There are some changes and additions to the Friday, August 15 nationally televised (ESPN2) Major Heavy Hitters/Duva Boxing card at the Ibiza Nightclub in DC.
The opponent for undefeated Oxon Hill, MD light heavyweight Alexander "The Great" Johnson has changed. Johnson (5-0, three KO's) will take on Zeferino Albino (3-6-2, one KO) of Philadelphia, PA in a six-round rematch. Johnson defeated Albino by four-round unanimous decision on November 29, 2007 at Michael's Eighth Avenue in Glen Burnie, MD. Albino has had a rough time since the first Johnson bout as he has just one win in his last seven outings.
Albino replaces Reggie LaCrete who was injured in training.
Undefeated USBA Cruiserweight champion BJ "El Peligroso" Flores has been added to the card. This will be the first bout for the Chandler, AZ resident since his unanimous decision championship win over Darnell Wilson on February 8 in Dover, DE. Flores (21-0-1, 13 KO's) will fight a six-round contest against Cory "The Cobra" Phelps of Cattlesburg, KY (13-4-1, seven KO's).
The co-feature bout will match West Hills, CA cruiserweight Ola “Kryptonite” Afolabi against DeLeon Tinsley of Orlando, FL in an eight-round contest. Afolabi (12-1-3, five KO’s) is unbeaten in his last 10 bouts and scored a 10th round TKO over previously undefeated Eric Fields in his last outing on April 12 in Tacoma, WA. Tinsley (9-3-1, five KO’s) is coming off an eight-round unanimous decision over former WBA Light Heavyweight world champion Lou Del Valle on July 18 in Miami, FL.
Undefeated McKeesport, PA super middleweight Tyrone "T.T." Watson (7-0, three KO's) will take on veteran James North of Weston, WVA (8-20-3, three KO's) in a four-round contest.
The main event remains the same -- a 10-round bout for the vacant United States Boxing Organization (USBO) Junior Middleweight title. Ishmail “The Arsenal” Arvin of Baltimore, MD will battle Philadelphia, PA’s Anthony “The Messenger” Thompson.
Arvin (14-1-4, six KO's) has only fought twice since December of 2007 with both bouts ending in draws. Arvin will be looking for his first win since June 15, 2006 when he won a six-round unanimous decision over David Estrada in Glen Burnie.
Thompson (23-2, 17 KO’s) will be coming off an even longer time of inactivity. Thompson has not fought since losing a 10-round split decision to Yuri Foreman on June 9, 2007 in Madison Square Garden in New York City. The loss broke an eight-bout winning streak.
Undefeated Brandywine, MD heavyweight Seth “Mayhem” Mitchell (4-0-1, three KO’s) also remains on the card and will take on Elkhart, IN’s Ryan “The Gatekeeper” St. Germain in a four-round contest. Mitchell scored a first-round knockout over Henry Namauu on July 23 in Cabazon, CA. St. Germain (2-2, two KO’s) will be trying to bounce back from a four-round unanimous decision to Jim Emrick on May 30 in Monroeville, PA.

Alright, 3 bouts with Beltway Boxers, 2 without. Hopefully all of these will happen (I remember at one of the DC Armory shows ESPN had a delay).
Man, that sucks about LaCrete...I was looking forward to that fight (you said it had possible Beltway Bout of the Year potential).
I was looking forward to that one also. I've been hearing that Albino has gotten progressively better, despite his record. He held LeCrete to a draw recently.
Lacrete's last fight was a draw with Albino. Albino was much better then when he fought Johnson the first time. This should be an indicator whether Johnson is growing as a fighter.
With all the local talent, only three are on the show????????

The commitment of Major Boxing is to showcase the best talent in the area. The best way to showcase local talent to the world is to put those fighters on shows either against or in context with national talent. It draws attention to the shows and to the best area fighters.
Originally this card was going to be non televised and featuring more local talent- the original card featured Reggie Holly, Jaime Palma, Norman Allen among others. But when the opportunity came up to do the show as a co-promotion with Duva Boxing it was the natural thing to do. What made that work was that ESPN liked our main event, and since that fit into our mandate of showcasing the best area talent, it all made sense. And as Major Boxing aspires to be a significant promoter, showcasing Baltimore, DC and even Philadelphia talent on national tv makes.
The next show will September 17th and that card will be announced soon.

The matchmakers in this area suck !!!! i have yet to see good matches in this area in years. They bring in guys from virginia and north carolina who come to collect a paycheck.. someone mentioned talent in this area, please.. this area is full of bums !!!! u got mayhem mitchell who will turn out to be a pretender. I watch his fight, that was ruled a draw, against a bum, who really beat him. I am 41 years old and would never let a bum from this area beat me at cruiserweight or heavyweight...

I think arvin is in for a beat down working with bums like rick combs who didn't have much of a pro career. Anthony will murder him in two rounds I will be front row awaiting the tko:)

I don't think there's a difference in price.
The doors open at 6 PM and the card starts at 7 PM. The ESPN2 telecast goes off at 9 PM.
It's a possibility that either Seth Mitchell's bout and/or Alexander Johnson's contest will make the telecast.
When ESPN FINALLY makes the decision to go with a promoter, they call the shots for the televised bouts and have to OK the bouts. This is why Teddy Atlas always says those same word on every broadcast "This fight was taken on a 2 day notice. ESPN does not give a crap about helping make a good show by giving a promoter time to promote properly, they make them wait till the last minute and then make them jump through hoops. I am not talking about Teddy Atlas, as I believe he agrees completely. Ask any promoter that has ever worked with them or tried to work with them and they all say the same exact thing.
