Larry "The Gladiator" "EverReady" Brothers, Wow! He always comes through for the matchmakers/promoters doesn't he? I like Larry a lot and it will be good to see him at the fight. I wish him the best.

Yes he does BUT are those same matchmakers/promoters going to be there when Brothers needs help doing even the smallest tasks in about 10 years or so. He shouldn't be fighting anymore!

Hell, I need help doing the smallest tasks now and I don't even fight. I am sure Larry will claim his retirement before long. I respect the Doctor's that examine him and make the call. Ten years from now I don't want to be sitting in my life regretting what I WANTED to do but didn't because someone on a blog said no you shouldn't do that. I see what old age is like and it's going to be an ugly bitch anyway you slice it. I live each day and follow my heart and passion because I CAN now, who knows what tomorrow brings? And for me I think Larry is a good tenacious fighter who always battles as the gladiator he is. He has a beautiful son who looks up to him and I think that more than anything else will tell Larry the best time to retire for himself and his family.

He's going to get hurt, and fighters need to be protected from themselves. Same with football players. Long-term brain damage has a devastating ripple effect that extends from the injured out to the family and then community. A person rarely dies from these things but has to be helped through even the most menial tasks. Tell it to Jerry Quarry, Linda! Anyway, I hope the ref has a close eye on things, because Fight Night is always full of bloodlust. I'm not advocating the outlawing of professional boxing, because it is an amazing, if barbaric sport, and I've watched it for years, but certain guys have no clue when to stop. Sure, you can always find someone a Larry Brothers can compete with, but that doesn't make it right. Boxers are warriors for themselves until they cross the line and become cannon fodder and sacrifices for the entertainment of others.

Well I would never want to see Larry or any boxer hurt. I think Larry is tough and to call him cannon fodder is an insult to him and I resent that. I PRAY he will retire soon, but until he does, I will remain a big fan of his and will always support and respect his skills, along with with his wisdom in determining when to retire.

Larry Brothers is a good test for young fighters. He is limited, but tough and tenacious. Don't sell him or the matchmakers short. He might catch you like he did to Antwon Davis. Larry has his wits and he gets rewarded handsomely for these bouts where he steps in at the last moment.

Good points on both sides of the fence. At the end of the day, it's the fighter's responsibility and up to him to make the decision. It's up to the commission to decide whether or not a fighter should fight. If a guy like Brothers can't be dissuaded to fight, then he's going to have to live with the consequences to his health in the future.

Good last two points, I just want to add to Anoymous (4th post). In addition to NOT being Cannon Fodder, he is not "a" Larry Brothers he is THE ONE & ONLY Larry "Gladiator" Brothers. I will be in his corner tonight.

Those comments about forcing a fighter to quit his craft are absurd. Especially until 'Uncle Sam makes it so providing properly for one-self is fair, even, and 'do-able' without a doctorate degree or having the boss be your father. Otherwise take your idiotic worries and place them on yourself.

What gives you the audacity to become the sole decision maker on a mans future? What gives you the audacity to make the comments?

If a man makes a decision to do what he has to for himself considering 'Uncle Same doesn't want him to, he's thinking clearer than you are. How about you let another man/woman tell you to stop doing the work you do 'cause its threatening your health? Go ahead and do it, don't even worry about eating and striving for the life you want. Lets make sensible comments about another man's future, which is no comment at all; unless of course you 'goin do some major providing for that man.

I might be over your head at this point,...., sorry.

Martinez

Yeah... but if that boxer continuing to box can be deemed "not to be in the best interests of the sport", then they should be able to pull his license.

But there should be very solid grounds for that.

this linda person has no clue about brain damage.

Maybe Larry can come and live with you when he gets more brain damage.

But still, If Larry wants to risk getting serious brain damage for some temporary reward, that's absolutely his prerogative.

Now, if it's going to cause harm to some person like family or some institution, then there are grounds for stopping him from fighting... legally by a boxing commission, or through persuasion by family members.

But an outsider has no right to make a decision for the fighter. We can have opinions though.
