A cruiserweight crossroads battle will be the main event for the Diego Corrales Family Benefit boxing card on Saturday, October 6 at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner in McLean, VA.
Undefeated cruiserweight prospect "JC Superstar" Juan Carlos Robles of Waynesboro, VA will take on resurgent veteran William "The Storm" Bailey of Portsmouth, VA in a six-round contest.
Robles (9-0, four KO's) has not fought since his six-round unanimous decision victory over James Johnson on April 28 in Fisherville, VA. A few weeks after that win, Robles was involved in a motorcycle accident where he broke his forearm and injured his knee.
Robles also damaged his right pinky finger in the accident. Obviously, since boxers use their hands, the damaged pinky slowed down his recovery time. So, Robles took matters into his own hands and..took the pinky off himself -- without pain medication!
According to Robles's trainer/manager Bruce Frank, Robles put his finger on a sharp blade and hit it with a big block. The pinky came off with one shot. In fact, the amputation was so clean that when he did go to the emergency room, the doctor said that Robles actually did a nice job.
Robles later told Major League Boxing.com, "I may be missing a pinky, but I still have the whole fist."
Robles will need two strong fists to hold off the charge of Bailey, who has won his last two contests. Bailey's last bout was also on the April 28 Fisherville card. Bailey (7-12-2, four KO's) stopped Derek Amos in the second round. Prior to that win, Bailey gave Adam Seal his first pro loss, stopping him in the third round on the February 3 Fisherville card.
Three more bouts are slated for this benefit card, which is being promoted by Jimmy Lange Enterprises and Jackie Kallen's Ice Promotions.

Seems like a good fight. And damn that Robles is tough. I saw him at the Springfield show; seems like it pretty much needed to be amputated, though to do it yourself...!
HELLUVAFIGHT!
Holy shit! now thats dedication!
Dedicated or not, Robles is getting knocked out! Robles never hurt Derek Amos in two bouts and William Bailey knocked out Amos in 2 rounds!
Has Juan Robles fought anybody? NO
Is he a tough son of a bitch? YES.
Will he knock out William Bailey? No
Will Bailey knock Ronles out? NO
The winner of this fight will be determined by Bailey on how hard he trains and how bad he wants it.
It won't matter what Robles does if Bailey really wants it.
Robles had no amateur bouts and while he has fought mainly opponents, they were very credible opponents who fight back. Clearly though, he has amassed a wealth of experience early in his career. I'm a fan. Bailey is tough too. i haven't seen him fight since he was stopped by Alton Rice. This should be another test. Should be a great fight. Good luck to both of you guys.

I don't know, I think Robles is going to knock Bailey out. I heard there is some bad blood there and that Robles doesn't like Bailey. We'll see I guess. Can't wait!
Mike...
I have covered William's last 4 (I think) fights. He has progressively shown more strength and confidence each time. I really like both of these fighters, so for the first time am faced with I don't want either one of them to lose!I think we are definitely in for what may one of the most intense battles of the year.
Hey Linda, get my e-mail from Gary. There is someone I'd like to introduce you to.

Hey, Digital, could you please give Joe Hensley my email address (or give me his). I'd like to talk to him about something relating to this sbow (he should know what it is; we talked about it when I met him at last Saturday's Springfield show).
Alright, I got Joe's email. Thanks Linda.
Holy Moly! Last night I read your note on Robles' "trimming down," and still can't get that disturbing picture out of my mind. I'm not sure whether this speaks louder to JC's grit, or to the patheticly limited healthcare options available to too many professional boxers.
Robles chopped off his own finger????
Well, if he goes on fighting the way he does, he'll be missing a brain pretty soon too... heh, heh, heh
Cut off his right pinky finger??? You need all your fingers to make a proper fist. He'll never be able to hit hard with that hand again.
How would you know?
Try making a fist and leave your pinky finger extended as if it were gone. Now go hit the bag and see how it feels.
The little finger helps keep the fingers inbetween it and the thumb compact for making a strong fist.
Flawed argument, there is nothing to extend.
You ever had your hand in a boxing glove for a real pro fight? First, at his weight they wear 10 oz. gloves. And their hands are wrapped with gauze and tape. The gloves are small and most of the time the fighters can barely fit their hands in them and definitely can't close their hands all the way like you can when you make a fist with your bare hand. Those gloves and tight and hard, they almost make you make a fist by themselves.
All these comments, yes this will be a great fight maybe fight of the year. There is no bad blood, just two good fighters lacing them up and Bailey has been training very hard for this fight. So come October 6th "don't blink" the STORM is coming.
Trainer of Bailey
I've seen Bailey three times now and he can fight. I saw him fight Reggie LaCrete (I thought Bailey got robbed) and I saw him knock out Adam Seal and Derek Amos. The one that makes me think Bailey can win the fight is when he knocked out Amos. He beat his ass in two round and dropped him at least two times. I also saw Robles fight on all those same shows and I'm impressed by him as well. He never dropped Amos which tells me the edge in power goes to Bailey. Bailey is a big guy too and adding the extra weight seems to have helped him in his career. This is going to be a super fight between two guys that can really go. I can't wait!
Fight of the year?
I don't think so.
Every fight Robles has somebody from his camp starts calling it the fight of the year.
Put the guy in front of somebody that can really fight and not somebody drunk or somebody who doesn't even go to the gym and his
true ability will be revealed.
If William wants this fight Robles is in big trouble.
Bailey better want it because if he doesn't show up in the absolute best shape of his entire life he's getting Knocked The F Out! Even if he shows up in great shape, that Puerto Rican dude Robles is still gonna put it on him like he stole somethin!
