'Smooth' Ridgway Heads to Atlantic City and ESPN May 15!

After just one bout, Arlington, VA light heavyweight Justin "Too Smooth" Ridgway will make his national television debut on Friday, May 15 when he opens up ESPN2's Friday Night Fights telecast from Harrah's Marina Hotel Casino in Atlantic City, NJ.

Ridgway (1-0) will take on Joe Njau of Perth Amboy, NJ by way of Nigeria (0-3) in a four-round bout. Ridgway made his pro debut against Calvin Aughtrey and won a four-round unanimous decision on March 14 in Winchester, VA.

This means that Beltway Boxers will appear on ESPN2 on back-to-back weeks. Jessie Nicklow will take on Erislandy Lara in an eight-round co-feature on May 22 in Miami Beach, FL.

are you sure they are going to televise that fight? I can see that fight being a swing bout encase a knockout occurs, but not to open the televised show.

Not because of the fighter, but just because he is fighting a winless fighter. ESPN usually televises different type bouts.

I have been told it will be on TV. Ridgway is a late replacement for someone else who actually came down with the Swine Flu.

So unless the network makes a last minute change, Ridgway will be on TV.

Ridgeway---haven't I seen that name on this blog before?

On another note... Daquan Love, a boxer from Charm City Boxing won the 119LB, 13/14 Junior Olympics Chamionship on Saturday at Rosecroft Raceway.

way to go Ridgway!!!! I knew you were something special the first day I saw you in the gym. Keep it real bro and represent the Beltway little homie!

Anonymous said...

Why wouldn't the fight be televised? Ridgeway is a solid up and coming prospect, who is linked up with the right people now. The swing bout is normally a bigger match up that will be fought after the main event. Congratulations to Ridgeway. Scott Farmer ha something special in this boy, and is doing a good job with him!

Gary where did you get this information from.Is Scott working his corner.I think this is a lie.

Anonymous said...

No Scott is not working my corner. I relocated to New Jersey for work, and have linked up with a good management team. I am sorry Joe Hensley, but this is not a lie. Mr. Farmer is a great friend of mine, but logisticlly it won't work with him there and me here! I will hopefully be fighting back in the beltway very soon.

Justin told me this info himself and I've confirmed this with Star Boxing as well.

Justin good luck. I hope you do all of the right things in the gym to make the fight easy. Don't forget you key weapon.... you know what it is.

Justin,

I haven't said a word. I just read about it now. Good luck to you.

Is this a joke.He fights a guy 0-5 and a ESPN fight with a guy 0-3.Who is his promoter.Must have some pull with ESPN.Be good for Joe to let Cujo fight him.Not trying to start nothing, just think Cujo will beat him easy.

Anonymous said...

That last message was from Cujo! Why is everyone upset that we have another fighter who if handled properly will be something? Scott Sigmon and the whole major league boxing team is a joke! I am glad Sigmon and Joe were smart enough to keep him (Ridgeway) from man handling Cujo. He is a very athletic strong young kid who reminds me of Carl Froch.

Gary,

What do you think about this? I didn't get to see his fight in Winchester.

Gary Digital Williams said...

Anytime you get an opportunity to be on television so early in a career, you should take it. Ridgway looked good against Calvin Aughtrey in Winchester. He did what he was supposed to do. I don't know much about Njau, but again it's an opportunity Ridgway had to take.

Guys,

To those of you who are support me thank you, and honestly I am not worried about anyone who has something negative to say. I was given a great chance to put my name in households across the nation, so I took it.

I owe a great deal of credit to Mr. Farmer who has really helped me, and will be there the whole way with me. Mr. Farmer told me "Son, i'm gonna let you know right now, that when you start winning and doing good in this game, everyone will hate you, and run their mouth about you, not because they don't like you or because you can't fight, but simply because they are jealous!"

look at boxrec you guys! it is on there!

Once again, I have checked with the promoters and, as of now, the bout will be televised. That can always be changed.

If you know anything about ESPN's broadcast, they usually show three bouts with the first being a four-rounder. As of right now, Ridgway's bout is the only four round bout on the card. There are, however, two scheduled 10-rounders which, again could change things.

But for right now, I have NOTHING to be ashamed of because, unlike a lot of you, I checked my sources.

Justin Ridgway said...

Thanks for the support Gary! I really hope you can make it there!

Linda "Great Shot" Siadys said...

I support him, and not sure I've met him, but like the way he comes across. Sounds like he has a good opportunity. I hope you do well Justin.

The guy has 1 fight. If he was that good i think Scott Farmer would of held on to him.The boy talks a big game and thats the truth.Justin hope to see you fight on TV for real. Why arent you fighting on Scotts next card.Something else,If you are as good as you think you are why are you taking fights with guys that havent even won a fight.

Anonymous said...

