After the Sughan Promotions card on Saturday, August 25 at Robert E. Lee High School, Beltway Boxing fans in Northern Virginia will not have to wait long for another quality card.
Left Hook Boxing Promotions has a card coming to the ABC Sports Complex on Saturday, September 15. Right now, promoter Scott Farmer is working on 10 bouts and the proposed main event should be a barnburner -- an eight round all-Beltway junior welterweight matchup between Alexandria, VA's Jaime "The Punisher" Palma and Smithsburg, MD's Dean "Pitbull" White.
There will be a number of four-round contests on the card. One of them will be a cruiserweight matchup between Fredricksburg, VA's Adam "The Real Deal" Seal and "Cold Blood" Patrick Budd of Front Royal, VA.
And there will be a battle of the aged that may be interesting as Virginia boxing legend Willie "The Heat" Taylor takes on Derek Amos. Apparently there has been some harsh words expressed between the two within Virginia boxing circles and they want to settle it here. I know it sounds crazy but...
Also on the card will be Arlington, VA's Todd "White Lightning" Wilson and the celebrated return of Tommy "Sparkplug" Neal. This is the same Tommy Neal who had a serious accident with a forklift.
I'll have more on this card as it develops.
Damn, Palma-White has fight of the year potential written all over it.
ReplyDeleteGlad that Neal's back to fighting form.
I'd not be surprised to see Andrew Farmer on this (he's Scott's son, is he not?).
Digital, you going to this?
I will DEFINITELY be there for this one. I agree: Palma-White is indeed a fight of the year possible candidate as is Seal and Budd.
ReplyDeleteAndrew is scheduled for the Ocean City show on August 25. The word is Andrew's trying to branch out and fight on other cards in the area.
Willy is gonna get hurt, WOW
ReplyDeleteI love Jaime vs Dean...will definitely be good....hey Patrick...man FINALLY! and Adam!I have been waiting for BOTH you guys to fight again! WHITE LIGHTNING! WHEW they just don't know! Going to be GREAT !
ReplyDeleteGO Left Hook Boxing!
Dean should hang it up! Ok, if he wins then he has to fight someone with a good record then what? He gets Knocked Out! The VA Commission should take a look at how White was destroyed in his last bout. Dean was a high level fighter at one time but now he should just hang the gloves up!
ReplyDeleteSid from Frederick
Hey Sid from Fredrick you have your right to an opinion but you are way off the mark if you think
ReplyDeleteDean is finished as a fighter.
There are reasons why some fighters
don't perform up to expetations
every time.
In the case of Deans last fight at the Patriot center he had some problems outside the ring but those problems are now corrected
and I think you will see the old Pittbull back in action on
September 15
Anon., I believe you. Dean looked great vs. Spivey at the Patriot Center (actually, my pick for fight of the year 2006), but not so much in the next Patriot Center fight.
ReplyDeleteI thank Sid from Fredrick for putting his name behind his opinion.
ReplyDeleteI do believe there is merit to that opinion. Damian Fuller is a solid boxer and Dean just couldn't get going against him. If Dean had problems outside the ring, that could definitely cause his performance to drop.
However, the record books won't indicate that and I think there should be some concerned.
Having said all that, I think both Dean and Jaime will be ready for Sept. 15 if everything comes together. You've got Jaime who has to have a lot of confidence because of his recent victories against Dean who is still in the process of proving himself.
It should be a wonderful bout.
let's all get along
ReplyDeleteI too love when people sign their name, but I also welcome the cloak to respond open and honestly without political agendas and really to go one on one with the crazy clowns who sometimes frequent your blog
ReplyDeleteLet me clarify my statement because there has been some misunderstanding.
ReplyDeleteThe concern should be that White is coming off a pretty tough loss. There is no question that White has ability. Also, the experience factor that White has against quality opposition should come into play in White's favor.
Palma is riding a wave of confidence right now. The question is will that wave be enough, because Palma has not faced the type of opposition White has.
That's what makes this bout so intriguing.
Dean White's opponent's win/loss record 154 wins 41 losses in his last 9 fights, you show me another fighter in the area who has fought the quality of opposition as Dean White. And there are still people questioning his ability.Except for that last fight against Fuller, he was in and probably should have won a majority of them. By the way that was the first time Dean White had been off his feet, Ever!
