Special Boxing Show Honors Dr. Hammonds!

There will be a very special community boxing show that will be held on Friday, July 16 at Turkey Thicket Recreation Center, 1100 Michigan Avenue, NE in DC.

The show will be very special because it will be held in tribute to one of the greatest and beloved people to have ever been a part of the Beltway Boxing Community -- Dr. Karl Hammonds. Dr. Hammonds passed away on July 7, 2009 and his contributions to our young people and to boxing as a whole in this area have been and will continue to be sorely missed.

The card is free to the public and hopefully we can get a strong turnout. The boxing begins at 7 PM.

gary, in your opinion how well do these free cards work? do people come out, are there plenty of boxers and officials who are happy to work on a no-profit card?

Good questions. People do come out to these free cards, if nothing else because of the curiousity.

According to the information, this show will be held outdoors so plenty of people in the neighborhood should be there. As far as the officials, it has been my experience that they are happy to be there for these events and to honor someone like Dr. Hammonds, there should be more people involved.
