Two more Beltway Boxers are slated to appear on the card slated for this Saturday, July 26 at the Valencia Ballroom in York, PA.
Undefeated Arlington, VA welterweight Bayan Jargal (5-0-1, three KO's) has been added to the card and will take on Lancaster, PA's Manuel Guzman (6-5-1, two KO's) in a bout slated for either four or six rounds.
This will be Jargal's first action of 2008. Jargal scored a second-round TKO over Nathan Francis in his last outing on December 15 in Dulles, VA. Guzman has won three straight, including a four-round split decision over previously undefeated (11-0) Tommy Rainone on June 4 in Brooklyn, NY. Guzman has also faced undefeated Latif Mundy as well as Contender: Season 2 star Aaron Torres, losing to both by unanimous decision.
Also added to the card will be Windsor Mill, MD middleweight Julius Kennedy (1-1, one KO). Kennedy has not fought since April of 2006 when he fought twice within a six-day period. Kennedy lost his pro debut on April 21 of 2006 in Pikesville, MD, dropping a four-round unanimous decision to Jayson Champion. Then on April 27, Kennedy knocked out William Wilson in the first round in North Charleston, SC.
Kennedy's opponent will be undefeated, Nigerian-born Inka Laleye (3-0-1, one KO). The Tampa, FL based Laleye is coming off a four-round draw against Luis Hodge on April 5 in St. Petersburg, FL.
Undefeated light heavyweight Mark "TNT" Tucker (4-0, four KO's) of Eldersburg, MD has found an opponent for the co-feature bout on this card. Tucker will take on Akron, OH's Bob Wilder (2-3, one KO). Wilder last fought on April 27 in Chester, WVA when was stopped by Jimmy Lubash in the third round. Wilder's last victory came in Glen Burnie, MD on November 29 of 2007 when he stopped Carson McCourry in the first round.

Seth "Mayhem" Mitchell fights on Wednesday night fights July 23 on ESPN.(recently signed with golden boys)
Jargal has signed a contract to
fight on August 9 at Roanoke and I doubt if that contract allows him to fight anywhere else before then.
Please check the "Beltway Boxers Making Road Trips" post that mentions Mitchell.
As far as Jargal. Boxers have fought twice in a two week period before so it is possible Jargal could be on both cards.
Gary
contracts are put in place for a number of reasons and one of them is to protect the promoter from fighters taking other fights when they have already committed themselves to fighting on that particular promoters show.
What if the fighter fights on another show and gets cut or knocked out, then the first promoter is S.O.L after he has put a number of hours or days into the matchmaking of that fight.
There are a number of other reasons
but I'm not here to give a complete
lesson on matchmaking or promoting
and I'm sure you know who this is
so I won't say anything else
because if I do you will probobly say I'm attacking you.
Home Boy Slim
I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm just saying that it has happened before.
Personally, I would hope that a contract would protect a boxer from fighting so frequently. I'm just going with the info I've received.
It's a good thing you have a contract for the bout!
undercard fighters need to fight every two or three weeks to make ends meet, it is so hard for a young fighter to stay busy unless he has a promotional contract with a good promoter who runs shows on a regular basis.I hope that kid fights as much as possible to help supplement his income and give a lot of people a chance to see a future champ.
Bayan Jargal has had a number of fights fall through and no promoter to keep him busy. So it is understandable and probably somewhat regrettable that he and his management team may have signed for two fights within a few weeks. Scott Farmer clearly understands the fighter's problem here and has cleared Bayan Jargal to fight this weekend in York. The promoter of that event, TKO Boxing (based in Houston, but clearly planning to be doing more things in this area due to its involvement with Carney Bowman and interest in several other tri state fighters) thanks Scott for this, and will hopefully have the opportunity to return the favor. It is a great example of how promoters can be supportive of each other instead of threatened and how that is so beneficial to our thriving boxing community.
Chris is a thief. Ask slim.
thanks scott, that was great of you.
you to chris.
This shows alot of class on Scot Farmers part as a promoter.I think promoters should work together and have a common goal of making money but also helping local fighters get ahead,Scot I take my hat off to you ,you should be applauded for your actions and also your promotions. J.D.Brown
Home Boy Slim... why you attacking Gary?
Digital,
I just received a call from a former local fighter who said he needs our help in the worst way! His house is still submerged under water, the results of the storm that ravaged parts of Texas last week. The caller was the 1988 Olympic Gold Medalist and IBF Lt Heavyweight World Champion known as "BAM"... Boxing Andrew Maynard.
I am personally going to dig as deep as I can to assist this ring warrior who has fallen on hard times, and I challenge all boxing fans and readers of BATB to do the same. Remember "there by the Grace of GOD, go I." Have a heart boxing fans, and send a donation to him at the only residence he has now, his gym. Here's the address: 516 W. vanvuren St.
Arlington, Texas 78550
I spoke to our friend, the renown JD Brown, who will make contact with Sugar Ray Leonard and some others, as they had great history together in leading Andrew to the title.
If everyone does a little, no one person has to do a lot. Bless each of you for your contributions, and thanks Gary, for allowing this blog to be the vehicle to assist someone who is truly deserving.
Fight against julius kennedy was won by pure luck. I did not understand the command ending in a short stoppage. I'll beat that kid any place anytime call tommy hill at 202-270-0060 or bonnie mann at 919-798-2348. Lets get it right, I'm not a walk in the park!!
