Hold Spears Family in Thoughts and Prayers!

I ask that you hold the family of my very good friend and broadcast partner "The Fight Doctor" Jerome Spears in your thoughts and prayers. Jerome's mother, Irene C. Spears, passed away early this morning after a long illness.

Funeral arrangements are forthcoming, but Jerome asked me to let the Beltway Boxing community know about this situation.

To all who have expressed kind words (via Gary’s Blog – Boxing Along The Beltway -, phones calls, e-mails, visits) and sent their well wishes and prayers from near and far, my (and my family’s) way during this difficult time, I deeply appreciate it. My Mother (Irene C. Spears) successfully raised five children and played a significant role in the many grand and great-grand children who followed. She loved and was very active in her church (St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic – in West Baltimore), as well as the neighborhood, Hanlon Improvement Association for many, many years.

She was not beaten by cancer. In my mind, this was an ending via GSC (GOD Stops Contest). No way could this remotely be considered a TKO, because this fighter (my Mom) fought the GOOD FIGHT, until GOD told her that her work here was done and that it was time to come home. WELL DONE MOM, WELL DONE! We will all love and miss you. You taught us well. We will carry on and continue to make you proud.
During your 80+ years you had such a tremendously positive impact on all you touched. You are in a better place now.

This ten count is for YOU.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten!

Ten Count – You’re Done!

REST IN PEACE

The Fight Doctor (Jerome Vincent Spears)

There will be a viewing of her body on Tuesday, July 1st, 2008, at the Joseph L. Russ Funeral Home, 2222 W. North Ave., Baltimore, MD 21216, (410) 523-3361, from 5 to 8pm. The wake (9am), followed by the service (10am) will be held the next day, Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008, at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, 3301 Windsor Ave, Baltimore, MD 21216,
(410) 624-3600. The burial will take place immediately after the service, at the Baltimore National Cemetery, 5501 Frederick Ave, Baltimore, MD 21228, (410) 644-9696, where she will be laid next to her husband (Clarence N. Spears, Sr, a WWII Veteran), who preceded her in death over 47 years ago.

"Mom and Dad, together once again!"

The Spears Family will return to the St. Cecilia’s Church Hall for food after the burial (all are welcome).
