to say "Mike Tyson conqueror Kevin McBride" after McBride beat Tyson or "Mike Tyson conqueror Danny Williams" when Danny Williams beat Tyson. Instead of just plain old Lawrence Jones you should say "Jose Felix conqueror Lawrence Jones!" That's because when Jose Felix busted Jeter's hole wide f/n open Felix reached the rarified air of Championship Contender! And Jones of course beat Felix, so he should from now on be referred to as "Jose Felix Conqueror" Lawrence Jones! And oh yeah, and yes I know it's a different card, but Jose Felix is going to bizust that bizass again!" Suck it Jeter!
ReplyDeleteInteresting changes on this card.
ReplyDeletedissapointed to see Zain is not fighting but Lawrence will give the same kind of effort that Zain would.
Wow,The Savior is out and the Scarecrow is in.Another dissapointment. The first fight was a thriller from what I heard
Does anybody know why the Savior pulled out?
Jones will give a good effort but shah is a better fighter. sad to see this fight not happen.
ReplyDeleteNow this card ain't worth me spending my money.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck to Jose Felix Conqueror Lawrence Jones! Aint nothing special about Yorgey. And you can't say that about Jones without saying "Tony Jeter Conqueror Jose Felix!" My what a conquest of the ages and an upset of monumental proportions when Felix knocked out that killer Tony Jeter! And he's gonna bust that hole wide open again! And in his own gym!
ReplyDeleteGood luck Lawrence Jones! And to Felix, break a leg! And while you're at it break a face too!
i heard juan rodriguez is having health problems hope its nothing serious cause i would like to see him in the ring again
ReplyDeletegary any updates on silver glove results
ReplyDeleteYou guys really must be close to jones to think he will have a chance sat
ReplyDeleteWas an A card now an A+ card
ReplyDeleteWas an A card now an A+ card
ReplyDeleteHarry Joe Yorgey is basically Jessie Nicklow. Same guy really. Does Yorgey have more left than Nicklow? Probably. But don't forget the terrible knockout he suffered at the hands of Alfredo Angulo. And if you didn't see it, it was reminiscent of Arturo Gattis 3 punch combination that knocked out Joey Gamache. Every punch was a knockout punch on its own, but as a combination, it was downright lethal. Angulo's KO of Yorgey was almost as devastating and as Yorgey was unconscious and still on his fight, Angulo nailed him with some clean, vicious shots. Those are the types of knockouts that end careers and wreck chins forever. Jones has a puncher's chance. Not the same puncher's chance that Shah had, but a chance nontheless. Good luck Jones.
ReplyDeleteI have heard some items on the Silver Gloves but nothing concrete yet.
ReplyDeleteThis card is a big joke what the hell are you talking about A+ please you are not fooling anybody put some real contenders up there.
ReplyDeleteCard of the year!

ReplyDeleteHe will come in with the guy who wears sunglasses in a dark room.
That is a lame group that kid is with.
why is the group the savior is with lame?
ReplyDeletei believe he is a good fighter and the two times ive seen him he always puts on a good fight to watch
He is a very strong fighter and I'm sure the people he's with know some things about the sport but they just looked real strange and funny the times I've seen them.I think they must be using drugs or something.Or maybe their inbread or something like that
ReplyDeleteNot really hating on the people I guess theres a place even for freaks in boxing.
