Khan Camp Drops IBF Appeal!

Former super lightweight champion Amir Khan has withdrawn his appeal for an immediate rematch against new champ Lamont Peterson with the IBF.

Khan and his promoter Golden Boy Promotions were going to attend a hearing with the IBF on Wednesday, but the request for the hearing was withdrawn.

"We've been reviewing everything, including the latest paperwork which we received from the IBF, and I sat down with Team Khan and we realized that based on the makeup of that hearing that it would have been a very one-sided story," Golden Boy promoter Richard Schaefer told ESPN.com.

"Since not everyone that was in Washington -- the IBF officials and supervisor -- would have been in attendance there would not have been a complete story told," he said. "You don't go to hear a partial side of the story, so we decided to withdraw the appeal and focus our time on Amir's next fight. We will be meeting with HBO (on Wednesday) and have something to announce soon as it relates to a date and site."

Khan is saying that he wants a rematch with Peterson so badly, he has authorized Golden Boy to authorize a 50-50 split with Peterson. This of course leads to the question:

How can the challenger dictate what the champion would make?

usually purse bids or 60/40 in favor of the champ. but if it doesn't go to purse bid it's what the market will bear and who the draw is. incredible performance by peterson but Khan has the HBO/Promoter ties. i hope peterson makes as much money as he can but he shouldn't get caught up with what khan makes imo. do your thing peterson and if you get him again take his ass out of there and don't let it go to the judges!

Khan is the draw. It doesnt matter who is the Champ went your talking a 50/50 world wide with a draw like Khan! You're looking at atleast two million for Lamont. Khan brings 5000 plus fans from is homeland. Thats a great offer! Get that money Lamont and Barry. This time you will knock his protesting @ss out.

I would like to see Lamont make a defense of the belt in D.C. (maybe Verizon Center or AU's Bender Arena this time). Then he can go fight Kahn, and I think the perfect "neutral" venue for that would be in Atlantic City. They have great experience with big fights, and it would be easy to get to for fans from D.C.

It's not like the money is going to be taken off the table if Lamont is able to defend successfully against someone else. That would also give him a chance to capitalize on his new-found fame in this area.

Of course, if Pacquaio wants to fight him, then you take that money and give it a shot against Manny.

Ha, and what promoter is gonna promote that card, the DC Diva who everyone loves, ha! What kind of draw do you think DC can bring after a performance and controversy that just happened. Isn't gonna happen. Lamont you better cash out now with the 50/50 split with Khan, because I don't see anything beyond that. Maybe after Barry and whoever else is done free loadin off you, you won't end up broke again.

The Mystery Man, Mustafa Ameen, told the BBC Sport that he noticed a mistake that WBA supervisor Michael Welsh made on his score sheet and helped him with correcting it during the December 10th fight between former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan and Lamont Peterson.

Ameen told the BBC “I noticed one error and subsequent error. I assisted him in correcting it without touching anything…I saw I believe, it would have been, nine, nine, nine, which is 27 all day long. There was an error. It might have been 26 or 28 but he was off by a point or two. I happened to look down and I said ‘Michael, 9 x 3 is 27.’ He said ‘Oh my god’ and corrected himself. And he said I’m not feeling well this evening, thank you very much.”

There it is, folks. That’s the extent of the Mystery Man’s presence at the Khan-Peterson fight. As he said, Ameen never touched anything with his own hands, all he did was point out a tiny error in Welsh’s scoring. He didn’t change anything to help Peterson in any way.

All he did was notice a mistake that Welsh made and pointed it out to him. What’s wrong with that? People have made a bit production about the Mystery man, seeing him as someone that altered the outcome of the fight. It wasn’t his fault that Khan couldn’t do anything with Peterson’s inside game. Peterson fought perfect fight and had Khan running, shoving, pushing and holding all night long.

That judge is suppose to turn his score card over in between rounds and Amen had no business looking at his score card being that he wasn't in attendence in an "Official" capacity!!

how ever you spell his name, Ameen.

You know, this is interesting. First Golden Boy and Khan were all super pissed about the verdict of the fight. Now all of a sudden, they gone quiet? And you know Mayweather been looking for an opponent this May. Who knows? lol

"How can the challenger dictate what the champion would make?"

The same reason why the challenger brought more people to DC than the now illegitimate champion did. More people came across the Atlantic from the UK to support and watch Khan than Petersen had in his own hometown. Thats pretty sad and thats why the now challenger can and will dicatate the pay. Lets face it and be honest with each other, Petersen's are not fighters that are in high demand to watch.

I'd drive to Atlantic city for rematch. Wouldn't make it to vegas tho.

Exactly what I mean...no loyalty from the Peterson fans. Khan has fans that fly from other continents to show support. Thats why he has the upper hand still financially.
