Digital,

Congratulations on this great honor! I am sorry I could not attend personally because I am sure your acceptance speech was one for the ages! Thank you for your true love and dedication to the sport of boxing!

I want to congratulate Gary "Digital" Williams, Jerome Spears, Andrew Council, Isra Gigrah and the entire class inducted into the D.C. Boxing Hall of Fame. I worked for years with the "Fight Doctor" and Vincent Pettway on Boxing Spotlight shows, as well as with Digital. They are first-rate gentlemen and professionals and full of knowledge and a marathoners' passion for the game. This is no cliche - this is fact. Andrew Council was a phenomenal technician and warrior. With all due respect to Keith Holmes, I thought Council beat him in their thrilling go at Showplace Arena. I was an admirer early on, having watched most of his beginning bouts, and knew he was the goods when he overcame tough Timmy Knight in one of those crazy old Alexandria shows and then heard he'd also beat Patrick Cann up in AC. These opponents aren't remembered anymore, but every hardcore boxing fan back then knew they were good prospects in their own right, technically sound, athletic pros. Fighting Patrick Cann was no picnic. I'm pretty sure I wrote the "New Faces" story on Andrew for The RING, but it's getting a little hazy. I was ringside when Council climbed in and beat Buddy McGirt, which left the D.C. contingent in the house delirious and right there gets anyone into a regional Hall of Fame. This thrust him into the upper echelon of contenders. Only the best beat Andrew, and he fought very bravely in the match against Bernard Hopkins. He was as sound a fighter as I can recall seeing, and there is not a single "KO by" on his record at the begining or the end. And to think it all started against "Himbad" Duncan!
My best to the entire class.
