I don't like seeing a fighter ruined by his manager. From talking to people at the Sportsplex, including fighters, and trainers, everyone said that Charles Norwood's career has been damaged by his manager. Hope Norwood changes management before he loses his career.

Way to go George and Todd!! Staunton team Rocks!

it was very unfortunate that Norwood lost the fight the way he did but it was to a very good fighter in Josh Snyder. What people don't know is that in the first round of the fight Charles suffered a couple of cracked ribs
and I don't think anybody could have fought Snyder competativly with cracked ribs.
Granted it was Snyder that cracked
the ribs but it can happen to
any fighter at any time and if it hadn't happened in the first round
I think it would have been a pickum
fight.Nobody can take anything away from Josh Snyder but I wouldn't close the book on Norwood
quite yet.
This guy has fought the best in the area and hasn't complained one time.Charles Norwood has alot to offer boxing and there are ways he can benefit from his past management

Doo's performance against Anderson should not be a surprise. Anderson did very well and should be proud of his performance. Would like to see Doo step up and stretch beyond the usual for 2008.

whenever you go to scotts shows you know who is gonna win

Anonymous said...

doo is a very good fighter.needs to step it up.quit fighting bums.maybe one day will become a champ

Anonymous said...

Doo man, Step it up. I say do a rematch against the fighter who gave you your 1st lost. I see your FATHER isn't trying to see you fight him twice(various reason's why- either he can't see his sone beat again or he can't pay him a $1), but can have you and anybody else fight other fighters more than once. Doo man will only be able to step up once his father is out of the picture. Think about it. You have a promising career, but keep with your daddy and when you do step it up it will show you what you have been missing. You can only be the Great White Hype for so long. It's getting old.

As far as the other bouts-Todd & George- you guys did your thing. Keep improving that career, but make sure you make smart choices you will need to soon to prove how good you actually are. It was ashame to see Norwood being ruined by his crew. Like Nova box said NOrwood needs to consider changing his management.

Anonymous said...

Todd Wilson vs. David Novia was the fight of the night! Novia is a tough guy, Todd was just the better fighter!

Anonymous said...

Hey Charles Norwood,
Look at all those guys you had fought, look how they turn out.
John Mackey 9-0
George Rivera 7-1
Juan Mcpherson 7-0
And all these guys will be fighting for some big money very soon. You could have been same as these guys. You acctually KOd one of the guy. John Mackey fought some tough guys and he always tells me that you were the hardest fight so far.
If you are looking for new management, dont look further call Joe Hensley or me (Han Kim). Joe is one of the hardest working person in this business. Han Kim.

Was Jason Jordan or curtis smith a bum . you people say that the Doo can't fight out of one side of your mouth and then you say that he's to good to fight the opposition that he's been fighting.
make up your mind and quit talking out of both sides of your mouth.
All you guys want to do is create conflict and trouble on this end.
I't ain't going to work guys.
And oh yeah who was Nuckys last three opponets? and did he get stopped. NO!Did he get stopped by the Doo .? Hell yes (easily).
And as for Andrew fighting the guy that has the win over him please see if you can get Ken Humphrey to take the fight. If you can you will be able to do something that I haven't been able to doo for almost two years.
You won't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out who wrote this.

I apologize to Charles Norood's management. I am sorry I put that stuff about new management thing earlier. I am really sorry. I just got a call from Scott Farmer and I sould have think twice before I put those things on there. Han Kim

what happened to delaney fighting rivera

Anonymous said...

Yeah? Great question.

Anonymous said...

you say you couldn't do that for 2 years, for the record it have only been a year and 2 months since that lost. Try harder..see what you can do. So you say that they weren't hard step him up and test his waters(even just once). He's 10-1 now. Have him fight someone who's 9-0, 9-1, 10-0, 11-1. Someone who's credentials who is like or better than his. Can you do that? that's all I am saying

Anonymous said...

The beauty of boxing, from a promoter's stand point is that most fans don't know anything about boxing. They are just as excited to see a 9-1 talented kid stop a 46 year old who had one win in his last 6 fights as they are to see a competitive fight. In fact, most are more excited because they get to see someone get beat up.
Interestingly, a 3-0 fighter packed the arena with fans to see him fight a 34 year old who was making his pro debut.
Better match ups would have been the 9-1, talented kid vs. the 3-0 ticket seller, and the 46 year old vs. the 34 year old making his pro debut.
Match making seldom works like that.

I first want to think everyone for the compliments and as well as the constructive critisism.haha I find it interesting that it doesn't matter who i fight, what the outcome is, you guys aren't happy. When other beltway fighters fight most people are happy no matter who they fight or how they fight. I will say one thing and i will stand by this for as long as i live, I AM NOT LEAVING MY FATHER!!!! He is the reason i am what i am. That's the problem with this business, there is absolutely no loyalty. Well i am loyal. As far as stepping up with guys with better records, Do the records indicate the fighters ability? i do not believe so, maybe i am wrong. I am no chicken, but i will do what ever my father says to do, PERIOD!! As far as ken humphrey's concern i will fight him for free, though it will never happen.

