Guerrero Stops Nicklow in Fourth Round!

Starting with a solid right hook in the fourth round, Salisbury, MD's undefeated prospect Fernando Guerrero went on to defeat Baltimore, MD's Jessie "The Beast" Nicklow by TKO at the Grand Casino in Hinkley, MN in front of a nationally televised Showtime (ShoBox) audience.

Nicklow got off to a good start, throwing good power shots in the first round, but as the bout wore on, Guerrero began to take control of the contest, eventually wearing down Nicklow and leading to the knockdown in the fourth. Nicklow fought back bravely but eventually referee Mark Nelson waved the bout off at 2:09 of the round.

Guerrero remains undefeated at 17-0, 14 KO's while Nicklow falls to 19-2-2, seven KO's.

BATB talked to Minnesotaboxing.com's Jesse Kelley, who was ringside at tonight's card.

On quitting his construction job for this fight: "I was told that if I want to work there, I can’t fight tonight. So I said, 'I’ll finish the day, and that's it."

That performance was a joke, even for a glorified club fighter like Jessie.

If he's lucky, he'll find another construction job and go back to digging ditches - where he belongs.

Jesse is a legend in his own mind. If he had better competition earlier in his career he would be better today. Steel sharpens steel. Sometimes the line between having heart and being foolish gets blurred. He should have stayed with Dave Sewell as a trainer.

Anonymous said...

Yeah he should have, he did a lot of dumb stuff. I knew he was gonna show alot of heart but I also knew he was gonna get stopped.

Great job on both Fighters showing alot of HEART, I just thought that Fernando was the Bigger & Stronger Fighter, I think Jessie should Fight at 154, I believe he would do better at that weight! Fernando ate alot of Jeesie Punches & a fighter like Fernando u have to have POWER & SKILL to slow him down cause he have the DOGG in Him! GREAT JOB TO FERNANDO, BARRY & THE ENTIRE HEADBANGER CAMP! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

Team Guerrero turned down Matt Vanda as an opponent here (this fight was in MN - Vanda's hometown). Time for Guerrero to fight someone who can fight back and handle a few punches. Vanda would have given Guerrero a real gut check. Oh well, bring on another stiff for FG.

Lotta heart Jesse, you brought it, he was just a little bit stronger.
Keep your head up.

I think Fernando was too big and skilled. He shouldn't have agreed to that weight.

Fernando was just to big for Jesse. Jesse put in a gallant effort
To all the people that have negative comments about Jesse's ability and heart. How many of you have fought on Showtime or any other network? or even put on the gloves at all?

Jesse did a lot right but he was in against a bigger guy who has been afforded luxuries Jesse is not. I thought early on in the fight Jesse showed good head movement and the ablitity to get to Fernando but he couldn't hurt Fernando and was expending alot of energy to get to him. Jesse will be fine he is a good fighter and does have heart. To say he was getting exposed for four rounds is inaccurate he was putting on a good showing early but there was no way he could sustain that pace throughout ten rounds after such a long layoff and at the wrong weight. He did show heart, when Fernando had him hurt he was still in there banging even when it was apparent he couldn't protect himself. Lets not forget Jesse is 22 and has a lot of boxing ahead of him. I hope he gets back busy in 2010 and focuses on getting with the right team that will help propel his career not line their pockets. I predict a much busier 2010 for Jesse and 2011 he will have a good promoter behind him. Then fuck construction boxing can truly be his career.

Best of luck to Jesse and Fernando I hope both do well.

Good will always overcome evil. Fernando is sincere, honest, true to Hal who got him there. Jessie forgot about the person who made him. He should have been loyal.
It's over Jessie! Do your little MMA bullshit, wrestle around with another guy in his panties. I told you what the future would be if you left the ones who looked out for you.

advice for jessie get a good manager
and try winning with skill not getting lucky. good luck

Anonymous said...

How do u win by getting lucky?Explain pls.

Anonymous said...

I think the size was the difference, as simple as that...

Jessie should go to jr middle. He's a small guy. Fernando looks more like a super middle.

how do u win by getting lucky? well asshole you close your eyes throw a bomb and hope your opponent walks into it.that was only shot jesse had that much was clear early on he is to small for fernando

jessie can fight for a warm up.

jessie was talking about fighting
julious kennedy, earlyer this year.
why not try him for a come back?

