Rivers's World Championship Bid Ends in Milan!

Landover, MD featherweight Kevin Rivers has been eliminated from competition at the Amateur World Championships in Milan, Italy.

Rivers lost a 13-1 decision to Sergey Vodopyanov of Russia in the third round today in a matchup that tournament observers believed had the potential to be the bout of the day. Vodopyanov, however, has been dominant thus far in the tourney, winning by scores of 22-4 and 21-5 in earlier bouts.

Congratulations to Rivers for representing the Beltway -- and the United States -- well!

Vodopynanov was the 2007 World Amateur Boxing Championships‎ Gold Medalist defeating Gary Russell Jr. en route to that title. He also was eliminated on a tie breaker in the round of 16 in the 2009 Olympics. Good showing by Kevin as one of the last two American's left in this years World Tourney. . .

Good outing Kevin Rivers! You went the distance with the guy who stopped Gary Russell. Keep your head up, you are my hero and always have been. Remember the good humor truck on Allentown Rd.
LMAO

Vodopynanov never stopped Lil Gray. He won but there was no stoppage. Gray did drop him in the last round.
