WBOC-TV (Salisbury, MD) Sports Anchor Scott Abraham is reporting that undefeated middleweight Fernando Guerrero will compete for the vacant NABO Middleweight title in October in Salisbury. The bout will be Guerrero's first title opportunity. No word yet on who Guerrero's opponent will be.
One interesting aspect of this story is where the bout is slated to be held. Plans are to have the bout outdoors at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium, the home of the Delmarva Shorebirds minor league baseball team. The stadium seats 8,000 people, more than the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center where Guerrero's previous hometown bouts have been held.
Organizers of the card are looking at Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10 as possible dates.

Man, you have a serious grammar problem. How is Hal a fake? This is his first real pupil he is going through the ranks with. Lamont and Fernando are being brought along by the same southern promoter. The competition level has been about the same. Whoever that southern promoter is, they can really bring young fighters along. Look at the Peterson brothers, Ty Barnett, Guerrero, Wade.....all those DC boys have undefeated records and fight often.

I don't think Hal Chernoff is a promoter. Also, I don't think Salisbury is getting ripped off. They are paying to watch an exciting young fighter who gives back to the community. Ossie Duran won at least 4 out of 10 rounds from James Kirkland a few years ago and has never been KO'd in his life. He will be a good test for Guerrero at this stage in his career. You honestly think at this stage in his career we should be talking Pavlik, Wright, PWilliams, etc..... That's crazy! Quit hating!
Guerrero is a kid who hasn't even been a pro for 2 years. He's moving along quite quickly IMO. Duran is a solid test and should make for a good solid fight. The guy that was talking about all of those names has NO idea what pro boxing is about. Fernando's name may be in that mix in the next 18 months, but until then he's got to keep fighting and keep winning. Remember this is the pros and not the amateurs. You can pick who you fight.
