Three Beltway amateurs have advanced to Saturday's Championship round at the USA Boxing National Championships in Colorado Springs, CO.
Jerry Odom of Bowie, MD scored an RSC-3 Sean Bettencourt of Stoughton, MA in the semis of the 178-pound division. Odom will now face Jesse Hart of Philadelphia in Saturday's final.
Meanwhile, two of our females will be in the final round. Tyrieshia Douglas of Baltimore moved into the championship of the 112-pound division with a 17-11 decision over Poula Estrada of Palmdale, CA. Douglas will battle Marlen Esparza of Houston, TX in the final.
At 165 pounds, Franchon Crews of Baltimore earned her way into the final with a close 14-13 decision over Tiffanie Ward of Hacienda Heights, CA. Crews will take on Alyssa DeFazio of Peoria, AZ in the final.
One of the more anticipated bouts of the tournament will take place in Friday's Consolation Round, not in the finals. Both Michael Reed of Waldorf, MD and Gary Allen Russell of Capitol Heights, MD lost their semi-final bouts in the 141-pound class, so they will battle each other for third place in the tournament. Reed was disqualified in his bout against Semajay Thomas of Chicago, IL while Russell fell by medical walkover to Thomas Duquette of Waltham, MA.
Glenarden, MD 108-pounder Greg Outlaw and Burke, VA 165-pounder Antoine Douglas both lost their semi-final bout and will also be in Friday's consolation.

Congrats to Crews!
Reed and Allen won't box each other this time, Allen lost on a medical walkover, that meen's he pulled out of the tournament. He will end up in 4th place, Reed finishes in 3rd place. I heard Reed was winning his fight easily, and kept having problems with his mouthpeice, and was DQued. Good luck in the olympic trials fella's