ReplyDeleteDoug From Frederick
White has boxed great quality fighters the last couple of years. Still in each of his wins and losses, he tooks some lumps especially his last bout! Fuller is a B+ fighter at best! He destroyed White on that night. In all accounts that makes White a C fighter.
ReplyDeleteIn his previous fight in WV, he looked slow and was wild and he did not have his balence. It was a close fight but I agreed with the announcer that it was a terrible fight for both fighters.
Everyone can continue to complain about bloggers stating their opinion in a positive or negative fashion about a boxer they like or dislike. This is why this site contiues to grow each day. I allows everyone to givetheir opnion regardless of race or religion.
Sometimes one should take a step back and ask themself? Should I continue to push a fighter into fighting when in fact I know he has seen his better days.
Good luck White. In this bout you should be ok but you should think about your health.
As for your Trainer and Towell boy who does not know anything about boxing, you should can them both. One can't train and the other one does not have your back. Because if he did, he would have already begged you to stop.
Thanks for this site Gary!
Sid in Frederick
Ease up on Doug, he's a good guy and he knows what he's doing. This is a good fight for Dean. He'll stop Palma.
ReplyDeleteBy the way Digital, do you know/would you mind telling exactly what happened to Neal?
ReplyDeleteRegardless, I guess it's pretty amazing that he's able to fight again.
To respond to ACW question
ReplyDeleteTommy Neal Backed off a four foot high loading dock that gave way and the 8000 puond forklift landed on top of him and crushed part of his skull and crushed his shoulder as well. After his operations he began therapy and now is back training on a regular basis.
Scott Farmer
Gary ,here are some of the names that Jaime Palma has faced.
ReplyDeleteFreddy Soto,Demetrius Hopkins,
Rodrigo Cerda, Joe Wyatt,
Edner Cherry,Rashun Parker,Americo Santos,Reggie Sanders.
I would say that Jaime's opposition has been at least as tough as Deans
Jaime Palma and Dean White fan.
Thanks Scott. Damn, sounds like it's a miracle he's even alive, much less boxing again.
ReplyDeleteHey Sid
ReplyDeleteThis is the last time I'll respond to your negative views. I might not know as much as I should know, but everyday I work with Dean I'm that much closer to where I need to be. As far as having Dean's back, I got his back 110%. Anybody who knows Dean will tell you that if he's got his mind set to fight there's only one persuasion and that's his family.
Doug from Frederick
Hello Doug From Frederick,
ReplyDeleteYou are not looking at the full picture. You are learning off of Mr. White. True. He is not learning from you. True. Even if he says he is, he is only pleasing your friendship.
Mr. Whites skills has deminished the past couple of years. Review his last 4 fights and you will see he is slower and he is not avoiding punches anymore. Yes he is tough fighter and he is durable. Although now he is fighting face first. This will eventually take its toll. Please ask your friend for a picture of him from 2002 and compare it to a picture of him today and you will then see.
This is not a blog to bash
Mr. White but only to let you and other people know that they should set down and take a hard look at their fighter and their fighters career! Is really worth it.
Ok! He wins his next fight Great. He makes $2,000 (If that)including ticket sales. The win gets him another fight at the Patroit Center and again he makes only $5000 plus possibly a percentage of tickets he sales. He then has to pay the trainer, the towell boy and then the federal and state gov't.
What is he really going to get out of this other than a couple of dollars and a couple of black eyes.
Be a man and a friend and ask
Mr. White what he expects out of this fight?
Mr. White does not need the little money they pay. He has a good career and he has a family.
Remember its all on you now. You are getting closer everyday to where you need to be? Think about that? Is this about you or
Mr. White's health?
