Undefeated Brandywine, MD heavyweight Seth "Mayhem" Mitchell has an opponent for his Friday, May 7 ESPN2 battle at the Don Haskins Convention Center in El Paso, TX. Mitchell (16-0-1, 10 KO's) will take on "Lethal" Johnnie White of St. Martinsville, LA (22-1, 18 KO's) in a scheduled 10-round affair.
Mitchell is coming off a third-round technical knockout over Ryan Thompson on April 2 at the Washington Convention Center. Mitchell has knocked out three of his last four opponents. That string began with Mitchell's first ESPN2 appearance on August 14 when he stopped Andrae Carthron in the first round in Tucson, AZ.
White won an eight-round unanimous decision over Arron Lyons in his last outing on September 26 in Kinder, LA. White's only loss came against former world title contender Dominick Guinn in April of last year. White was stopped in the first round.

Thomas Williams got knocked out cold tonight in the second round by a 16 1/2 year old kid from District Hgts. Md. I have never seen such a devasting knock out in the amateurs in my life.
The crowd was cruel and sing goodnight Thomas...
This is what I am talking about. the heavyweight division needs this. While neither one of them are big names, they have potential. Sick and tired of seeing contenders fight bums until they are 40-0. This is a step in the right direction.
@Cody: I did not know fans were cruel in the amateurs. Some people are just plain out heartless.
@ Cody this is the wrong thread 4 that. It was a good shot and Thomas did get up but was still out of it. He came down to 165 and didn't look as strong. D'mitrius is not 16 1/2 either idiot. He just won the under 19. He's open and closer to 18 years old. Oh, yeah, he is also the National JO Champion too. It was a good match, but Thomas just got caught. Crowd reacted, not cruel. You are hatin'.
Dmitrius just turned 17 last month
I do not think Cody was hatin; I know him very well. He has only been to a few boxing matches and seemed very excited and impressed with the amateur boxers. I myself thought that Thomas Williams was completely outclassed and it was a very crucial right hand knock out. My only hope is that Thomas is ok.
From what I gather, USA Boxing will now hold his boxing book for 180 days. The crowd was somewhat mean in my eyes too. Anytime you are standing up cheering and laughing while a boxer is out cold in the middle of the ring, not knowing if he is going to ever wake up or not. That's pure mean to me.Either way, I hope Thomas Williams recovers fully. He needs to take some serious time off.
Look People: Give Thomas Williams some dame credit. He may have been Cold-Cocked but he had the heart to get in there with the best in the country. Not many would dare to even fight DeMetrious Ballerd
Thomas Williams is a chip off the block. Same shit happen to Pops several times.
This is boxing people. do you expect the crowd to be silent? They come to see KOs (general public) or the best box the best. Good bout. Good shot. Thomas got up and it won't be 180 days. He also immediately after the stoppage was able to bow to the judges and talk to his corner about what happened. Seemed to have it together shortly after the loss. Restriction to compete will be 30 most likely. 60 and 90 are mostly for when a boxer is unconscious and then unresponsive. The length is determined by the physician based on how long they were "out" or unresponsive to stimuli.
Bullsh*t! I thought he was pro under the infamous headbangers mob. How and the hell u dip back into the amateurs thinking your gonna cake walk all ova the competion and knocked out by a kid in his first real open tournament. Yeah he won the under 19. Like it says under 19. Says alot about his professional preparation. Makes u say Mmmmmmmmm!
Could we have more comments on Seth on this thread, please?
go seth LoL
Post a tread about the USA's please.
I didn't attend the USA's last night. Someone needs to provide results.
Thomas Williams will be going back to Cherry Lane after he gets cleared by his physician. Personally, after getting hit with that sledge hammer, he needs to consider retirement. Did you see the look on Greg Tilmans face when Thomas collaspased to the canvas.
I didn't attend the USA's last night. Someone needs to provide results.
results will be in when tournament is completely over sunday at 7
johny white will destroy seth, he was robbed in a premature stoppage vs guinn, and will take his anger out on the overprotected mitchell.

Yes, I posted this before. But Gary said he wanted comments about Seth Mitchell and im trying to steer people in the right direction away from that other crap.
BTW, I have NEVER seen Seth Mitchell but have heard people talk. ESPN has been covering a lot of great shows recently. Great main events.
