Paschall Loses Unanimous Decision in Reno!

Mike "The Persecutor" Paschall lost a 10-round unanimous decision to Jesse Brinkley last night at the Reno Events Center in Reno, NV. Two judges scored the bout 97-93 while one judge had it 96-94.

It was the first time that Paschall has gone a full 10-round distance. Paschall said this to Jim Krajewski of the Reno Gazette-Journal:

"I just wanted to stay in there and show him I could fight him. I just could have been more busy (with my punches)," he said. "I think there was a lot of things I didn't do because I was really thinking, 'Could I go 10 rounds with this guy?' And there were a lot of opportunities I didn't take. But it's a learning experience and next time I know, either do or don't.

"He's a veteran. He knew what he was doing. I'll take it as a learning experience. I feel like I did OK. I definitely could have done better, but I can't doing anything about it now."

"I think I definitely won a few more fans."

Paschall is now 19-2-1, four KO's. Brinkley is now 34-5, 22 KO's.

Paschall sent this in a text message to BATB: "I fought him like a dog. I've never been hit that hard in my life, but it was close."

  2. At 20 fights Mike should have been better prepared. Sounds like he had doubts in his own mind.

  3. Maybe he had some doubts at first.I think going 10 rounds with a contender will increase his confidence leveland he should improve off of this performance. Judging by the scorecards he did well.

  10. Let me set the record straight I was at the fight Mike Paschal got Robbed. He was ahead going into the last round by atleast a 5-3-1 margin ,Brinkley neede a knockout to win and Brinkley won the last round, but he did not WIN THAT FIGHT. Sorry Mike you got robbed big time.

  12. JD. you must have a promotional tie in some way because you don't give props to anybody otherwise.

  13. yo jd how can a fight you scored 5-4-1 be a robbery. that makes no sense. that sounds like a close fight that could go either way. people in boxing are so quick to scream that somebody got robbed.

    A couple of thoughts-

Mike fought extremely well and it was avery close fight. It was his first ten round fight and he said afterwards that he was thinking about that and tha it probably caused him to be mmore cautious in the early going.
That being said, he did lose the fight, but in a way that was more impressive to me, than his hanging tough in the andre Dirrell fight, was the fact that he was in this fight, showed his heart and his skill and came close to beating a high quality, ranked opponent in his home town. I asked Brinkley whether he would ever consider coming to Baltimore and fighting a rematch on Mike's home turf, and he said no wayy. and furthermore he said no way would he fight Paschall again.
There has always been a situationn in this area where the quality fighters stay at home and do not necessarily venture out into this sort of fight. They may go out as Mike did with Dirrell and get paid to be an opponent. But rarely do they get the opportunity to be in this type of fight. If they are ticket sellers, like Mike or several other fighters, it is easy for them to fight regularly, earn decent money for being ticket sellers, and not venture out. Mike proved that the best here can compete anywhere, if the situations are picked right (and that would be the same as for anyone area fighter). The other thing that continues to impress me about Mike is that he wants more> He knows now that he can compete at the top level. The trick is going to be matching the right fights. He is good enough to earn a solid ranking, and as he wins (whether locally or out of town) those wins can move him further up.
He can have a very good future and at 19-2, he can fight almost anyone.

ps. the show was co-promoted by Lets Get It On and TKO Boxing. As the CEO of TKo and the matchmaker for Lets Get It On, I made the fight. And in two weeks the show will start airing across the country and, as they say, check your local listings!

  16. alright look. mike is 30 or something like that right. and age isnt that big a thing but he been around a long time and he isn't going to get too many chances. mike if you listening and i know you are get your training straight. you seem to be on weight off weight overweight and then losing. you got to grab this shit by the nuts and more than ever now if you want to be a champ. this no offense homeboy this advice from experience. you got good skill, it obvious, can you stay away from the bullshit, drug scene not that you doing it, steroid shit that i sure people around you push, and everything else and dedicate yourself to working like a dog to be da champ. put your mind to it. alright.

  17. why r people on here talking about he only has 20 fight's. If he want't to be a champ it doesn't matter where u figth or who u fight, and that's BS using that excuse that this is his first ten rounder. Champ's from the area were fighting tougher competition before they had 20 fight's. Look at Mark Johnson he fought highly experienced fighter's in their own backyard when he had ten fight's. If u can fight u can fight, beside's Brinkley is a bum.

    ReplyDelete
  18. All of that is true. Brinkley is a bum he will never be a world champion. If u can fight u can fight. Just shows you that the term great can be overused. Brinkley and Paschall are good, solid pros. 2 Sharp, Sugar Ray are GREAT fighters. Joppy, Holmes, Sharmba are very good fighters. Guys like Paschalle, Nicklow, Lang, Rivera, Brinkley, they are all club level guys who can fight a little and have people behind them a little. But like you said if u can fight u can fight. If you cant your screwed.

  19. thats why you have a,b,and c
    level fighters some make it
    and some don't

  20. THE LAST TWO OR THREE COMMENTS MAKE ME LAUGH I GUESS NO ONE FROM MARYLAND CAN FIGHT IF YOU THINK PASCHALL CANT FIGHT BECAUSE MIKE IS THE BEST OUT OF EVERYONE IN MARYLAND

    ReplyDelete
  21. The best boxer's in Maryland are Fernando, and Domonique Wade, both will be future champs. They both had great amatuer career's, and are rising fast in thier division. Both are better than Mike or Brinkley

  22. You know something? Mike is pretty good. Hes not Sugar Ray, but who is?
