Seven Beltway Amateurs Advance to USA National Semifinals!

Seven local amateurs remain in competition at the USA Boxing National Championships in Colorado Springs, CO as the event reaches its semifinal round.

During the afternoon session yesterday, 141-pounders Gary Allen Russell of Capitol Heights, MD and Michael Reed of Waldorf, MD both advanced to the final four. Russell decisioned Abel Ramos of Eloy, AZ 40-32 while Reed won a 24-12 decision over Manuel Lopez, Jr. of Centennial, CO.

In the 165-pound class, Antoine Douglas of Burke, VA decisioned Andre Penn of Rapid City, SD, 17-11.

And in the 108-pound bracket, Greg Outlaw of Glenarden, MD scored a 28-17 decision over Anthony Taylor of Jackson, TN.

During the evening session, Tyrieshia Douglas of Baltimore advanced to the 112-pound female semis with a 23-14 decision over Berenice Hernandez of Las Vegas.

In the 165-pound female semis, Franchon Crews of Baltimore won by RSC-4 over Audrey Drew of Dallas, TX.

Also in the 178-pound male bracket, Jerry Odom of Bowie, MD advanced to the semis with a 34-27 decision over Tony Mack of Plano, TX.

Failing to advance to the semis were Asia Stevenson (132 pounds female) and Dara Shen (165 pounds).

  1. congratulation to the PVA, our team is doing great. We r dominating the 141lb division, I hope Mike and Allen both end up in the final's we will have a great champ either way. Good luck to the Outlaw, A. Douglas, and T. Douglas, D.C. represent. All those boxers have made it to the olympic trials
