That is a pretty lousy group of opponents. The Maryland commission is starting to look like the VA commission. It used to be that they would not approve that low a level of opposition. This is a pathetic show.
I dont think Mike Dietrich is fighting. I heard he is in jail for the next two years. Violated probation.
I have been assured that Dietrich WILL be on the card tonight. I have also heard that rumor and will try to get word at some point tonight.
I know for a fact that Mike Dietrich is in jail and wont be at the fight tonight. Unless he breaks out.... The Nicklow-Mayes fight seems to be a consolation to the fans. Never trust a "Snake".

Ironically, before Dietrich was stabbed in December of 2005, a matchup between Dietrich and Phipps was being talked about heavily.
Both guys were pretty much on an upswing in their careers, even though Dietrich only had about five fights at that time.
Now that Dietrich is at 10-0, it's not a fight Dietrich HAS to take. Phipps would need the bout more than Dietrich does, because Phipps has been up and down in the recent part of his career.
Having said that, it would be a nice bout for the area!

There were 2 amature fights which consisted of 3 blacks and 1 white.
1st fight had 2 blacks.
2nd fight had 2 blacks.
3rd fight had 1 black 1 white
4th fight had 1 black/hispanic 1 white
5th fight had 1 black 1 white.
Thats 10 black fighters and 4 white. Go figure. Jake also promoted a black amature fighter on his poster. go cry somewhere else.
EVERYONE knows Jake's fights consistently showcase good boxers, of all ethnicity. Baltimore Boxing doesn't need to validate it's integrity to this racist who sullies this blog with his asinine groundless accusations.

Gary this is Wade Duncan from Mack Lewis gym Jake Smith dosen't call on any fighter's that he think's will get more fan base than any of his fighter's that's all the fan's are talking about here .I know you see it and yes you have been fair but I understand this is n't your call . When we were fighting back and the 90"s we couldn't fight any one with a sub-500 record but Pat keep's letting Jake get by with it can't understand all this padding kid's record's let's fight see who the better man is not build your record 15-0 than get knock off . when was the last md-state title fight Tony Thompson . You are right! There is a different mindset. You are a good example of that because early in your career, Wade, you fought Curtis "Dynamite" Peoples to a tough draw at the Teamsters Hall in Baltimore.
There weren't too many fighters back in the 90's who fought sub-500 record guys unless those boxers were guys who had been in there with other tough guys. I'm talking about fighters like Horace Watterson, Calvin Moody and Benji Singleton.
You also have to remember that back then, there was a lot of fabrication about those guys records. Watterson, for example, might be listed and announced as 8-6, but everyone knew he hadn't had eight wins in his career and probably had closer to 12 losses at that point. The problem was, there was no documentation to prove it.
Now everyone has to be correct and legal. So the true records have to come out.
In other words, this has always been a part of boxing, but now we can't hide it anymore.
As far as Stu Satosky, he retired from the sport a few years ago. One of the best promoters ever in this area!

Although Mike is going through a difficult time in his presonal life, and his brother Johnny is not home right now. When Johnny is home he will attempt to help Mike through his daily struggles and life .Because anyone who knows Johnny knows he loves Mike very much!!

I think the writer may be trying to add some inside personal information on Mike. I don't have a lot of problems with it, as long as the information is not trashy.
Some people don't do well in boxing because there are a lot of outside influences creeping in. This person may be saying that Mike will do better once his life outside boxing straightens out.
Also, it would help if the person you are talking about KNOWS you are going to talk about the private life.

I'll say this much:
If Dietrich has a good performance against William Bailey on August 25 in Ocean City, he'll change some people's minds.
Bailey is easily the most experienced guy Dietrich has fought. That will be a very interesting contest.
Anyone who feels the need to come on this site and trash talk Mike Dietrich or Jake should really take some time and get to know both of these indivduals. First and foremost Jake is a very talented promoter and he does his best to ensure that all the fights are evenly matched as possible.Has anyone ever thought that trying to find someone for Dietrich is a daunting task? Would you want your fighter to go against a guy thats has Dietrichs abilities? Probably not. Jake has done so much for the boxing community in Maryland and yet there are still a few indiviuals that feel the need to complian about his character. Anyone that knows Jake knows that he has gone through many trails and tribulations with Dietrich.He has trained Dietrich for many years and they have a very special and close bond. There needs to be more trainers and friends like Jake in this world. I firmly belive that under Jakes guidance Dietrich will evently hold a world title.Instead of all negative comments,lets try to get behind Jake and support him as much as possible and help Dietrich overcome the obstacles that he faces. Mike hold your head up high and be proud of all that you have accomplished. Adversity is a part of life. You have two older brothers and a sister that love you very much. Keep training hard and follow Jakes lead you will a world champ in no time.