I believe that was just an assesment given by Old Skool. Nothing wrong with assessing what was observed. I feel the same way Old Skool does. As far as addressing haters go Old Skool you wasting your breath. Haters are the lowest form of life and will rear their heads as soon as the oppurtunity presents itself. Any time you offer encouragement they will be there to discourage. They all need Jesus.

What a fight Jesse. You got your ass handed to you, you stupid son of a bitch. You and your ugly girl friend looked like some shite out there. Kisner looked like he was drunk. same shit will happen to Dannys son as well. You have been fighting to many tomato cans and now this just go's to show you that you aren;t as tuff as you think. Find a real manager asshole.

Anonymous said...

Jesse, go back and beg for your job and just train for a work out. Fernando can fight for sure but he made you look bad. Fernando you don't have to travel to dc to be with the Headbangers because you are the same fighter before you hooked up with those getto guys. Barry Hunter should not even be next to you. Andrew Council is a good coach though. Patrick as well. If them too branched out and did there own thing the ski is the limit.

Anonymous said...

nothing wrong w/criticism but to attack that man's friends is uncalled for. Jessie probably shouldn't have taken this fight with his layoff at this weight. As far as Kisner goes he is one of the most accomplished trainers in the area. Just was not his fighters night. A confident busy Jessie like before Rivera part 1 would have put up a much better fight.

yea it realy brings the bitch out.
lol

DK, You should take the blame for this one.You been around the game for a long time and you should have strongly suggested to Jesse that he was not ready. Money is not everything. This man is still young and if he just kept winning he still could have gotten a bigger payday down the line. Now he go's on national TV and gets his ass wiped out and probably now set himself up to be a opponent now.Get your shit together the next time out because you will be doing ballroom boxing for a long time now. Jesse find a better gym with the work you need and you may want to think about a manager. Fernando good job. The sky is the limit. Stay on course and stay humble. Jesse you may want to go back to Jake because you all are a good fit. He gets you fights that you can beat. A bunch of have dead fighters.

Thanks for the You Tube links. Just watched the fight and Fernando was just too big for Nicklow. I've seen Jesse numerous times and the 8 to 10 extra pounds in this fight made a huge difference. Fernando was a super middleweight who was fighting a small junior middleweight. The stoppage in my mind was also questionable. Sure Fernando was beating him up but Jesse had his hands high and blocked many of those shots. Too bad Steve Smoger wasn't the ref, he would have let it go. I think Jesse would have gotten in a shot to at least wobble an arm weary Fernando if that fight goes on for a little longer. I don't think it would have changed the outcome of the fight, Fernando still would have won, but you never know. Guerrero's skill level is nothing special but he is very tough and his conditioning is up there with anybody's. He will make for exciting fights as long as he is matched accordingly. Put him in with a boxer/puncher who gives him angles and movement and I see Fernando chasing and missing a lot in a fight like that. Even Nicklow, with a little bit of movement, threw Fernando off a little. But where Jesse messed up was when he held his hands up he took his eyes off Guerrero and let him swing away. Jesse never saw any of those punches Fernando was throwing. He blocked most of them with his gloves but even those types of shots have a damaging effect. Jesse is not bad, but he's nothing special. Fernando is good, let's see if he can keep improving and keep winning. If I were with him, I wouldn't rush him too much. I would say he's still a good three years away from being an elite fighter.

YOU MORON! He didn't fight Vanda because then he would risk getting robbed. Vanda has a big following in MN and is tough to knockout. Do you really think Fernando would have turned down Vanda as an opponent if they fought on neutral territory or in Salisbury? cmon

You guys keep saying Jesse is dumb for taking this fight but you have to realize he was 19-1-2, wasn't all that good and wanted to get paid. How much could have he got paid staying in the Beltway fighting off TV forever? He made the right choice by fighting Fernando.

To "my "Hater" or "haters" I have forgotten more about boxing than you will ever know.If you have that much of a problem with me, I'm at Club One swinging on someones balls. Come on down.

Baltimore Boxing(jake)has given all those fighters there start, but at some point(unless you have already signed with a big promoter or manager)you have fight outside the local club scene to make any money. Jake's shows are very important to all the local fighters getting a chance to show there talents. Hats off to Baltimore Boxing.

Anonymous said...

I'll tell you right now, I bet you Jake didn't make a dime off Paschall or Nicklow when they fought on Showtime and if you go back and look at their records of their 20 or so fights a piece, they fought on Jake's shows 15 times. And Jake didn't make a fucking dime off of them when they made good paydays.
