Aiken Stopped in the Seventh Round!

Eric "Mighty Mouse" Aiken was stopped in the seventh round by Monty Meza-Clay in front of a nationally televised ESPN2 audience in Monroeville, PA. Aiken showed a lot of heart in the bout but Meza-Clay was very effective inside, stopping the former IBF champion at 39 seconds of the seventh.

Aiken has now lost three of his last four bouts, all by knockout. The other bout against Cruz Carvajal was a draw. His record is now 16-7-1, 12 KO's. Meza-Clay is now 27-1, 18 KO's.

I gotta agree w/ what Roy Jones Jr. said: Eric landed some nice punches, but was fighting the wrong fight; he should've used his jab more instead of letting Meza-Clay get inside.

Yup I third that. The height difference was crazy, but Mouse let him walk straight inside with ease. It was like that was where he wanted to fight. Roy was right on point, Mouse had to utilize his reach with his jab, keeping him on the outside setting up the big right hand. That Meza-Clay was like the energizer bunny though. Very good fighter.

all he needed was to jab and move.
jab and one two, thats all he needed to do. keep that short guy outside and punish him with jab and stright right hand. the little man would have evantually slow down. ko was just matter of time then, it was all with good game plan. change your coner man, change your trainer. mouse still has the potential to be the cham.

in order to utilize the "jab and move" strategy as proposed here, you have to throw a stiff jab. Aiken throws the trademark Davis "pawing" jab. It won't keep anyone off of you, and it seems to only be used as a range finder or as an annoyance. What he needed was a stiff punishing jab to keep that kid from getting inside and to set up is good right hand. He looked totally lost and the result was obvious from the first series of punches. Too bad.

I know for a fact that Adrian Davis has been A great trainer but it seems to me that he needs a little time off from the fight game
to renew his interest and desire for the sport. Yhis is in no way meant as an insult or knock to one of the best trainers in the busniess but this man needs some time for himself and some time away from the sport.Six months or a year for you Adrian.
Best wishes
A caring friend

From someone who knows Aiken personally, it's time to hang up the gloves. The love is not there anymore. It was written all over his face before the first punch was thrown. I'd hate to see him keep fighting for pennies and humiliating himself! It's just not worth it.

Mouse did some good things but not enouth of them.He could have did alot of things better but thats water under the bridge. Now on the other hand Meza Clay was on fire at times but I guess it's easy to be on fire when there is not much
stopping you.One thing for sure the boy keeps on winning and winning.Ednar Cherry had the answer for him but nobody else seems too.

Mouse let him take control of the fight from 1 and on.He's a shot fighter.Did you see his last ko sometimes fighters can't back from stuff like that.I think he can't beat the guys in the top ten.I would love to see him Thomas Snow I think Snow would beat him now

Snow beating Mouse? you must lost your mind. Mouse aint finished, take couple month off and regroup himself. He will be back. When he comes back he will KO Snow with ease like Kobe Bryant going for the layups.

uh sorry, Kobe doesnt go for the layups. He slams it down.
