Results From District Heights!

Clinton, MD super middleweight Demetrius Davis won a hard-fought and somewhat bizarre eight-round majority decision over Brian "The Assassin" Norman of Lithonia, GA in the main event of the Keystone Boxing card at the District Heights Municipal Center in District Heights, MD.

Davis dropped Norman in the second round with a solid right hand that weighed heavily on two judges scorecards. Davis also benefitted from Norman having a point deducted in the seventh round for repeatedly spitting out his mouthpiece. Norman lost his mouthpiece six times during the contest, at some points when he seemed to have the offensive advantage. Judge John Gradowski saw the draw at 75-75 while Judge Kenny Chevalier scored the bout 78-73 and Judge Don Risher scored it 78-72 for Davis.

The win breaks a four-bout losing streak for Davis, who raises his record to 18-14-4, seven KO's. Norman falls to 16-7, four KO's.

In the co-feature, Riverdale, MD based Carlos "Perro" Cisneros scored a stunning second-round TKO over Laurel, MD's Norman "The Shadow" Allen.

Cisneros came out very strong landing looping left and right hand shots. Cisneros dropped Allen twice, one with each hand before Chevalier stopped the contest at one minute of the second round.

Cisneros raises his record to 9-15-1, six KO's while Allen suffers his first defeat as a pro and he is now 3-1, two KO's.

The pro debut of Ellicott City, MD cruiserweight Robert McConnell, Jr. was spoiled by a second-round TKO courtesy of the equally debuting Garrett Wilson of Philadelphia. In the second, Wilson dropped McConnell with a picture-perfect counter left hook. McConnell got to his feet, but referee Gradowski stopped the contest at 2:38 of the round.

The result was better for rookie Laurel, MD lightweight L. Dwayne Martin as he scored a second-round TKO over Ahmed Poskovic of Akron, OH in his pro debut. Martin punished Poskovic for the entire two-round period until Poskovic, on advice of ringside physicians, did not come out for the third round. Poskovic is 0-3.

Another Akron product, junior middleweight James "The Problem" Denson, was a big problem for DC's Kendrick "Holy Hands" Walker. Denson used a crushing left hand to drop Walker in the third round and went on to a TKO victory at 2:38. Denton is now 3-1, two KO's. Walker is now 0-2-1.

In the opening contest, Brooklyn, NY light heavyweight William Jeter won a four-round majority decision over Corey "Wolverine" Washington of Louisville, KY. Jeter is now 1-0, one NC while Washington is 1-1, one KO.

Seth Mitchell's bout was taken off the card when his scheduled opponent, Jamal Terry, did not show for the weigh-in.

I just wanted to say that the first fight was awesome. William Jeter showed a lot of heart and courage in the fight. He was constant with the jab and kept his composure through out the whole fight. I think this fighter will go a long way.

Great event Gene! When is the next one???

Gene, great matchmaking. This event was fun to watch, well put together. PG county is lucky to have you. All the fighters were in shape and fought hard. What is the deal with the Russells? Doesn't the USOC pay for Gary's trip?

The crowd was very good for this small location. I'd estimate about 250. But it was three-quarters full.

Ofcourse USA boxing pays for Gary's trip to China, but his family should be there too. Yes, I know we have had several fund raising events for the same trip, but going to china is not cheap.
The family not only needs a hotel to stay at, but they also need money for food and air travel.
If everyone would stop being so damn cheap, we could raise enough money in one sitting. I know I did my share-now do yours.

Congratulations Vaughn on a great win.Keep it going.

Your bro, Mike Davis

Look, it would be great if the man's family made it with him to China, but it's not a right. It's a privilege. If they don't have the money themselves then they could continue having fundraisers and perhaps the money can be raised that way. Kind of reminds me of these guys family members and friends who show up at the fight with the fighter and expect to get in free without a ticket. It doesn't work that way, there is no free lunch. Or remember this one: "Gas, grass, or ass nobody rides for free!" That's our country, and the quicker you learn that you have to earn your keep, the easier your life will be.

Signed,

It's Like That

having fund raisers IS the American way.

It happens all the time.

you sound like a bigot.

i bet you didn't say anything when Lange had a 'FUNDRAISER' for the Corrales family at the McLean hotel.

that event raised over $5,000.

where was your tirade about that? or were you silent?

to the guys having the fundraiser for the russell family, WHERE/HOW CAN I DONATE????

JD, why the attitude? Legitimate question. How much was your part? What is it that should be given? How much have they raised, what do they need to raise? How many family members are going? Immediate family or others? These are all questions I need answered prior to raising money. That said, if the number is under 30k, that is an amount that can be raised quickly.

That was not a racist remark.
The last Anon brought up a good point about just letting everyone know what they have/need. Things are tough now for alot of folks, just putting gall in the tank and sustaining that roof over the head.

About a year or so ago a family had a catastrophe BATB & some promoters and others stepped in and donated $$ or did various things to raise money. I know I did. I sent $250 never got a confirmation that they received it or anything, no update as to oh they are okay...blah blah blah, so after that I am kind of reticent about donating. Well also, I just don't have it now, but I think it would be worthy to donate for a least ONE family member to be there for Gary. Things are tough all over, and I wonder how many kids will have any support there.

Who are YOU to determine how many family members should get to travel to china with gary?

I think willie meant to say....

Can someone post an address for those who would like to lend their support?

Anonymous said...

Does Keystone Boxing have a web site?

Why so sensitive?

We are the ones with the "deep pockets" that are being asked to pay to send "X" number of family members to go on HIS trip and are not allowed to have as much nerve as you? Get real.

Gary strikes me a a capable young warrior. How many family members do we need to pay for? You still haven't said how many you want to accompany him. If I were Gary, I would be kind of embarrassed. Let him grow up and be a man. He just needs one. I said it. It's his time to shine.
