Beltway Boxers Continue Travels!

Some local boxers will be making trips in the next few weeks. Laurel, MD junior middleweight Norman "The Shadow" Allen (6-3, three KO's) will be at The Arena in Philadelphia, PA on Friday, April 30 for a six-round contest against Philly boxer Ardrick Butler (4-1, one KO). This will be the first scheduled six-rounder for both boxers. Allen has lost his last two and has not fought since dropping a four-round majority decision to William Jackson on September 5 in Cincinnati, OH.

On Thursday, May 6, there is about in Little Rock, AR that even I think is a little strange. Normally, I don't say a lot about prospective bouts but this one..

Arlington, VA cruiserweight Justin Ridgway makes just his second appearance in a pro ring while his opponent is indeed a veteran -- Dumfries, VA's Derek Amos. Frankly, I don't think this says a lot about Arkansas's commission when they allow a boxer who is 1-0 against another who is 15-28, nine KO's. Granted, Amos is well past his prime and has fought a who's who in the cruiser and heavyweight divisions, but this could be a major risk on either side.

Say what you want about the commissions in the Beltway, but I can say with some certainity that Maryland would not allow this bout to take place. I'd like to think that DC and Virginia would feel the same way.

On Saturday, May 22 two Beltway Boxers will appear on a card at the Sovereign Center in Reading, PA. Charlottsville, VA junior middleweight George "War Time" Rivera will challenge York, PA's Keenan Collins in an eight-round contest for the vacant WBF All-Americas Junior Middleweight title.

Rivera (11-5, four KO's) is coming off a 10-round unanimous decision loss to James Stevenson on March 20th at Du Burns Arena in Baltimore. Collins (12-5-2, eight KO's) is winless in his last five bouts, but has fought the likes of Delvin Rodriguez, Jose Angel Rodriguez, Doel Carrasquillo and Clarence Taylor.

Also on the Reading card, undefeated DC heavyweight Maurice "Freight Train" Byarm (6-0, four KO's) is slated to take on Kevin Howard of Montgomery, AL (1-3-1) in a four-round encounter. Ironically, both boxers's last appearance in a ring were in separate bouts on a January 31 card at Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD. Byarm knocked out Maurice Winslow in the first round while Howard lost by fourth-round TKO to Abodurin Akinyanju .

There are cards coming to Baltimore, MD and Lynchburg, VA on Saturday, May 8. We hope to have details soon.

  1. Gary, I totally agree with you. That bout should not be taking place. It makes no sense at all.

  2. Everybody knows whats up.
why is anybody even talking about it.?

  3. I think this is a risky fight and a good test for Ridgeway. Let's see how he does. Va approved a fight with a guy who was 1-3 I think for Amos. He lost a split decision to the guy.

  4. Maurice "Freight Train" Byarm Vs. Seth Michelle somewhere down the line would be crazy for the DMV area.

The only boxing commissions who does a decent job is New York. Damn near impossible to build a record solely based in New York. You surely wouldn't have a fighter who is 1-0 going up against a 15-28 opponent anyway.

  5. Derek is great for boxing,he knows the ropes and plays ball with everybody.Great Guy.
P.S. he really won the bout against the guy 1-3-1

  6. I agree Derek is a great guy and i am very interested to see how Ridgeway handles him. He is ver ring savvy and can frustrate guys. I just watched his fights with Robles. He has good moves and it will be fun to watch. Does Gary know anybody who can give us the results or does he know anyone going to be there?

    ReplyDelete
  7. by the way what has happened to Robles?

  8. Derek is quite capable of hurting Justin badly, especially early on...if he trains a bit. At the same time Derek has taken a lot of punishment himself over the years and I don't think its worth the risk of his health.
Anyone who knows Derek knows he should not be in a ring anymore...period.

  9. This doesn't relate to this post but what happened to the fight between Chop Chop vs Kimbrough?

  10. Asim,

I beg to differ with you. Justin is a very strong and tough kid. I was in the gym with him quite a bit and the kid has real potential. He is a large man at 6'3 and I would say he walks around well over 200lbs. Derek's last fight against Scott Hoosaflook shows he isn't really capable of hurting Justin. Now I am willing to say that Derek's ring experience will make for a very interesting fight. I see Justimg being to quick and able to put constant pressure on him. Think what you might, but don't base you're decison off of purely personal feelings for Justin. I think He will really shock a lot of people in this fight.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Is Ridgeway really still chasing his tail in circles trying to pretend that anyone cares about him? Derek will lay down like he is being paid to do. Good boy.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Hey Ryan,
What personal feelings regarding Justin? I have nothing against Justin. Beating Derek wouldn't be a shock to anyone but should he lose that would be a bad mark on his record. Why not fight a guy with a recent win or two? A 1-3 type guy.
But my main point is this bout makes no sense. Derek is putting his health at risk for what type of money??? No commission should allow Derek to be in the ring.

  13. Are all of you that damn nieve.
These men were in the same gym together working at LA Boxing.
Justin wins a decision just like he's supposed to do. End of story.

