Guerrero Returns to Action in Tennessee November 15!

Undefeated rookie middleweight Fernando Guerrero of Salisbury, MD returns to action with a scheduled six-round contest against Gevonte Davis of Gulfport, MS this Saturday, November 15 at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.

Guerrero (10-0, nine KO's) is coming off a nationally-televised eight-round unanimous decision over Tyrone Watson on October 3 in front of 9,000 people in his hometown of Salisbury.

Davis (3-1-1, two KO's) has won three straight, including a four-round unanimous decision over William Johnson on August 16 in Rayne, LA. This is the first time Davis has participated in a scheduled six-round contest.

The bout is on the non-televised undercard of the Jermain Taylor-Jeff Lacy bout that will be shown on HBO.

  1. I hope for the sake of boxing they keep him active in the area. If he keeps dominating people, he could become a very big draw in the Maryland/DC area.

  4. Technically, no he's not because Salisbury is the only place in the area that he has drawn. To be close to the biggest draw in the area, Guerrero will have to draw in other places around the Beltway.

Jimmy Lange has drawn in Virginia, in the Ballroom in Maryland and in DC. That's the model Guerrero has to follow.

Yes, Guerrero has the talent to do that, but it depends on whether his fan base that he developed in Salisbury will travel.

  5. Lange never put 6500. in people in the seats, and has never been good enough to get on Showtime. FG has the talent and the fans, and wghether he draws in Salisbury of Boone, it does not matter. he is the biggest draw.

  6. LOL!

No disrespect for the Lange Camp. You guys will always rock those great shows.

This is a whole different story, You weren't there Gary... You didn't feel Salisbury's strength This fan travelled and Guererro's fans will too!

  7. The best thing for the area is to have Lange and Guerrero headline a show together in separate bouts. The combination would be great for any promoter!

  8. No, just tired of arguing about it.

The FACT is I've seen Lange draw everywhere he's been and yes, the first bout that Lange had at the Patriot Center with Perry Ballard drew close to 7,000 people (and I was there for that and felt the emotion).

I've also seen Lange personally draw in DC at the Lincoln Theatre, the Convention Center, the Armory and Constitution Hall, and in Maryland at Michael's Eighth Avenue.

I certainly think Fernando can do the same and when he does that, then we can talk about whether he's the biggest draw in the area. Right now, it's too soon to tell.

  9. Lange also doesn't have a promotional group backing him like Fernando has with Prize Fight Boxing.

  10. Well of course that would be good for most everyone in the mix,

We are coming from different sides, but both blowin' spit in our favorite or most known wind.

You have seen more of that side and I more of the the other.

Love them both. Trust my instincts in Guerrero.

EVEN thought he didn't have the advantages that Lange's camp has enjoyed.

  11. First, Thanks to linda for some great pictures of the fight in Salisbury. I enjoyed going through them and called the out of town fighters to let them know that there were some good shots of them that they can access. As far as the agument of who draws better, although we appriciate the supportive comments, the bigger question is how can we get the Beltway boxing fans to come out and show more support for all the beltway fighter. If Jimmy lange draws well that's good for everyone, it good for boxing. If we can be a part of getting more people involved in watching and supporting boxing, then we feel like we have done more than had a good show. I would hope that the beltway fans and supports would understand that by showing up to watch the Petersons, Ty Barnett, Jessie, Snow, Pascal, The Mechanic, Cummings,Tucker, Grant,Coleman and all the other Beltway boxer that train so hard to represent this area, they hold the power to make the beltway a major hub for boxing. That is how you start to bring this sport back up where it belongs. More succesfful shows, will bring more and better talent, and that can insire more amateur programs to continue the process in the future. Just my opinion. Coach Hal

  12. I would personally like to say that i am proud of my personal friend "Davis" for having the the fortitude to take the fight, no one ever gives props to the underdog and that is what is rediculious!

  13. First, Guerrero is a Beltway Boxer so this site obviously gives props to him. If I were doing a blog about the action in Tennessee, then I would have definitely given props to Davis before the contest.

Nothing personal, but most fans who live in our area like the outcome we received from Guerrero this evening. Davis definitely deserves kudos for taking the contest in the first place.

  14. My apologies. That should be Mississippi boxing, not Tennessee.
