USA National Wrapup!

The Beltway did indeed bring back one national champion in 165-pound female titleholder Franchon Crews, however the Beltway will be well represented when the Men's Olympic Trials take place July 31-August 6 in Mobile, AL and when the Women's Olympic Trials begin in February 2012 at a site still to be determined.

Jerry Odom did indeed suffer an injury to his lip that caused him to not battle in the 178-pound final last night, however, Odom's place in the Olympic Trials was already secured.

The same can be said for both our 141-pounders -- Michael Reed and Gary Allen Russell Both notched spots at the trials before the USA National Championships.

The strong third-place perfomances of Greg Outlaw (112 pounds) and Antoine Douglas (165 pounds) punched their ticket for Mobile in July.

D'Mitrius Ballard (165 pounds) and Danny Kelly (201+) will be heading to the Olympic Trials because of earlier wins.

Also, Tyrieshia Douglas will be at the Women's Olympic Trials as she won a silver medal at 112 pounds. Douglas will have to find a way to get past Marlan Esparza, who has now won six straight USA National titles and has beaten Douglas two straight years in the national finals.

Off the top of my head, these are the boxers that I know are heading to the Olympic Trials from this region. If there is anyone I have missed, please let me know.