Andrew "DooMan" Farmer

Congrats Doo Man! Father-Son combos have worked for many- O'Grady, Trinidad, Jones- it can work for you as well. Don't rush yourself, better to get your wins, develop your experience and move deliberately. Fighters only have so many wars in them, don't waste em to satisfy some bleacher bums like me. Good luck, work hard!

To people complaining that Norwood is being brought along poorly.

This sort of thing is what happens when a good fighter does not have the money backing him to bring in guys to develop him slowly.

Rivera, Farmer, John Mackey, all those guys have a promoter willing to go out and find guys that aren't a HUGE threat to their fighter, but will still test them in certain ways.

When you have a little money backing you then you can do this.

When you don't have money backing you then you have to go out and find the fights that are there, and often those fights are tough.

Charles Norwood is certainly a tough fighter. I was there when he KOed Rivera, and remember thinking to myself how unexpected that was. A few weeks later I heard about him being robbed in Pittsburgh in a fight with Juan McPhereson in what was the fight of the night up there.

Don't blame Norwoods management for his competition, they are taking the fights they can get, and Norwood is game and tough and doesn't back down.

As long as he doesnt "Get Accustomed to Losing" he'll remain tough and game. But thats the risk that has to be taken in his situation.

Give him a few years and he could end up being a very, very dangerous fighter, with experience and skil beyond what his record might show.

I heard delaney pulled out at the last second and they got Brothers to fight Rivera.

Sounds like I missed a great night of fights. I wish I could have been there.

Congratulations Scott!

Congratulations to Jonny, Joe, and all of the fighters as well. It's nice to see Virginia has become such a hotbed of boxing activity.
In my humble opinion, we've always had good fighters (Tony Suggs, Lionel Butler, Sean Carrigan, Jose Almanzar, etc.) but have not had enough fights locally to keep them active and gain public interest. It's great to see all the promoters working together to change that.

Terry Roy will not only fight again I think that he will come back with a vengance.
Out of all his stab wounds the one that went into the bone in his arm seems to be the one that is giving him the most trouble but even that one is healing. Don't count T-brick
out, he has what it takes to come backl from this and even be stronger.

The critics of Mr. Charles Norwood's management team have offended many fine people in and around Champ's Gym.
On top of this BS, two family deaths and a forest fire took a toll on the two Champ fighters, the manager and their loved ones prior to this event. Privacy about the specific details are in order. (You only need to know about hardship in ones own life to imagine the extent of the resentment created by Mr. Han Kim's remarks and blatant actions to recruit Mr. Norwood from Champ's Gym on this blog of all places.) Yet, you don't hear one complaint or excuse from these men. They met their obligations Saturday Night proving they believe a man's word is his bond and the fighters left nothing in the ring as witnessed by all... great bouts for the fans and Left Hook Boxing.
Were they 100% prepared? No. Is the manager at fault? No-way. Did our guys rise to the occasion during difficult times? Damn right they did and they made us proud of them. Is there disappointment? What do you think?
Some good men are loaded for bear because you don't kick a man when he is down. Mr. Han Kim is not a professional and has no class and was totally out of line. I will leave it to others to reply to the BS mismanagement remarks. The future remains bright for Mr. Norwood, Mr.Novia and up and coming fighters out of Champ's Gym.
I look forward to working with them and Mr. Rick Hawkins to bring professional boxing to Roanoke, Virginia.
My statements are furnished soley for the benefit of the boxing fan and to help set the record straight.

Mr.Keith Frazier,
You are 100% right about me being unprofessional about making those remarks. But I wasnt trying to recruit Charles Norwood, I really wasnt. I was offering a help. And I didnt event know he had a manager but after talking with Scott Farmer I knew I made terrible mistake by saying those comments. Again, I am sincerely sorry about the comments I made and problem I may have caused by that.

I say again. I know Scott & Andrew (albeit not too well). Andrew is being moved properly. Scott is taking calculated risks. I think he's doing a genious job. Fighting guys like Nucky Anderson will build Andrew's experience in the long run. Bigger risks are taken on some fights (Smith, Humphrey, Jordan), and pure experience is gained on others (Anderson, Salyard, Mitchem). In any case, it's hard to imagine Andrew being in a bad fight. And THAT'S what keeps the fans coming back. Bravo Andrew on sticking with your father. He's the only one you'll get & he'll always take care of his son. And Bravo Scott for steering Andrew's career so well (not to mention making him one hell of a fighter).

Farmer, Rivera, and Robles have been moved slowly. Rivera fought Charles Norwood and Farmer fought Curtis Smith. Those are the best opponents that the three prospects have faced.
Now, Robles is sheduled to fight Calloway in March. On ESPN Teddy Atlas often warns about fighters who have been fighting in a state with a weak comminssion against weak opposition. When fighters venture into Philly, NYC, or Atlantic City they are often exposed.
Mondre Pope and Ivan Ziglar, two top Tidewater amateurs recently debuted in Philly.Pope would be a tough match up for anyone in Va. at 135-40 and Ziglar would be a tough match up for anyone in Va. at 154-60 already. Each only got a draw in their pro debut in Philly. They are starting off tough, makes one think that their teams believe they can go all the way.I'd like to see those two on some NOVA cards.

