ReplyDeleteIs the funeral is also at TCSDA church?
ReplyDeleteGary,
ReplyDeleteCan you tell us a little a bit about the Doc. I have never heard of him.
Yes, the funeral is also at the church.
ReplyDeletePlease read my story dated July 6 for further information on Dr. Hammonds.
Hey Gary not to take anything away from Dr Hammonds passing, may he rest in peace, but what about some respect for one of great warriors of our generation Arturo Gatti???
ReplyDeleteWe plan to talk more about Gatti in our BATB Wrap-Up from Westminister Friday night.
ReplyDeleteI remember Dr. Hammond giving the physicals before the amateur fights in the 90's. I can see him sitting ringside at the old Hilcrest Gym during the Golden Gloves...
ReplyDeleteDr. Karl Hammonds was a kind and caring guy who was dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of our youth through sports, and especially through boxing. He always had a smile on his face, and was always willing to offer a helping medical hand. Dr. Hammonds certainly will be missed.
ReplyDeleteOpen letter to the DMV Boxing Community:
ReplyDeleteIt is with great displeasure, I must report that not many people attended the wake services of Dr. Karl Hammonds last night. If anyone ever had a boxing show, you know important it is to have a good ringside doctor. He was the ringside physician for well over 20 years in the community. He has performed ringside physicals of Chop-Chop Corley, Keith Holmes, Mark "Too Sharp" Johnson, Sharmba Mitchell, William Joppy, Darryl Lattimore, Curtis Peoples, Jamal Hinton, Anthony and Lamont Peterson, and Gary Russell, Jr. as amateurs just to name a few. Dr. Hammonds did countless free shows for the local boxing community. When his health took a turn for the worst, he still supported the local amateur boxing program. He was more that just a dr. he would check on our athletes if they were injured during an event. He even did house calls and provided free service to some of our members who didn't even have insurance. It is disgraceful how folks did not come our to honor this man and show his family the support they deserved. This is the same family who supported him in his decision to be at all of the boxing shows. As they eulogized him of his commitment, and unselfish devotion to support our amateur program and kids as a testament of his character. The lack of support from the community in which Dr. Hammonds unselfishly supported speaks volumes of how shameful this boxing community should feel. Simply shameful. We need to show more support than was shown for Dr. Hammonds.
