'Smokin' Joe Frazier Passes at 67!
Truly one of my personal favorite fighters (in and out of the ring) has passed today. We hear official word that the one and only "Smokin'" Joe Frazier died of liver cancer at the age of 67.
We know a lot of the stats of Frazier the fighter -- the Olympic gold medal in Tokyo in 1964, his three tremendous bouts against Muhammad Ali and so much more. He was one of the very, very best.
It's very sad that Mr. Frazier will not make his usual trip to DC for Fight Night this week so he can be revered by his fans. My deepest condolences to his son Marvis and daughter Jacqui.
This is not the best obit I can write, but quite frankly, how do you top what has already been said?

Joe Frazier, World Heaveyweight Boxing Champion during one of the greatest eras in the sport. He will truly be missed. Mourn his passing, but also celebrate his incredible life and accomplishments. Thanks Joe (Champ) for the memories.

What else can you say? Great fighter, every bit as good as Muhammad Ali.
The true testament to the toughness and sacrifice made by 1970's era heavyweight fighters is to look at the toll they took on each other in later life. Norton, Ali, Fraizer, Middleton, the Quarrys, Shavers all have suffered from significant health issues. Foreman somehow has proven to be the most durable. Smoking Joe was simply a warrior, heart with a hook.