PS:it makes no sense at all.It does if you want a win on Ridgeways record.

  14. Justin is one of the best fighters ever. He hits hard has great speed and has over 100 amatuer fights, has two world kickboxing titles. No one seem's to want to fight this kid so it's good that Derek has stepped up. Yes they did work together but they didn't get along in the gym they sparred a few times and Derek got the worse of it. I even saw the belts so hi haters.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Come on Ridgeway
    there you go again.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I wonder if Allen's opponent, Ardrick Butler, is the first undefeated fighter with a 4-1 record.

Had to bust your chops on that one Gary!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Justin was feared at LA Boxing!!! He beat everyone there up. His kicks were amazing and not to mention he is a two time world champ!!! He is also fought in the World Combat League and even challenged Chuck Norris to a kick off while wearing a pair of Wrangler Jeans!!!
Haters beware Justin is here to stay, go Justin beat that Amos.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Excuse the typo I meant to say "has also fought". Damn you Justin even the mention of your name sends chills down my spine!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I saw justin fight his first pro fight he was not that impressive.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Some interesting facts about Justin:

-Ghosts are actually created by justin killing people faster than Death can process them.
-Justin's tears cure cancer. Too bad he has never cried.
    -Justin can slam revolving doors
-Justin doesn't hunt because hunting implies the possibility of failure. he goes killing.
-Giraffes were created when Justin hit a horse with an uppercut.

  21. That is some funny stuff.Justin is living a big dream.Amos will do what he suppose to do.I still dont understand he says Scott Farmer is his trainer but Scott dont train him. They live in two different states.Justin quit lying so much its catching up to you.Just tell the truth u have never fought anybody. If u know boxing u can see that. But good luck anyway Ill be there to see a tough man fight.

  22. Was the post two up from this from the Unknown Comic? Hilarious!

  23. That post is some funny funny Shit.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Is it possible to ban Kohut from this site, Gary?

    ReplyDelete
  25. its a fixed fight. Amos is supposed to take a dive in the 3rd round from a body shot. but they may change this now that this is posted. justin is a coward for doing this and should not be able to live with himself. Ive lost all respect for amos too.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Amos was not going to take a dive! That is a complete crock of crap. I would never fix a fight and whoever thinks I would need to fix a fight against Derek is crazy. I would stop Derek any round in any round I wanted. He is a good guy, but he couldn't beat me period! End of story. If you're going to post such lies at least out your name on it sweetheart!

  27. justin is a fraud how come now the fight is off? that always happens with you. seems to me that you never truely deliver? you fake poser.ttp://www.deepsouthboxing.com/

  28. word on the street is that ridgway is a coke-head that was fired from la boxing. i saw a comment up higher that states that everyone was scared of him @ la boxing. lol. thats really funny. a tough guy surrounded by soccer moms. if he was real hard he would be fighting out of the more competitive gyms in dc. google this loser and all youll find is a losing mma record where he was submitted!! ok then why give up after that?

    ReplyDelete
  29. anybody can purchase fictitious belts online then hang them up in a room!! lol.

    ReplyDelete
  30. The fake is the guy who post without identifying himself! Coke head huh? Gary, you need to regulate this type of slander.

    ReplyDelete
  31. http://tinyurl.com/5msz5l

can't take the heat huh? yeah you better go tattle-tell to gary.

according to boxrec this guy has a UD over a guy that is 0-5. maybe a someone that takes dives?? lol. 0-1 mma record, but a world champion kickboxer. you would think there would be something somewhere online that validates the claim, such as the sanctioning body. lol!!! title.com sales fake-me-out belts!! we all could be world champions now!!! haha. why go to arkansas to fight?? oh yeah dc metro wont ok the fight b/c its shady.

anonymous and proud. dont need a loser coke head stalker!!! real is real and fake is fake. if you are bothered by these comments then it must be true.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You all need to back off of Justin. If he is a fake why will no one step up to fight him. I think it's strange how everyone gangs up on him this blog. I challange anyone in his weight class to make a fight, if not everyone shut it up.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Seems like the only skills, offensive or defensive, he has shown are the ones he uses to defend himself on the internet, lol. Maybe spend more time training and less monitoring how you come off on the web? But I guess you don't really need to worry about things like training and defending yourself when your fights are fixed, or never end up happening at all.

    ReplyDelete
  34. First of all Justin is not even living here any longer. He has moved, and that is why the fight was going to be there. Arkansas is about a four hour drive for him. Now as far as the fight being fixed...... Yeah right! He wouldn't need to fix a fight with Derek Amos. Please provide facts for your slander! You're accusing a pro fighter of fixing fights, having a substance abuse problem, and more ridiculous things. You don't have a single fact and you're talking out of your butt. Make jokes about L.A. Boxing all you want, but go into Reston tell Joppy he is a wannabe tough guy surrounded by soccer moms!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Personally, I'm glad the bout is not coming off. It didn't make sense to me in the first place. I've gotten to know Justin for a little bit and I've known Derek since the very start of his career. The bout was not going to help either one of them. The bout made no sense whatsoever.

