Undefeated, Top-Ranked Heavyweight Povetkin Added to October 16 Du Burns Card!

Now it can be told. The Friday, October 16 Baltimore Pro Boxing card at Du Burns Arena in Baltimore receives a nice boost because IBF #1 ranked heavyweight Alexander Povetkin has been added to the card.

The undefeated Russian (17-0, 12 KO's) will battle "Dangerous" Damon Reed of Topeka, KS (44-13, 31 KO's) in a scheduled 10-round contest.

Povetkin, who won the gold medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece, is trained by Teddy Atlas, who will be ringside for Povetkin's first pro bout in the United States.

Sounds like fighter needs a tuneup Teddy makes some calls gets his man on Jakes card. I will bet Jakes not paying him. He could never afford a #1 contender to fight on his card. No offense to the promotion, but Povetkin is in line for at least a 6 figure payday. Great addition to the card.
looking forward to attending.

Teddy Atlas is a hypocrite. He rails against commissions on tv for approving mismatches and then with a weeks notice trys to put his guy in against a shot fighter who is 35 pounds smaller than Povetkin. How is this fight getting approved? Tune up is one thing, however put a true heavyweight in the ring. Damon is dangerous to himself, Monte Barrett blew him out and his last fight was against a 44 yearold blown up middlewight who hasnt won a fight in 10 years the infamous Buck Smith. This isn't a good one, this is in Teddy's words dangerous. Teddy is all for boxer safety unless it benefits his fighter his pocket.

Nice comment on Teddy Atlas. I agree with you 100%!

These are some very interesting perspectives on Teddy Atlas and his attitude towards the fight game
and those in the sport.
I would agree with the prior statements but remember almost everybody looks at things the way it benefits themselves. Atlas can be on TV and say whatever he wants and 90% of the people watching don't know enough about the game to know wether he's being Hypocritical or not.

I do agree with your statement. But all boxers are built with mismatches. Teddy is a little conceited though. I was just trying to see the guy box.