Sid From Federick
Boxing is a tough sport, the toughest sport there is. It is the king of the individual sports. It is up to one person, and one person only, on whether a fighter should continue his career or not. And that decision ultimately lies with the fighter himself. Simple as that, case closed. If these guys get hurt, get brain damage, get killed, it is all because of a choice they made to pursue being a professional boxer. You can't blame a promoter, a manager, a corner man, a trainer, a commissioner, etc. It is ultimately all up to the boxer. I will admit that my heart goes out to every fallen fighter and every fighter that has some sort of damage because of their boxing career. But you know what? Life ain't fair! You can get killed or maimed just by walking across the street. Nobody is promised the next second, much less tomorrow. A boxer is doing what they want to do by getting in the ring. They are part athlete, part stunt man, part entertainer and they are doing what makes them happy. We should applaud their courage and respect their ability because there is nothing on earth that compares to the excitement of watching an incredible fight between two highly skilled warriors who refuse to quit and refuse to lose. You've got to love it! The Boxers love it, that's why they do it! Respect their decision!
ReplyDeleteSounds just like a promoter. What a joke! I do not agree with you. After a boxer has taken years of punishment to the brain regardless if he has won a majority of his fights, he also loses a lot of his cognitive thinking abilities.
ReplyDeleteFans tell him not to worry that this fight was just a bad fight and the next one he will do better. He fights on and eventually gets knocked out and ultimately hurt.
Congrads for helping a fighter.
You have never boxed and if you have you did not have much of a career.

Well Sid in Frederick, with that same logic, just ban the whole darn sport! While you're at it, let's ban tackling in the NFL, checking in the NHL, setting a pick in the NBA, and heading the ball in soccer, because those are all forms of physical contact in their respective sports. Boxing is the most beautiful and scientific sport there is, but professional boxing has one main goal. And that goal is to physically beat your opponent with gloved fists and render him unconscious if possible. If you don't like it, don't buy a ticket or turn the channel. If that sounds harsh to you than you're out of touch with reality. When these guys get in the ring, they know the reality of what they are doing. They know the risks.
ReplyDeleteYou are new at this game and you must be a small time promoter trying to make a buck off of old fighters. Your logic is off and everyone knows it. There come a time when a fighter needs to say enough is enough and maybe they need a push from a family member or a friend. That can't happen because promoters dangle a little money in their face and a has been fighter is back at it.
ReplyDeleteYou have no a care in the world. You must be a small time promoter from VA!
Sid (Done with this topic)
Thanks Digital.
Nope, I'm not a Promoter, and I'm not from Virginia. I'm a Libertarian and I believe in freedom of choice.
ReplyDeletehey sid how about we use pillows instead of gloves
ReplyDeleteThat's probably what those hicks in frederick use.
ReplyDeleteHey Sid it appears that you are aiming your comments at me the promoter from Virginia who hasn't been doing it very long.
ReplyDeleteTry since 1979.
Scott Farmer
As am matter of fact I was not referring to you. I do not know of you Scott Farmer. Only read your name a few times. I did make a few calls this morning and here is what I found out.
ReplyDeleteSkinny Former boxer who had a glass jaw.
Has son with good skills. Jaw tested one time, passed for now.
You don't have much money in boxing world but you try.
Working with a nutty spanish guy partner.
Puts on below average boxing shows.
Threatens people a lot.
During a bout almost got beat up by referee who is a black belt in karate.
Does not pay fighters what you promised.
Loses fighters a lot.
Was told to mention again that you had a glass jaw.
Do I need to say more?
Sid from Frederick
Libertarian. ha! What a joke!
ReplyDeleteThat's right, I am a Libertarian and proud of it! For those that don't know a Libertarian can be defined as: "Libertarianism is a political philosophy maintaining that all persons are the absolute owners of their own lives, and should be free to do whatever they wish with their persons or property, provided they allow others the same liberty." Or, as I like to put it, "Live and Let Live!" Boxing is the ultimate individual sport, it's up to the boxer and the boxer only on whether or not he wants to step between those ropes and compete. Just like it's up to you whether you want to get up every day and go to your job, or take the day off, or sleep, or watch TV, or whatever.
ReplyDeleteScott Farmer's record, courtesy of BoxRec.com. To say this is pitiful is a compliment! Pay attention to the records of the guys he fought. He NEVER beat anybody with a winning record. This guy is like the original Perry Ballard! At least Perry won most of his fights. Farmer got knocked out by nobodies!

In Scott Farmer defense, most of his fights were in the 80's and 90's when there was no official boxing records. One record that is 0-0 in fact could be 20 - 10. Boxrec is not official. Only fightfax is official approved by all boxing commissions and their accuracy is sometimes questioned.
