When undefeated DC lightweight Anthony Peterson travels to Texas on the weekend of March 12, it could prove to be a very big weekend. ESPN.com's Dan Rafael is reporting that Peterson (29-0, 19 KO's) will make his return to action on Friday, March 12 in Grapevine, TX in a 10-round bout against Juan Ramon Cruz of Puerto Rico (16-7-1, 12 KO's). Peterson has only fought once since injuring his knee in August of 2008, winning a 10-round unanimous decision against Luis Antonio Arceo on August 15, 2009.
Should Peterson win on March 12, he may travel to the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, TX the next evening to witness the matchup between Humberto Soto and David Diaz for the vacant WBC Lightweight title -- that's the co-feature on the Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey card. Top Rank representative Carl Moretti told ESPN.com that a Peterson victory on the 12th would make him the mandatory challenger for the winner of Soto-Diaz, possibly in June.
In an interesting bit of irony, Edwin Valero vacated the WBC Lightweight title for a possible bout against Peterson's brother, Lamont.

Not really interested in this fight simply because this is a fight he is supposed to win. Just look at who his opponent is.
But I WANT him to win simply because as mandatory challenger of the Soto-Diaz, he will be forced to step up and we will see if he can handle the pressure or if he will fold just as his brother did. Hopefully he isnt just another fighter with a gassed up record.
I'm interested in this Fight, as should the entire DC & B-more Area should cheer AP on! Just cause this is a Fight that AP pose to win, he still have to go in that ring & perform well! As to Lamont Perterson, I dont think he folded, he just wasn't the Better Fighter that night. Tim Bradley is a Great Fighter that just out classed LP that night, but LP will bounce back! Peterson Brothers, Barry & the entire Head-Bangers keep doing you'll thing!

As someone who I guess follows boxing you have to admit, there have been alot of prospecs who win step up lose and then are delegated as "opponents" for the rest of their careers. And many of them started off with records such as 26-0 or 25-0. I just hope him and his brother aren't going to be that way.
And we will see if Lamont is a contender or an opponent as he fights Valero next.
Lamont next Fight gonna be tough, but will manage! He have his work cut out for him!

Any news on the actual FIGHT CARD for Babie Promotions April 2nd. Can't seem to find it online at all.
I agree with upton boxing, the entire area should be excited for this fight. Come on people when are we going to start supporting our area boxer's. Lamont has a chance to right the ship in june, why are we so hard on him for one lost, he stayed in thier the entire fight and showed he was a man, folding would have been to give up and quit. I think he has shown the heart of a champion, and will be successful in his next attempt.
I love local area boxers, but it doesn't mean you have to jockride them simply because they ARE, local area boxers. If he folded, he folded. He lost. Best of luck to them but like I said before, many fighters have gained a 26-0 record and have proven to be overrated. It's honestly becoming all too common boxing today (2005-). I hope the best for them because they ARE from the DMV but gassed up records just don't excite me until they win a legitimate title.