I want to see Cold Blood Patrick Budd lay some more punishment. Get him some more fights with better opponents.

Linda "Great Shot" Siadys said...

Everyone seems to know how to do it better. I was just reading about ToughMan, and how the reason it got started was someone kept getting tired of people saying they could fight better in the last fight they saw.
I guess everyone comes to table with different assets, skill, and foibles and that is what gives each fight we go to uniquely it's own.
Easy to say how much better we would have done it when we haven't, and in reality most of us couldn't even begin to.
Reminds me of that adage...walk a mile in someone else's shoes.

Anonymous said...

Mondre Pope is a really talented
but I don't beleive he is even with Bobby Jordan anymore.

Anonymous said...

scott would really like to see doo man fight curtis smith again so everybody will shut their mouth about him.alot of people think it shold of been a draw.have you thought about fighting him again

Anonymous said...

Yes have thought about it more than once, especially after watching the film a few times.
As I stated on this blog a few days after the fight I thought the fight was very close but only because of the knockdown, the other rounds Andrew won going away,
He landed almost twice as many clean hard punches throughout the fight. The Doo has stated to me that he would welcome the opportunity to battle Smith again.
Andrew has had many critics on this blog and he should be making some of you people that make all the negative statements realize that all the things you are saying
don't hold any weight with the people that really know boxing.
It doesn't really matter who he fights or beats some of you jealous individuals are never going to give him his props.
Why don't some of the other 140 pounders in this area fight Smith.
If they dare.
Bet there won't be any takers.
The Doo will probobly fight smith again but it will be on our timetable. And I bet you are going to be suprised at the ouytcome of the fight.I will say that as long as it is financially feasable it will happen sometime within the next six months.

Hope I haven't offended anyone with the truth

In response to the above Anonymous post:

First there is no such thing as "JUST ANOTHER TICKET SELLER" ticket sales are the lifeblood of the whole show. The Wilson Fans (and Rivera's) were awesome and added to what would have been a more lackluster night outside the ropes. I don't think it was a sold out crowd so their contribution in $$ and Support is even more important and vital.
Second Wilson so far has done very well, and perhaps a match up between Farmer and he would be good, but come on, I don't see Andrew knocking Wilson out in the first round.
Wilson and his supporters definitely deserve better than this and I am sure Scott would agree and hopefully come to Team Wilson's defense.

Anonymous said...

Linda you should know by now
not to compare one fighter to another .You are getting into something that is not really your expertise again .Andrew farmer is in a diffrent class than Todd Wilson and I don't mean weight class.
Both of these guys are talented but in a fight they are worlds apart.Todd is very exciting and I'm sure a big help to promotions
but he should not be compared
to Andrew Farmer.Not Yet anyway.
You probobly couldn't get Scott Farmer to touch this with a ten foot pole because Todd and Andrew
Both fight on his cards but I know
what he is really thinking.
This is not a personal attack on Todd Wilson or you I've just been around for quite a while and just sit back and watch and listen and
you people who have been around for a year or two have very strong oppinions but they are not educated
opinions there emotional opinions
and if it makes you feel good to say the things you say then keep going but remember it's just an emotional opinion.
I too enjoy watching Todd Wilson
box but I live in a real world and
Farmer would be too much for Wilson right now.

Linda "Great Shot" Siadys said...

Anonymous,

You are responding very much like the original asinine poster I had in quote marks.

I didn't compare them. That poster did. The nut of my post had nothing to do with matching Todd with Andrew (I will be the first to bow out of any expertise on that subject) but rather I responded on how Wilson and his contribution and his teams participation was belittled and slandered.

Andrew is a great favorite of mine, who I am sure will do great things in the near future. I have only been around for a short while and although you posture you are very knowledgeable, you sidestepped the whole point I made and chose to ride on the same track the original poster was on. My issue was only about Todd. Not Andrew, and it was more grounded and less emotional than you and the anonymous post I cited.

Todd is a fighter. A good fighter and not JUST " a good help to promotions" You and the original poster seem to verbally pat him on the head and make it sound like any promoter who has him on their card is doing him a favor. I am new to this, don't know all the intricacies, but that doesn't sit well with me. All the fighters who show up and fight and bring something, if not a lot to the table deserve respect.

If you are that experienced and have that kind of logic shame on you. If you are that experienced and can't back it up with the integrity and grit of you name and character, you are in no position to placate me with your take on my years or understanding of boxing. People don't always feel good about having to spotlight an injustice, slur or shortcoming. So don't try to belittle my post like you did with Todd's contribution.

I think the fighters are all good whenever I attend. I only think they could do better where the announcer is concerned