Thomas Williams is emmbarrassing to the sport of boxing. Retarded father too...
both r bums n have been exposed
Are you saying Seth Mitchell And Johnnie White are bums?? or are you saying Thomas Williams and the D'mitrius are bums??
They have both been exposed (going off records because I have never seen neither one of them fights) BUT, this will be a good fight (hopefully exciting as well) for the heavyweight division. The heavyweight division has started to deliver quality fights. I think they are noticing that the Klits are unbeatable by anybody currently in the division (they are boring as hell though) so they are putting on good fights away from the title.
It started with Arreola vs. Adamek saturday. Hopefully other divisions start doing the same.
Here are some of the champions for the USA tournament by weight divisions 114- Antonio Russell, 123 - Shadeed Floyd, 132- Joel Young, 141- Mike Reed, 152- Alantez Fox, 165- Demetrius Ballard, 178- Jerry Odom, 200- ?, 200+ - Danny Kelly. Good luck in the regionals. Notable boxers that are either at-large winners and will all ready be in the nationals or who were injured and could not compete. Kevin Rivers at-large at 132, Allen Russell injured and could not compete at 141. Also congratulations to all of the J.O. winners which tournament also took place over the weekend. Both teams should do well in the regionals and the nationals.
i take it david grayton lost?
Grayton lost to Fox in a very competitive fight
D'Mitrius Ballard is a hell of a boxer and should be taken more serious. From my sources, Thomas' ppl was talkin mad sh!t until he got KO so it goes both ways...but yea, go ahead and post a thread for USA's so I can really get into this.
How long is Thomas suspension?/
This is Coach Roach from No "X" Cuse Boxing, thank you for the comment weather negative or positive. It really help me with my barometer to keep pushing. I also let the kids that I train, read some of the comments. I use them as learning tool and also energy to keep pushing. "If I can help someone along the way, then my life will not be in vain."
Let's start a discussion:
Should the length of amateur fights go from 1:30 to 3 minutes??
I believe so. Never saw the reason of cutting the round in half. Maybe for the younger ones but not for the older fighters. Really can't get a good rhythm going on in 1:30
D. Ballard only needed 45 seconds of the second round to knock loud mouth thomas williams out cold. He hit him so hard his semi retarded pops felt it. Truth be told, Demond Nicholson would have knocked loud mouth out too,but towards the end of the 3rd round.
Thomas's USA book was taken until proven scat scan says he is ok to box again. I hear he wants to go back to Cherry Lane, but he is now damaged goods and they told him to saty where he is at. Oh well, Juice is selling the tape like hot cakes. Rosemary Weds has it on her website.
WHATS DA WEB ADRESS??
It only took 20 seconds.
fight will be on youtube soon.
where can I get the Williams vs ballerd fight on the net???
Com'on Gary, u fumbling the ball! These younger's are the beltway! These are serious tournaments in the amateur division. I'm sure u have people 2 fill u in, such as in other tournaments were u didn't attend. Please, fix this! These kids are the future, give them there props now before they become famous!!!
To the poster who was asking about the how long the rounds are. The open division bouts are 3min for 3 rounds. Junior bouts for 14, 15, and 16 year olds are 1:45 for 3 rounds. For kids younger 1mn for 3 rounds
Thomas Williams has officially retired. He tried, he gave it what he could. Had a good run at it. Now please. let's leave him alone and wish him luck at whatever he may choose to do. Ofcourse, he has made mistakes, haven't we all. Yes I know he wishes he had never left Cherry Lane, but it's no sense in crying over spilled milk.
On tape Thomas is explaining how he slipped and it was not a knock down. Yes just yesterday he was asking Wilma when does the USA open tournament start? LMFAO
lots of fighters have been brutally knocked out and come back from it hell i think guererro got caught good at one of those national tournaments and he is fine t dub just needs to get back on the bike
That kid Ballard was taught well by McCann up at Hillcrest. He was taught the old fashion way and now it's paid off big. He will be amongst the guys on 2012 team.
Hillcrest still has a champion or two left in them. Good luck Ballard and keep up the good work.
He left Hillcrest almost a year ago, but I agree, he's a throw-back fighter. They taught him well!
Exciting young man to watch...
Is the youtube up yet? I heard but I missed the hook that sat him down>
D'mitrius hasn't been at Hillcrest for all most 4 years. He learned a lot from Mr. McCann but thats Roach work you all see in the ring right now.
