Thats awsome!! we have alot of beltway champs coming up,future champs, big G witch amature champ on here you think will be the next olympian? 2012.and you should do a poll on here and see witch beltway amature had the most sucess in 2007, out of this list 10 to 15yr olds you got the names... thanks G..
For those that don't know, these kids competed against boxers from Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. This is impressive that we have 23 champions with this many states eligible. DC/MD was represented in 22 of the 29 Championship Bouts on the 3rd and final day of competition. We definitely have good talent for BOTH the 2012 and 2016 Olympics!!!
Please get out and support our local amateur boxing by attending shows. These kids need our support!!!
That is AWESOME!!! Congrats guys. Gary, that sounds like it could be a record breaker.
I agree that the kids deserve all the support we can give and the cool thing is their fights are every bit as exciting and often more so than some of professional fights, so it's definitely a win win.
I wish the amateurs would be a little more aggressive about giving us info on the amateur shows. Too many times I see people on here asking for more info.
BIG G or somebody, who on that list is most likely to make the 2012 team anyboy??
Let me say this first and foremost:
I don't feel comfortable doing a poll about the amateurs. As talented as they are, they are still kids, young people. They do not need to be scrutinized in the manner that pros are.
I don't want to be blamed for causing discouragement in a gym just because a group of people chose one boxer over another in a poll. Let's enjoy everyone's success. Yes, we can talk about these kids and maybe have opinions on who will do what in the future, but as far as a formal poll, bad idea.
Gary, I agree with you. No need to put one kid above another.
I encourage people to look at the videos of the fights on youtube and leave comments and what their opinion about who wins. Some of the decisions where crazy. Look at little Pat Harris' decision. He gave a boxing lesson to the kid and didn't get the nod. There were other bad decisions in my opinion, but this one stands out. All the fights aren't up, but there are about 12 or so now. I heard a few others will be up too.

WOW!!!
Looks like Sugar Ray's gym in the new kid on the block.
Move over Headbangers and Old School. There is a new sherriff in town. Looks like Sugar ray's have a total of 7 boxers going to the Nationals. Old School has 5 and Headbangers has 3. Sherrif Fox has took control of the town. Hard work gets good results. Actually two of the boxers who no longer boxing out of Ray's learned everything they knew from Ray's gym. Larry Sing and Kareem Martin.
So Ray's has 9 going for real.
Just informed that Nomis has two going. Either way, all the boxers are from the DC area. Good luck and bring home them belts. You deserve it!!!
I'm waiting for permission to be able to post the video from the bouts here on the blog.
SRL is doing well now, but all of the gyms in DC/MD are really good about getting together to train when we go out of town. I know that Kareem Martin is a returning Silver Gloves Champion. SRL doesn't have any Silver Gloves Champions that will repeat. . . yet.
DC/MD definitely will be well represented in Missouri.
SRL has 5 boxers going to Missouri, not 9.
did va have any champion
Virginia only had one champion: Moshea Aleem (VA) at 14/15 year old division and 147lbs.