ReplyDeleteSteve
What is the:
ReplyDelete"Original" Perry Ballard? I thought he retired?
Christopher
I too am confused about the negativity regarding Scott Farmer in this thread.
ReplyDeleteChristopher, RETIRED in boxing means something totally different...I think it really means resting until they they want to fight again. They really should come up with another term, Saboxical? Like sabatical might be more appropriate. Sid I am just curious, really not asking to be combative...why don't you tell us more about who you are and your expertise with boxing?
I'm a libertarian too. It's small-l, though, unless you're talking about the party.
ReplyDeleteI am a former Boxer from the state of California. I moved to Frederick, Maryland in 1994. I go to 6 or 7 cards a year mainly cards promoted by Scott Wagner. I have been a fan of boxing all my life.
ReplyDeleteI took too much punishment because I did not know when to stop. It was like a drug. I always thought I could win the next fight. I did not have anyone to tell me that is was over.
Now I have my own problems to deal with regarding shaking and trimbling. Boxing blogs is a great way to get a point across regardless if it is bad or good point.
I will continue to blog when I see fighters fighting past their prime and they have no chance of winning a world title.
Sid from Frederick.
I appreciate your response and it certainly gives more weight to your viewpoint. When to say enough is a huge grey area in boxing, and I have witnessed a few fighters who should have put the gloves away. But I have also witnessed some that were older and were on top of their game, so I guess unless new tests are administered or better regulations implemented, it will continue like this.
ReplyDeletewhy don't you put your opponents names up here, since you took the time to dig up scott farmer's
ReplyDeleteI'm real sorry about that Sid. But did you really think it was safe to get hit in the head? Maybe you didn't know how dangerous the sport of boxing really is. Did you have any idea that you could actually be killed in the ring? Did you know that brain cells do not regenerate and that each punch to the head, in its own right, causes brain damage that can not be reversed?
ReplyDeleteare you sid taylor who fought back in the 80's
ReplyDeleteI started when I was young boy and did not know the dangers of boxing. I love and will always lovethe art of Boxing. It is the greatest sport in the world even above all the mixed martial arts.
ReplyDeleteLinda,
That is another story in itself.
I did not post Scott Farmer's record. Someone else did. I have no reason to highlight or be-little someones actual record. I had a pretty good career. I did not make my matches, I was only a fighter.
Sid from Frederick
I faught in the 80's and the 90's.
ReplyDeleteSid from Frederick
Sid,
ReplyDeleteThat is indeed a shame, especially since you were young and didn't know the risks. I love the sport of boxing but there is absolutely no way I would let my young son box, it does more damage than people realize. When he's of age, it's up to him. But not until then! I'm not a big fan of knockouts in boxing either. You must always remember that those are human beings in there and when a guy gets knocked unconscious (or just gets hit in the head) those blows stay with them for the rest of their life. I'm convinced brain injuries are based on genetics. Some boxers show little or no wear after their careers and can sustain war after war, while others have relatively short careers and are punch drunk in their twenties and thirties. Boxing skill has a great deal to do with the avoidance of injuries. Keep that head moving, avoid punches. Or, deliver enough punishment to your opponent to weaken him to such a degree that you can take them out. It may sound brutal and barbaric, but the bottom line objective in professional boxing is to hit your opponent more than he hits you and to render him unconscious if at all possible! WOW! Now you think about that and you tell me that any single one of you have the nerve to call any boxer that steps between those ropes a bum? We should respect them all from the 4 round prelim guy who "can't fight a lick" to the undisputed champ. They are all warriors in my book and they are doing what they love to do! Sid in Frederick, stay strong brother!
Scott nFarmer never claimed to be a great fighter but to say he had a glass jaw well, your way off the mark. All but one of those stopages came from cuts.
ReplyDeleteShows just how much you don't know.
You obviously are one of those people who nobody will listen to so
you have to try to get somebody to listen to you on this blog.
People like you are pathetic.
Glass jaw, soft face, what's the difference! He still got hit because the fact of the matter is he wasn't a very good fighter at all. The real shame is his level of competition. If Greg Haugen said Chavez fought a bunch of Tijuana cab drivers, then Farmer fought a bunch of Virginia pig farmers. You're the one who is pathetic!