Really Linda?
You like a braggart with no verifiable fights who brings people's wives into arguments on blogs & insults other fighters & promoters?
That's not the kind of person I'd think you'd like.
Read the blogs he wrote. I don't know anything about the guy & have never met him but he sounds like a real asshole. Question is, are you going to try to stand by your last statement, or actually read what this guy has written and take it back? Takes a big person to admit when they're wrong. Like I said, I don't know the guy but after what I've read, I don't want to know the guy. I'm not a fan of braggart assholes, especially when I've googled his name & searched him on every imaginable amateur MMA & boxing resource available & come up with nothing. I think he's just a liar looking for attention.

Linda "Great Shot" Siadys said...

You are right about what he said about Scott's wife who has been a lovely sweet person all 3 times I met her. He really should not ever have brought her into the mix. I also like Scott. And you know I am a steadfast fan of Joe's.

Other than that, I do stand behind Justin. I hope he does well in Jersey.

Justin Ridgway said...

Guys,

I would like you all to know that I had apologized to Gary, Joe, and Scott about my remarks. I am in no way a jerk. He actually got under my skin running his mouth about Tony who is a good friend of mine. Also Cujo had emailed me personally before and of that blog started, and that had ticked me off. As you said it takes a big person to admit when they are wrong, and I was wrong for those comments.

Whatever TP. Why don't you identify yourself using your real name, not some made up initials. I KNOW who you are so why don't you put up your real name for the whole world to see. I have nothing to hide, I always sign my name, and if you read my posts, I haven't put anybody down. Unlike you.

"I've googled his name & searched him on every imaginable amateur MMA & boxing resource available & come up with nothing. I think he's just a liar looking for attention."Well ESPN has him now, so guess you don't have to worry about it anymore.

Anonymous said...

Joe stop crying.

Anonymous said...

Now you're anonymous. Take pot shots at me without signing your name. Just like the coward that you and I both know that you are. And just remember, I know who you are. Sign your name, you're not worried about me and I'm not worried about you, right?

Thanks,

Joe Hensley

An update on this card: BoxingTalk.com is reporting that the main event on this card -- a heavyweight bout between Monte Barrett and Kevin Johnson -- has been scratched. Barrett suffered a bad cut to his eyelid in training.

The card is still on for now, as far as I can tell. There's another 10-rounder slated for the card and an interesting eight-rounder between Devin Vargas and former WBA champ Bruce Seldon.

If the card holds up, it could easily pave the way for Ridgway to be on TV.

I have actually had the pleasure of working with Justin in his corner for his pro debut and he is definitely a stand up guy and I would love to work with him again as he is very humble and appreciates any advice you throw at him. He is definitely a natural talent with a lot of power and it will carry him as far as he wants to take it in this sport. Justin, the haters hate because it is their job. Your job is to keep giving them a reason. Do your thing out there because remember what I told you from the get go, whether in the corner or in the stands, I support you 100% and I will be watching. Gary, great site man, keep it up.

Well, if I'm reading that right, Jesse Nicklow pulled out of the fight with the Cuban. Good for Jesse and good for Dave Sewell! That was a bad, bad fight for Jesse. I bet you somebody tried to pull and fast one and Jesse and Dave. They probably didn't know the guy had such a big amateur background. Some matchmaker called them up and probably said do you want to fight on ESPN2 in an 8 rounder for $7,500 against a guy 4 and 0 and they excitedly said, "YES!" But when they found out who the guy was, probably from a second hand source who was trying to help Dave and Jesse, they said, "How do we get out of this?" Jesse and Dave don't exactly strike me as information superhighway guys, know what I'm saying? But the information is there on everybody you fight and I guess it's shame on you if you let a matchmaker pull a fast one on you. I'm glad they are not taking the fight. If Jesse gets a couple of quick wins, he could fight for some real money.

you guys are all fighting about whether or not two bums are gonna fight on espn. The fight never took place nor would espn have televised it unless they needed rounds

This guy "Too Smooth" is a joke! Always has been always will be. He has no respect from anybody in the D.C area or anywhere in Va. just come down here and and throw his name around. See the response you get. I once had a conversation with this guy about taking fights and he said that its a a game to try to take a fight with somebody that can get a "big purse" with the hopes that they don't make weight and you can get some of there money. He will "talk" about taking fights but then will back down when it comes closer to fight time. Trust me I've seen it, I've heard it. I just hope his new promoters know how big of a bull shitter this guy is... If they don't they will. Potential is one one thing when it comes to "making it big". Heart, integrity, and "your word" is another. Looks like one of the promoters has already learned this. Justin is all about the attention and not so much about the results.

Big words from someone who doesn't have the balls to post their name! Go ahead and put your name on it, but wait that would mean you caouldn't hide behind a computer screen. I have never taken a fight and backed out. Anyone who has ever dealt with me will tell you I am always willing to fight whoever. I never have disrespected the anyone in the area. Go ahead and tell me one person I took a fight with and then backed out. It never has and never would happen. As far as you coming on here and trying to bash me, it shows how much of a two faced coward you are by not wanting to put your name on your comments. My two belts were The U.K.F ( universal kickboxing Federation) Super Middleweight and the W.M.C (World Muay Thai Council) Light Heavyweight championship. Not that it really matters what someone who is hiding behind a computer anonymously has to say about me.
