Beltway Boxers Have Opponents for Upcoming Cards!

Let's start close to home where the opponent for Culpepper, VA cruiserweight Bobby Gunn's appearance at Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield, VA on Saturday, August 25 has changed.

Gunn reportedly will now face Chris Mills of Scranton, PA. Mills comes in with a record of 26-3-1, 22 KO's. Mills is winless in his last two bouts, losing by first-round knockout to Cullen Rogers on February 23 in Scranton in his last outing on the undercard of Darnell Wilson-Kelvin Davis.

An opponent has also been found for former world heavyweight champ Hasim Rahman for his bout on September 7 in Mount Pleasant, MI. Rahman will take on veteran "The Raging Bull" Dicky Ryan of Omaha, NE.

Ryan (55-9, 44 KO's) is a 20-year veteran of the fight game, beginning his career in 1987. Rahman is the fifth former world heavyweight champion that Ryan has fought during his boxing tenure, joining the likes of James "Buster" Douglas, Vitali Klitschko, Nikolai Valuev and, in his last bout, Shannon Briggs who stopped Ryan in the fourth round on March 18, 2006 in Fort Smith, AK. This 10-round bout will be televised on the Versus network.

Gary, George Rivera vs Lawrence Jones, is that fight still happening? thats gonna be the fight of the night. And Baymunk, that Mongolian kid, is he still on the show?

As far as I know, the only change on the August 25 Springfield card is the opponent for Gunn.

Every other bout is still the same, as of right now.

Hey Richard,

Haven't had a chance to incorporate the info.

Gary and everyone here at BATB,
Baymunk will not be on the show. Something really heavy droped on his head at the work yesterday and I heard that his skull had opened. His trainer Willie Taylor told me that Baymunk had 9 staples (not 9 stitches) in his head. I dont know if he can ever box again, thats tragic ! I was really looking forward to see the kid. I wish him good luck with rest of his life. Han Kim-

I was looking forward to seeing him. We pray for him...Han, please keep us posted and let us know if there is anything he needs that we are able to help with. Stay strong Han.

Han,

I echo Linda's statements. I'll be talking to you soon about this.

Damn, that's a real shame. Besides the obvious fact that it sucks to have that happen, his career may be over before it really got started, and he had tons of potential. My prayers are with him.

Why is it tha gun camp is always fighting such type a fighters as this mills guy? in 3 months mills will be 40. mills has fought 4 times in 4 years and only won 1 of those fights and he is a career light heavyweight. mills got knocked out in one round by a bum (cullen 8-15) in feb this year. what are gun and his team so afraid of that there guy can not take a pounch? surle there are other fights that can be made insteaed of this garbage.

I knew it was only a matter of time before some cowardly assshole talked shit about Gunn like they do about all the other Beltway boxers. Bobby Gunn (one of the kindest and gentlest people I've ever met) is on the rebound from a crushing 1st round KO loss in a world title attempt. He needs to rebuild. This is a perfect fight for him at this stage. The guy has a good record and probably can fight a little. good matchmaking by Han Kim. Gunn probably has a 80% chance of winning. That's how you build a fighter up. Good job Han, go Bobby Gunn!

What about Juan Carlos Robles or Mike Dietrich for Bobby Gunn? Local cruisers which should make for a good fight. What about William "The Storm" Bailey for Bobby Gunn? He's a good fighter despite his record. Don't sell Chris Mills short, he could always punch and even though he's older I'm sure he can still punch. I think this is a good fight!

Deitrich is in jail and Bailey already has a fight scheduled. Han and Jake are in touch. If a fight between the fighters above makes sense, it'll happen.

Dietrich will get out of jail soon. He's 10 and 0. Juan Carlos Robles is 9 and 0. Bobby Gunn has more experience at 17 and 3 but really hasn't fought anyone of note. If there another cruiserweight in the area that fits the picture for rising prospect? If there is, let's have a tournament. Or a round robin, or something. What about Willis Lockett (7-4), William Bailey (7-12) but far better than that, who else? Digital, I know that you talked about a Supercard, and as big of a boxing fan as I am, I think that is nearly impossible to happen. But this cruiserweight tournament of young prospects who have ties to local promoters, now that is something that should be doable! What do you think? Who have I left off the list from the area at cruiserweight?

I just did some research on Boxrec and here are some more cruisers from the area:

Terry Roy (5-0)Front Royal, VA
Jaywon Woods (4-0) Danville, VA
Patrick Budd (1-0)Virginia?
William Bailey (7-12) Portsmouth, VA

Adam Seal (3-1) Caroline, VA
Ibn Ali (10-2) Winchester, VA
Gary Campbell (8-8) Richmond, VA

A lot of these guys are younger and don't really fit a tournament that would include:

Bobby Gunn 17-3
Juan Carlos Robles 9-0
Mike Dietrich 10-0

I would say the 4th slot should go to either:

William Bailey (7-12)
Ibn Ali (10-2)
Willis Lockett (7-4)

Maybe I'm just getting excited about nothing, just trying to have some fun and put a bug in the local promoter's ear.

Linda "Great Shot" Siadys said...

You are on the right track, that list is definitely ammo for excitement! I am really looking forward to Patrick Budd's next fight. I thought he was very impressive. I think a "Cruisin' Along the Beltway" would be one explosive card. Additionally some of these guys have some very unique personalities and charisma that would only add to the draw.

If it don'y make dollars, it don't make $en$e. If it does, all of these managers and promoters have easchothers numbers. that said, fights like this need to build.

"If it don't make dollars, it don't make $en$e"

Ah yes, I've heard Discombobulating say that before.

Linda "Great Shot" Siadys said...

Stop making sense! Ho HUM! Agree, promoters it's ultimately up to you to join hands and make it happen. I am curious does anyone know of any promoters from different cities/states anywhere that have united and produced memorable profitable shows?

Anonymous said...

Don't count T-brick Roy out of anything.
Not alot of experience but finds a way to win , and is developing a
rather large following.

The money these guys are gonna ask for to fight each other is definitely gonna make it an unprofitable event. And these promoters are not in the business of charity.