ReplyDeletewhy can't people on this blog show respect for the fighter's that get in the ring one on one to entertain us the fans. there are some f***** up people on this site.
ReplyDeletesid
ReplyDeleteyou say you don't "have any reason to highlight or be-little someone's actual record" but you talk trash about a fighter who had the guts to follow his dream, just because your career didn't pan out the way you expected it don't cry foul, because there are alot of other fighter's who have benefitted greatly by their success.
Guess I'll respond to the comments from Sid from fredrick (although I don't think there is such a person).
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that this guy has alot of information from he said, they said we said.
He said he made a phone call and found out about my fight career,
and a number of other issues in my life.
So I will respond to his allegations.First about my fight career. Was I great fighter? No .
I wasn't even a good one. I would take ten punches to give one.but I sold a ton of tickets and never pulled out of fights on a promoter.
I will guess he says I have a glass jaw because I was stopped in six fights.Five of them were because of cuts not being knocked out.
Second issue! He says I promote less than average boxing shows.
If you have never been to one of my shows how the heck do you know?
The bouts are competative people keep mcoming back and always ask when is the next show.
The next issue, You say I threaten people alot.
Thats just a fabricated lie that you threw in there for good luck.
The next issue is that I don't pay fighters what I promise.
How do you justify saying that.
The association of boxing commissioners requires that there
must be a contract for every fight
before that bout is allowed to happen and on that contract the amount being paid the fighter must be included. you don't like the numbers you don't have to fight.
I have never had this issue come up ,not even one time. Just another fabricated lie thrown in for good measure.
Next issue is that I lose alot of fighters.
Another lie, give me some names? I have people that have been with me since they were eight years old and they are now 21 and I'm not talking about the Doo Man.I have people coming to my gym from Fairfax,Falls church, and Manassas
and thats seventy miles one way.
I don't have a problem getting fighters or keeping them .
In summary, I wasn't that great as fighter but I'm honest and put on good shows and I'm better at training fighters than I ever was
as a fighter. And if you liked that show you saw perry Ballard on in winchester then you would really like the shows We do.
Scott Farmer
Scott, I'm with you and Andrew. God Bless. Honest you have always been. Truth be known, Jumpin Joe Cooper has love for you as well (I've heard him say it.)
ReplyDeleteSkinnyscott
(insults and bogus accusations welcome)
Bravo Scott! Best reply to negative comments I have seen on here. I too have heard the Coop speak highly of you.
ReplyDeleteThis is why this site should go national. I used to use my hands to punch people and now I use my hands to somehow upset people! I was always told, when someone talks about you and it is not true then you should not reply. It is very funny that you Mr. Farmer replied to everything mentioned about you even the posts from other bloggers than mine.
ReplyDeleteAlthough for one to post that a fighter should follow his dream is ludicrous. One of my origanal posts was to Doug to explain to his friend to give it up or he will end up with brain damage and then it went from there. You got defense thinking one was talking about you as a promoter!
You even said you took 10 punches to give 1. That is basically what is happening to Mr. Dean White. The days will come when you both get the shacks, trimbles, mood swing and forgetfulness to things like what I am I doing and why am I driving in PA.
Let these fighters continue on taking beating for little money and thay will follow me and other fighters down a lonely dark road.
Your reply was not to defend yourself as a boxer or promoter but to try and keep what dignity you have left as a person.
Your repatation as a boxer and a promoter stays the same with me. According to the boxrec post from an unidentifide post suggest you were an average fighter and as a promoter it seems that you are average also. I have never been to one of your shows and probably never plan to make a trip to VA for one of your shows.
To all fighters who read this. Sign a contract for every fight including selling tickets at a percentage put in the contract.
Off into the sunset until the next blog.
Sid From Frederick.
