Amateur Boxing At Old School Gym August 31!

The Potomac Valley Association and Keystone Productions are hosting an amateur boxing show at the Old School Boxing Gym, 7466 Old Alexander Ferry Road in Clinton, MD, on Friday, August 31.

Amateurs from around the Beltway will face off against boxers from Florida, New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia.

Admission will be 10 dollars for adults and five dollars for children 12 and under.

On another amateur note, I'm trying to get audio interviews with the three Beltway Boxers heading to the Olympic Trials in Houston -- Gary Russell Jr., Dominic Wade and Fernando Guerrero. Hope to have those by the end of the week.

  4. gary, thank you for continuing to keep the boxing community abreast of both amateur and professional boxing events. your blog is great and it is a shame that other cities don't have local support of boxers in the same fashion. i imagine many dc/md/va boxing fans visit your blog more frequently than the paid subscription boxing websites, at least i do. which makes me beg the question, could your site be duplicated for other cities? do you have any idea how much traffic your generate? I think fightnews.com which you write for should be interested to franchise your blog idea to the other writers of other cities around the country. I am only saying this because I feel you should be paid for the time and effort you put into the site. It wouldn't bother me to see some advertisements if I knew it was reimbursement for your worthwhile work. boxing does not get enough press in the local papers or local tv, so why not spread the blog revolution?

  7. Gary I look forward to another classic interview.I tell you this area wouldn't be much of anything as far as boxing is concern without Boxing Along The Beltway.

  10. about damn time someone had a show with reasonable prices.
    Rosecroft was $40.00
Juice's Show is $25.00 at the door
    Jake's show is $35.00

    ReplyDelete
  11. Rosecroft-Juice and Jakes show are professional shows, that is why they cost more dummy.
Amatuer shows are always $10.00 at the most. Plus pro shows have drinks and half-naked ring card girls.

  12. August 31st, show is having 30 bouts in two different rings at the same time. Only winners will receive championship belts. I spoke to Raymond and he works at Paul & Mikes. They too are putting up the team tropphy award.

  13. How are you Linda? Wow there giving out Championship Belts now I would like to fight on that card.

  14. Anon,

Thank you so much for the praises and great comments. Much appreciated!

Actually, there are a few boxing sites around the country that focus on boxing in a particular area. I have considered the possibility of linking to those sites.

There are sites that cover Minnesota, Philadelphia/New Jersey, the Pacific Northwest, Los Angeles and Florida. I have been in contact with Jesse Kelley in Minnesota and Randy Hammonds in Florida as they are former Fightnews.com reporters.

We've exchanged info and ideas. Speaking truthfully, their sites visually look better than mine, but I provide more up-to-date info than they do, plus I think the audio interviews add a certain touch. But they all do a great job.

I haven't been able to do a lot with advertisements yet, but that is a possibility for the future.

Thanks again for the comments. Thanks also to Richard and Linda for their nice words.

  15. Gary,

Do you have any information on the bouts at SRL next weekend August 24 & 25? I hear they are giving out tattoos. I think this is a first. Is this safe?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I have not heard anything about the card at SRL.

Also, the Mayor's Cup is supposed to be this weekend at Kennedy Playground but I haven't received details on that one either.

I want to publicize the amateur shows, even if I can't go to every one of them like the pro shows.

They have to give me the info, though!

  17. My daughter who is only 15 swears she is getting a tattoo at Sugar Rays Boxing show next week. If she does, I will have someones ass in court. Why are they doing tattoos at a boxing match anyway? I never heard of such a thing.

  18. Puffy Combs you are so right. It's amazing that a star like you chats here with us common folks. I want an autograph and a picture with you this weekend.

  22. Tattoos? Rap Battles? It's about time I get my $25.00 worth.
I love it. Something new and I am excited as can be. I will get me a pair of gloves tattooed on me if the price is right. Are these professional tattooist or amatuers?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I hear the tattoo people are from off Da Hook in Se Dc. They are known for doing good work.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Is this permanent tattos or temporary tattoos. I don't see a problem if it's temporary tattoos. I would get one.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Either way innovative idea, generating a lot of enthusiams and interest. Although as a parent I would come down and box someone's ears if my kid came home with a tattoo. I am sure if they are doing the real deal, and they are dealing with minors, they have the parents sign release forms.

  26. those bad boys are real, $50.00 alone for just a name. I spoke to Slick

  27. i bet juice gets half of the tattoo money too

  28. Well it is Juices show, he should get some of the tattoo money.

    ReplyDelete
  29. i want a snake killing an eagle.
tattooed on my forearm. does anyone know how much it will cost me

    ReplyDelete
  30. I have been told by Juice himself that there will be NO, repeat, NO tattoos done at his show.

Apparently, the group that is performing at intermission requested to do tattoos and Juice said no.

Those who want tattoos will have to look elsewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well I am looking at this flyer and it says they will be doing tattoos. Real slick idea Juice just to sell tickets. My sister was very excited and wanted a tattoo badly. she will not be coming now!