    ReplyDelete
  36. how can you provide facts about a fight that isn't gonna happen anyway? or maybe that's all the evidence we need, considering it was called off right about the same time word got out about the fight being shady....

    ReplyDelete
  37. How can we verify anythin you say, when you're notan enough to put your name on your post?

    ReplyDelete
  38. "The fake is the guy who post without identifying himself! "

This from a guy who only identified himself as "a wise man".... Hypocrisy, look it up.

Oh, and there's a big difference - people aren't taking so much time and paying good money to read these posts, but they do both to go see professional boxing. So they should expect, and get to see honest competition, not more dive-taking than the swimming pool.

If there's any truth to what's being said here, situations like this damage the sport as a whole, and everyone involved in fixing the fight is disgracing the sport.

  39. justin ridgway is a fraud.

  40. first of all if what you wer saying is true why would she mary a white guy? Ridgeway is white, so that doesn't make sense. Also if she was stripping I highly doubt he beat his wife or ever faced charges for such an offense. I know Ridgeway very well, since I worked with him at LA Boxing for almost a year before he moved. he is a good guy who took care of his wife and daughter.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I met his wife at his debut and she was a very sweet girl, she has a degree in culinary arts and is actually a executive chef. you are a pretty sad and pathetic excuse of a man for writing stuff like that about his family regardless if it is true or not. It just so happens I know nothing that was put on here about her or him is true.

    ReplyDelete
  42. this conversation is hilarious.

those world championship kickboxing belts are sanctioned by which global organization? you failed to respond earlier. they must be fake.

why was the fight with derek amos called off?

why quit an mma career after being submitted?

why make a boxing debut with a fighter that is 0-4?

why is there aboslutely no justification to be found about about a world champion kickboxer? a two time world champion kick boxer...

  43. rome rome rome...... when will you stop??????

  44. youre a stupid ass justin. your life is a lie and you know it. fight fixer
now go and cry about how fake you are

    ReplyDelete
  45. damn justin, i guess things didnt go as planned huh.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Why isnt the fight happening

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yes I agree this is a odd. We have a situation here where a fight was apparently called off amid speculation about it being fixed and other foul play, and on this blog we have the fairly unique position of having one of the fighters posting here (rather obsessively I might add), but the problem is that he has addressed everything BUT the main issue, and that is, again:

WHY WAS THE FIGHT CALLED OFF?

Let's hear his side of the story.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Justin is the milli vanilli of the fight game

    ReplyDelete
  49. The fight was called off over disagreements with the promoter on paying the cost of travel. I sold tickets for the fight and my Step Dad's company did a sponsoship, and I wouldn't turn my ticket money in until I had confirmation of Derek's flight. I would not take a dive against anyone, so that whole scenario is ridiculous. I would beat Derek no matter what. I would never fix any fight. I find it amusing that someone would even let the thought cross their mind.

    ReplyDelete
  50. So let me get this straight - the story is that the fight is off because Amos didn't have a ride? HAHAHAHA! That excuse might work for a kid missing soccer practice, but c'mon, we're talking about grown men who are professional fighters.

I'm sorry but there must be a better explanation than that. This whole situation reeks of foul play.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I heard Mayweather-Mosley might be cancelled tonight because Floyd can't find a ride to the arena. hahaha!

and as long as we're talking about the word on the street about this guy, let's not forget the questionable claims about his Army experience and his rank in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. And why was he using the alias 'Sebastian' for awhile, then switched to Justin.

Not cool to pretend to be something you're not. Notice a trend here?

it's almost hard to blame him because it seems like there's a pattern here and maybe he cant help it, like therapy or something is in order.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Obviusly he can't drive if it is in little rock and Derek lives in dc. Thats like a three day drive. I understand ridgeway.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Ridgeway must have been taking the dive cus Amos couldnt beat anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Is this fact or mere speculation? Those are pretty harsh accusations- I really hope you can back that up with more than just the word on the street. Sometimes the streets DO lie.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Justin RidgwayTuesday, May 04, 2010

Hmm....... I've never touched cocaine or any other drug, and I also can assure my wife never cheated on me. She didn't ever get beat by me, and we lost my son because of something that had to do with the baby being over active. Your comments don't bother me since there is no validity behind your out right lies. If you can prove any of this why don't you sign your name? You're a coward who likes to post lies!!!! Obviously I'm more of a man then you since i'll post my name and you won't.

  56. justin everybody is scared of u Ill fight u how much d u weigh. And I also got a car

    ReplyDelete
  57. Any postive comment about Justin on this blog is being made by Justin. Don't be fooled. All he does is go on the sites and talk about who and when he's fighting but never fights. Someone please find some record of 100 amateur fights or kickboxing "world titles" it doesn't exist.. He's not a fighter never mind a good fighter. he had 1 fight and it was against a guy 0-8 who was stopped twice. He's living a lie.
