Rivers Remains In National Golden Gloves!

And then, there was one. Only one Beltway Boxer remains in the competition at the National Golden Gloves in Grand Rapids, MI.

Kevin Rivers of DC advanced to the semi-finals of the 119-pound division with a decision over Christian Faz of Texas.

The other two Beltway Boxers remaining -- DC's Jarrett Hurd and Ferndale's Nick Kisner -- were both eliminated in tonight's competition. Hurd lost a decision to Charles Howard of Cincinnati in the 165-pound division whle Kisner lost by decision to Jeremiah Graziano of Kansas City in the 201-pound class.

Great job, Kevin and good luck! Graziano is one tough boxer. He plans on turning pro after the gloves. He moved to KC to train with John Brown (owner of Ringside) and likens himself to Mike Tyson. He has about a 90% KO rate (or referee stoppage by head blow) and has even put many of them on his youtube page.

This is a great experience for any boxer, so again great job. If you can get to the nationals and win a bout (or two) that is a great accomplishment. Especially considering most of the DC area boxers have just become open-class boxers (Kisner, Moore, Rivers, Hurd).

Good Luck Kevin! I knew you were going to be great. You had the best teacher in the world Adrian Davis. You make Round 1 proud of you. I will never forget when you stopped Gains with a body shot over at Ray's gym. See you when you get home...
