Mike "The Persecutor" Paschall suffered his first pro loss after a blistering left hand from Andre "The Matrix" Dirrell dropped him and caused a deep cut on his forehead that the ringside physician could not stop.
The stoppage came at 1:32 of the fourth round at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, WA in front of a nationally televised Showtime Championship Boxing audience.
Paschall's record drops to 17-1-1, four KO's. Dirrell is now 16-0, 11 KO's.

Didn't look like that bad a punch, but damn, what a cut. Rematch maybe?
This had the makings of a hell-of-a fight. When Mike asked for one more round it reminded me when Dean White said the same thing.I thought he made a good showing of himself, and may land some more work because of it.

Mike defintely represented. Judges had it 2-1 for Durrell, but I really wanted to
I must admit, I was a doubter, but Mike showed ME something. I don't think Durrell will make good on his word. He told Mike he would give him a rematch. That won't happen, but Mike definitely will be on TV again soon, now.
Good job, Paschall.
I was present at the nationals in 2001 to see a 17 year old Andre "The Matrix" Dirrell win it all at 132 pounds. In fact I was there with Cory "black ice" Cummings who fought at 178 pounds. Dirrell not only won his division, but also won the most outstanding fighter in the entire national competition. He, even at that young age was already and outstanding talent. I understand that he beat the pants off of chad dawson in sparring sessions.
This makes Mike Paschall's performance all the more impressive. I know that many of his own hometown supporters and haters both thought that he would be in deep deep water , but Mike made a fight of it. Mike landed some impressive counter punches an well as a couple of lead shots. Actually I think Mike does a lot of grabbing and cluching but he knows how to make it work for him.
All and all I thought Mike was in the fight and actually turning it into the kind of fight that he is most comfortable with. I have to say that Mike impressed me a great deal tonight. Well thats how I saw it. Chin from the honeycomb boxing gym
People might not remember that Pascal went to the National GG and broke his hand early in a fight with a top guy and went on to win the fight but had to scratch the rest of the tournament. I would have liked to seen how far he could have gone barring that. No disrespect , but maybe this fight will push Mike to train harder get in his proper weight class and try to move on and up from being a local champ to performing on the big stage. He has very good tools.
Mike you represented yourself very well. You were doing great you got caught but didn't appear to hurt. I think your forehead got softened up by the headbutts. If the fight was allowed to continue I'm sure you would have gone for broke. You showed heart and proved you have the skill to move forward from this fight. You took a huge step up in competition and did well. We're all proud of you effort.

Mike don't know if you read this
blog but if you do, know that you have fans in virginia who know that you have what it takes.
Best of luck.

"The Matrix" felt a little something in that fight around the third round when Paschall caught Dirrell with a left/right hook combination. I could see that that combo got his attention. Dirrell is very quick and sharp but he may be be most vulnerable when he is punching. In fact he drops his other hand and gives you a little opportunity to get yours in.
I enjoyed watching it and actually I would like to put one of my guys in a sparring session with Mike just to see where we are in the game. Mike has been in deep waters and he can swim. You know I have been around this country and seen a lot of fighters and trainers and I say it with no doubt in my mind. We have some the best of both here in this area. This was a big fight and it was something to see. chin from the honeycomb boxing gym
Very credible performance from Paschall. Let's hope his handlers get him back in with a much higher level of opposition than the total softies he's used to.
The kids got talent, toughness and balls to make waves. A bit of stiff competition won't hurt at all.
I had Mike winning 2 rounds (the first and the third) when the fight was stopped. Look, I know huge gashes look terrible but what is the long term risk really? I understand if an eye is ripped open and blood is flowing in to the eye. And Paschall's cut was huge and flowed like a faucet. But perhaps the rules need to be updated and the corner should be allowed to work on the cut before the round ends and THEN if the cut can't be stopped, stop the fight. Paschall may have gotten this guy.
The doc took a good, long look at it b4 making his decision...