You jokers are funny as shit! when a fighter does good, you claim its the new coach, when the fighters does bad, you claim its the old coach. a kid who learns how to ride a bike, continues to ride the same way. give the first damn coach the credit he deserves. my god, how old are you? 13? The Ballard boxer learned from the Old Man and everyone knows it. Same damn thing with all the Round 1 fighters spread all over now. AD trained them all, and trained them well. All of sudden-others want the credit. Yes I admit the new coach can get someone in better shape, but teach him to box different-forget it. Nothing against the new coach on the block, but it's like a 20 year moving in the neighborhood saying she,s a virgin. Yea Right!!!
She'd been there, did that>>>
Get a kid when his 10 and teach him-then you can claim him.
Look at Brian Williams, he admits he learned everything before he was 16 from his old trainer. Wake Up Weazle, Smell the Coffee.
Hey Cappie, I know you been around a long, long time so I will not argue with you. But the kid has been looking good latly. By the way, your friend Stan passed away in Feb. I seen his sister over at the old station
D'mitrius has been doing very well before he clipped Thomas. Check his resume'. He's representing NoXcuse Boxing and Coach Roach very well. All his championships were won under Roach.
Bikes don't punch. Lol!
What's Cappie, long time. I heard you moved to NY. Anyways, I know the young man Ballard and to be honest Cappie, he has been doing real swell latly. I know that McCann trained him for the most part of his boxing days, but the coach Roch is doing ok too. Sure McCann showed him most everything he knows but Roch kept the same game plan and is making out ok. Can't teach an old dog new tricks. Anyway, the kid looks great. I'm sure he will represent well in the US tournament.
D'mitrius has been with Coach Roach longer than he has been with Mr. McCann so get your facts straight. This is simple math ladies and gentlemen. He didn't start winning until he got with Coach Roach. That's no secret. McCann taught him some good stuff while he was there. Since he has been with Roach he has won multiple National Championships and other accomplishments. To name a few: 2009 National Silver Gloves, 2009 National Pal (Outstanding Fighter), 2010 National Under 19 Championship (Outstanding Fighter), Ringside World Championships 2007, 2008, & 2009 years in a row, JO silver medalist, Junior Youth World quaterfinalist. Before Roach Zero (0) Championships. You can give the credit to whom you want but the results speak for themself. He is a NoXcuse fighter and his style represents his coach....and thats Roach.
Man forget that other stuff..How can I see that knockout?????
yeah how we git ti cee the knockout?
If he is such a good coach and McCann did nothing for him, why do you continue to tell everyone over and over. If he is that good, we would all know. Is McCann still the Hillcrest coach or did he retire? Either way, grow up and give credit where it is due. Several people have said that the kid is good and was taught by a verteran McCann. You sound so jealous of what McCann has showed this kid Ballard. No one is saying that you are doing a bad job, in fact, they all seem to think you are doing just fine. All they are saying is that McCann taught the kid mostly everything he knows. Let it be, relax my friend, it's ok. People have different opionins and right now they all seem to think McCann groomed this kid from the beginning. Chill out, it's not the end of the world. If you have problems with this type of stuff, I suggest you get a kid that has never boxed before and turn him into something and the you will not hear such things from others.
Looks like someone is full of excuses> name does not fit your foolish behavior. You sound like a spoiled brat.
Time for yall to let go of that oldhead stuff. none of these oldhead coaches embrace the new and that's why kids leave 'em. I've never seen any of these old coaches out of town at tournaments. Boxing does leave the beltway fellas. Someone will post the KO soon I'm sure. They are selling DVDs at Rosecroft for $15.
Is the dvd clear? Can you see Thomas's head get twisted? Can you hear his father screaming? Is it clearer than a Juice tape? Is anyone selling knock-offs yet?
Coil SNK get some business. This is the 1st comment you've posted about Ballard since he's been boxing.. so what do you know about him. (Nothing) You don't have a clue who taught him what.
Man you can see everything on the dvd... Its a must see!
How can our major amatuer tournaments (the Junior Olympics and USA's) not have its own blog with results????
I agree it should have its own info, what an outrage the lack of coverage!!!!
What gives????
We all have to post here and this was about beth mitchell
If I were you, I would check DCboxing.blogspot.com. That blog covers more of the amateur scene than I do.
