New Poll: Who is the 2008 Beltway Boxer of the Year?

While we did not have a Beltway Boxer take a big step in 2008, a number of boxers made solid advancements in their careers this year. So here are the top 10 candidates for Beltway Boxer of the Year in 2008:

Ishmail "The Arsenal" Arvin, middleweight, Baltimore, MD (1-0-1, one KO in 2008, 15-1-4, seven KO's overall)

Ty Barnett, junior welterweight, Washington, DC (4-0, two KO's in 2008, 16-0-1, 11 KO's)

Fernando Guerrero, middleweight, Salisbury, MD (12-0, 11 KO's in 2008 and overall)

"The Mongolian Mongoose" Bayan Jargal, junior welterweight, Arlington, VA (4-0, three KO's in 2008, 9-0-1, six KO's overall)

"The Persecutor" Mike Paschall, super middleweight, Baltimore, MD (4-1, two KO's in 2008, 18-1-1, four KO's overall)

Anthony Peterson, lightweight, Washington, DC (3-0, one KO in 2008, 28-0, 19 KO's overall)

Lamont Peterson, junior welterweight, Washington, DC (3-0, one KO in 2008, 26-0, 12 KO's overall)

Tyrell "Da Show Shock 'A" Samuel, featherweight, Baltimore, MD (2-0 in 2008, 11-2, five KO's overall)

"The OC Bomber" Joshua Snyder, middleweight, Ocean City, MD (3-1-1, one KO in 2008, 8-3-1, three KO's overall)

Willie "For Real" Williams, super middleweight, Baltimore, MD (3-1-1, one KO in 2008, 12-3-1, three KO's overall)

Eight of the 10 boxers on this list made national TV appearances. Seven of the eight boxers were victorious on national TV and Paschall, who suffered the only loss, did not hurt his stock in his loss to Andre Dirrell. Five of the boxers held some sort of local or regional title.

By the way, I am still working on the year in review. Holiday happenings have gotten in the way, but it is in the works. I may give it to you in sections starting tomorrow.

Fernando Guerrero and Joshua Snyder should fight for the honors. They are the most accomplished fighters of 2008. Not trying to start trouble just a suggestion. That would be a fight to remember.

for real williams, and SUGARPOO should fight...wont be much of a fight tho that boy SUGARPOO can fight, and yall know it so dont hate..yall didnt put sugarpoo in the nomination,he knows why.dont act like yall didnt see him on espn.he looked good, real good.other than the fighters at the headbangers and sugarpoo..dc boxing would be some shit.sugarpoo said to me last week, that he dont know why it is hard to make it at home. he dont care tho he said.he likes to fight and thats all that matters.dont put him in the nomination.this site cant fight for you in the ring, hes a good fighter, better than some of the guys thats on this page...sugarpoo keep boxing your hart out and when you become champ, tell boxing along the beltway to go to HELL.

Buchanan went undefeated in 2008, but they were bouts simply to get him back on track. Neither bout advanced his career in any way. Poo only fought once in 2007 since his loss in the Super Middleweight Tournament.

Hopefully, he will start moving back up the ladder in 2009.
