On the third day of competition at the National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions in Salt Lake City, UT, DC Region Boxers had mixed success resulting in four area boxers remaining in the tournament.
DC's Antonio Magruder advanced to the quarterfinals of the 119-pound division with a decision over Shane Tenney of Florida.
Salisbury's Alexis Guerrero also won his second-round bout in the 201-pound class defeating Dustin Powell of Wisconsin.
Also advancing to the quarterfinals were two area boxers who saw their first action last night. Kevin Rivers of DC moved along in the 125-pound division by defeating Canton Miller, Jr. of Missouri. Also, Thomas Williams won his first bout of the tournament by decisioning Lisando Tupete of New Jersey in the 178-pound class.
Four boxers lost second-round bouts yesterday. Erick Cruz lost to Emmanuel Folly of Pennsylvania in the 112-pound division. Todd Dekinderen of the Marine Corps lost in the 132-pound bracket to Raeese Aleem of Michigan. In the 152-pound division, David Grayton fell to Errol Spence of Texas and Jerry Forrest of Virginia lost to Shaun Seymore of Cincinnati, OH in the 201+ division.