I do not have the time to go to EVERY BOXING EVENT in the area. As this is more of a pro-oriented boxing blog, they are first on the list.
I try to cover the major amateur events in the area, but I do not get to every one. If you are so interested, please attend the events yourself and report on them yourself.
I heard Thomas Williams drove back to Cherry Lane after the fight looking for his other headgear..LMFAO
LMFAO
Can somebody post da ballard vs williams fight???
Let me speak on the coaching situation. Boxing is an individual sport. You don't rely on a teammates. You don't rely on set plays to help you win either. Therefore, if a fighter only begins winning when placed with another coach... Personally, that means that fighter ain't shit anyway and ain't working with regardless.
You guys are forgetting it's only so much a trainer can do. In football, the coach can make calls to make or break a game. In boxing, it's on you. That's what I love about boxing. It's an "honest sport". You can't hide behind nobody.
And are you judging the level of competition he was facing before and after he got with the new trainer?? Maybe with the old trainer, he was fighting boxers who went on to become well accomplished. And with the new trainer, he fought dudes who later on went on to forget how to use the bathroom by themselves.
Don't use the coach as an excuse. It's on the fighter. The coach can only do so much.
Whoever posted the last comment may just not understand this sport of boxing. A trainer is extremely valuable in this sports as they shape, teach, condition, motivate and mentor their boxers. I agree that what the boxer possesses skill wise is important as well, but you can dismiss the trainer. If you want to look at good trainers or even coaches in other sports all you have to do is look at their athletes or teams accomplishments. You can be defined as a good trainer if you don't have success with your boxers. As far as Ballard he's facing better and better competition as his career goes on from silver gloves to JOs to open class. That can't be debated. I'm not going to comment on his coaching now or early in his career but speaking in general, all you have to do is look at a trainers boxers and you see their skill level. If you see a boxer overmatched in a bout, the coach took the bout. If you see a boxer who is sloppy and doesn't know the basics, his coach most likely hasn't gotten him to master that yet and he probably isn't ready to compete. Now sure there are instances when boxers don't listen or don't do what we want but over time you see the trainer in his boxer. I've seen enough of Ballard over the past few years to know where the credit belongs. There are a lot of great young boxers in our area, most of whom have been to multiple trainers and coaches. It's hard to understand if you aren't familiar with the local amateur scene how some people can give one coach credit and not others---all who have had a certain boxer. All I can say as look at all of a coaches boxers and you generally see a pattern for better or for worse.
I didn't mean to say a coach isn't important AT ALL but, too much credit and too much criticism is giving. It's only so much a boxing coach can do. It's up to the fighter and how motivated, dedication, and prepared he is. A coach can steer him in the right direction but it's only so much he/she can do.
Lets take being a parent for example. A parent raises a kid up until they are 18 and sends them off to college. It's up to that kid to make something off himself then. His parents can give him pep talks to stay on course, but it's only so much they can do. You have failures who come from successful families because of this
Same with a fighter and trainer. A trainer raises a fighter up until the fight. Sends him off to battle. And then, it's up to the fighter to make something off himself. Now, the trainer can give the fighter pep talks and advice in between rounds, but he can't go in there and fight for him.
A good coach maximize their fighters potential and gets the best out of them win, lose or draw.
We all know the trainer can't fight for him but that advice you speak of between rounds is extremly important and can be the different in a win or lost. In some cases a different in a fighter getting clipped or hurt. It's a different view from the outside and a fighter can use a extra set of eyes. If thats the case a fighter will just have anybody in the corner to pass him the water bottle.
Sending a kid off to college and sending a fighter out for 3 rounds of boxing is very different. 4 years vs 9 minutes.
Criticism and credit comes with job. You will get that in whatever you do. That's life.
I hear that D'mitrius Ballard might be switching to Joe Hensley. Any truth to this?
Not an ounce of truth in that. LOL...
Good Luck to our Gloden Gloves Team down in Little Rock! Post a tread please.
Good job, no GREAT JOB Seth defeating "not-so Lethal" Johnnie White! You are learning the sport well! Stay dedicated and focused and you will be able to contend with anyone! (That jab would be a good tool to keep with you as you trek along on your journey as well)
P.S.
Affter watching your highlights during the fight I see you were a killer on the field as well.