Sid ,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all Scott Farmer Must reply to these crazy comments because he is trying to protect the image and respect of the boxing community!!! If you only knew what scott farmer has been thru to help local fighters, and local boxing you would shut your damn mouth!! I have personally witnessed this man dig in his own pocket to give fighters, trainers, etc. money when they're in a bad spot. How many people do you know that would just give someone( even people he doesn't really know) money like that? I have also witnessed Scott Farmer Extend his home to fighters when they have needed a place to stay.Bottom line is, Scott Farmer is a good man who is trying to build the sport of boxing up, and all you can do is put him down for it! If you know so damn much why don't you go thru all the headache of training, promoting and raising fighters just as Scott Farmer has and is still doing? Better Yet Why don't you go and get a new federal ID and present a challenge if you think he has a glass jaw?? That would be interesting! If you really have been in this great sport of boxing than you should have more respect than that.
- Andrew "DooMan" Farmer
Hey Andrew, I've seen you fight a few times and you really look like a good prospect. When are you fighting again? Also, Sid makes some good points, fighters should not hang on too long in the sport of boxing. As far as money is concerned, Scott Farmer made a good point when he basically said money for shows is limited and if a fighter doesn't like the money they're being offered they don't have to sign the contract or take the fight. Amen to that. For the record, I've been to several of Scott Farmer's shows and 1 was just awful while another was excellent! I say keep up the good work, I'll be there!
ReplyDeleteDear Sid From Federick or whomever you are?????
ReplyDeleteThis is-Scotts working with a nutty spanish guy partner.Which is untrue. I help however I can.I am not a partner. A promotion needs a lot of logistics and people to make it work. (including fans).Because I have never had promotional experience and was trying to play out of my leauge to promote a card that never happened in 2005.Mr. Scott Farmer did try to help me to not explode as I crashed & burned on my first experience.I did have others on this blog also who encouraged me to reconsider. Scott put his neck out there to help me.It did fail & I did lose several thousand dollars. But Scott was trying to help.So I would help Scott for free because I love boxing and am learning another aspect of boxing. This could be considered NUTTY.
I have won at the amateur level
I have been a finalist twice at Jerrys toughman.
I have a professional job.
I am not a coward behind a keyboard using alias nicknames.
If everyone would work together Beltway Boxing could be an area to help boxing come back.
Mario
I have to chime in on this topic. I agree that Sid brings up interesting points and (in my humble opinion) is right more than wrong. That said, Scott Farmer is a man of character. I personally know of a number of occasions when he has dug in his pocket and helped out fighters who were down on their luck. This includes fighters whose careers were long over and who could probably never pay Scott back. Scott does a great job with his promotions and always pays. A lot of times with these smaller shows, I've realized that the "promoters" are also the matchmakers and trainers of the fighters involved. Take Han Kim, Jake Smith, and Joe Hensley for example. ALL of those guys get down and dirty and are involved in every aspect of their shows. These gentlemen are the hardest working people on our local boxing scene. Quite different and more challenging than the bigger shows in DC, Glen Burnie, and The Patriot Center where the matchmaker does the matchmaking, the promoter does the promoting, on down the line. These guys do it for the love of the sport, nor do they have the budget. Once again, Sid is correct on a number of levels but I think to criticize Scott is unfair and a bit misdirected. Bravo bloggers!
ReplyDeleteBoxing Fan,
Mike Sawyer
Sid, Very disappointed that you would criticize Scott's show and You have never been to one! That just blows my mind. When you make statements like that it's just hearsay and speculative. Bet you never like a movie that the critics don't all gush over. Everyone talks about how brave it is to step in the ring...you should see the Promoter's Lion's Den in the trenches of just trying to maintain all the elements to ensure the show's a go and everyone's happy and you don't lose your house in the process. Why don't you spend a day with Scott or any of the other promoters in the area before you so flippantly pull judgement out your behind and make statements that are groundless, because you didn't even bother to go to find out first hand. I actually d-double dare you to. It would be interesting to see what you would say. You should change your blog name to "Poser"
ReplyDeletedamn sid two challenges in one day!
ReplyDeletewhat's you gonna do?
Well, by his logic...if what we said is untrue he will be a man...and say nothing...therefore in his mind making what we say untrue...twisted. So the good thing as long as we call the kettle black and it thinks it is we will have peace from Mr. Poser Sid.
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree Sid brought up some very valid points, but he lost me at finding fault without even a hello to who he is attempting to malign.
ReplyDeleteI like your logic Linda, well said.
