'Sugar Poo' Challenges For NABF Super Middleweight Title July 8 in Phoenix!

Capitol Heights, MD super middleweight Henry "Sugar Poo" Buchanan returns to action in a 12-round contest for the vacant NABF Super Middleweight championship against Jesus "El Martillo" Gonzales of Phoenix, AZ on Friday, July 8 at the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix. The bout will be carried by ESPN2.

Buchanan (20-2, 13 KO's) has not fought since August of 2010 when he scored a ninth-round TKO over Bobby Jordan in Norfolk, VA. Since that bout, Buchanan has also changed managers as he is now under the guidance of local promoter Abe Peay.

Gonzales (26-1, 14 KO's) is riding a nine-bout winning streak since suffering his only loss -- an eighth-round TKO against Jose Luis Zertuche in September of 2005. This will be Gonzales's second straight bout at the Celebrity Theater. Gonzales won a 12-round unanimous decision over veteran Dhafir Smith on March 18. This was the bout after Smith defeated Jeff Lacy in December.

Lets hope Henry takes this seriously. With a win on ESPN could set himself up for a big fight in one of the best divisions in boxing.

Same venue that former beltway prospect Lamont Pearson fought Orlando Salido in March, 2002. Great arena for boxing.
