Takoma Park, MD cruiserweight Darnell "The Ding-A-Ling Man" Wilson was eliminated from The Contender in last night's telecast. Wilson lost a five-round unanimous decision to Ehinomen 'Hino' Ehikhamenor during the taping in Singapore.
For the last two weeks of the show, Wilson faced questions about his weight. In week four of the show, Wilson's trainer for the show, John Bray, checked his weight and found out that Wilson was at 210 pounds -- 10 pounds over the cruiserweight limit.
Wilson put on a sauna suit and tried to work off the excess poundage. Wilson was successful -- he did get down to 200 pounds -- but it cost him in the bout. Wilson was fatigued and did not have the normal spark, nor could he land his famed power punches. Ehikhamenor won by scores of 50-44 (twice) and 50-45.
The loss is included in Wilson's record and he falls to 23-8-3, 20 KO's and he has lost three of his last four. Ehikhamenor, a native of Benin who now fights out of Queens, NY, now has a record of 13-3, seven KO's.

Darnel, I thought the fight was much closer than the judges score cards. Me and my family was all cheering loud for you. You keep training hard and another oppurtunity will come to you.

Yeah, it's tough to tell because of the editing. Most of these fights look closer than they are. Although, I've noticed that the reaction of the respective fighters' teammates, after the closing bell, is a pretty good indicator.
Wilson looked like a novice amateur. He is much better than that. You can't really tell too much about the fight because of editing. But closer than the judges scorecards. 49-45 maybe. No excuse for being overweight. He blew a golden opportunity. Hopefully he can rebound.
