Jimmy Lange Hosts Diego Corrales Benefit July 26 in Arlington!

I mentioned this in passing on a recent Gabcast Post-Fight Wrap-Up, but now I have details on this event.

Newly-crowned WBC Continental Americas Junior Middleweight champion Jimmy Lange will be hosting a benefit boxing event on Thursday, July 26 at the Doubletree Hotel Crystal City in Arlington, VA.

The event, a joint promotion between Jimmy Lange Enterprises and Jackie Kallen's Ice Promotions (who promoted the rematch between Lange and Fontaine Cabell on May 12), will raise funds for the family of the late Diego "Chico" Corrales, whom Lange sparred with a few years ago while both trained in Vero Beach, FL.

"Diego Corrales was a blood and guts warrior who I had a great deal of respect for," Lange said in a statement. "He was one of the few current boxers who, win or lose, always left everything out there at the end of the day. I look forward to honoring him as we help raise funds for his family."

There will also be live music by the popular New York-based band Emil Stucchio and The Classics, who recorded such hits as "Till Then," "P.S. I Love You," and "You'll Never Know."

Less than 500 tickets are available for this event that begins at 6 pm with a cocktail hour. The doors will open at 7 pm. There will be up to four bouts on the card that will feature boxers from throughout the Beltway. If you want tickets for table seats (that include a three-course dinner), those tickets are $350, $250 and $175. There are a limited number of $75 tickets (admission only). To purchase tickets, call (703) 536-6060.

What washed up bum is Lange going to fight now?
Great to see you shadow every move Lange makes.
I am sure he will bw at the local grocery store next week. Maybe you should show up and write about it.

Benifit?
How much money did Corrales make?

Yea. benifit who? Lang and the rest of his crooked crew I bet. What garbage. The music looks worse.

In case you haven't noticed or are new to this blog, I try to shadow every move EVERY Beltway Boxer makes in this area as best I can.

No where in this story did I say Jimmy Lange would be fighting on the card. In fact, he will not be fighting on this card.

The fact that Lange is involved with this is a great gesture. If some Beltway Boxer had put on a benefit (the actual spelling) for boxers like Reuben Bell, Bee Scottland and Jerry Ballard, maybe their families would be in better shape. Those guys did not make nearly the money Corrales made, nor did they have the fame.

At least in the Scottland case, promoters in the area stepped forward, but boxers did not put their names to benefit situations, at least publicly. Hopefully they did it privately.

As for the music, if you are a fan of music from the late 50's-early 60's, you'll like this group.

Hey Digital, Good Point!

I think your last writer was saying give to someone who needs it.

I don't think he/she was knocking the past benefit shows for the local fighters.

Also, Corrales really does not have a connection here in this area other than sparring with Lang.

This is all about J L being
Mr. Good guy gets in the paper.

Jimmy Lange gave his entire purse from his first televised fight to Bee Scottland's family.

Hey Gary give the b-more guy's the same respect that you give Va, and DC fighter's I think this is a good website but no one's talk about Pettway who can't see and very slow walking around, what about Mr. Mack Lewis come on no talk about the Md. fighter's you are a joke. What about Nick Collins who KO a guy from OH. that had 125 am fight's 10 lost never seen any thing about that kid. Let a DC-VA. fighetr do that he would be a hero. Just give the Md beltway guy's the same website time.

After all the pump I have given Samuel, Arvin, Coleman, Collins, Cummings, not to mention Paschall, Cygan, Nicklow, Dietrich and Bloom, I think my record of talking well about the Baltimore fighters speaks for itself. Take a look at the archives now and then.

I had heard about Lange and Rahman working with the Scottland family but didn't talk to them personally about it during that time, so I couldn't go on the record. Again, they did this privately, so that is fine.

Lang is as phony a fighter and a man as they come. His best fights are clearly behind him and with his career circling the drain, he needs some good pr. He would be better off doing something honest than trying to pump up his rep with a benefit that I am sure he takes some nice chunk of. His picture is in the dictionary next to the definition of "sleezeball".

Charles Clark beat the shit out of Jimmy over DC but they robbed Charles cause they were building Jimmy I agree he will steal some of that money.

Gary keep giving us the news on what's going on with our fighters in the area. As far as the Baltimore/DC thing goes, let's just say those who are worth reporting about will get the press, regardless of location. Gary is fair about that.

If Jimmy wants to go and throw a benefit for Chico, that's his perogative. Good for him. Heck, I might even go. I don't hate on anyone, regardless of their true intentions.

Now as far as Rahman is concerned, it's no secret to anyone who has boxed professional or even spent quality time in the gym that Rahman did not pay Adrian Davis what he was supposed to get. As a matter of fact, I know for a FACT that A.D has gotten the short end of the stick many times by local fighters. There was an article writen in the Washington Post some time ago that tells that story.

Again, I am not a hater, but I think the people deserve to hear the unbiased truth about this game called boxing. If you don't want to hear the truth, then let Gary do his job and report. Otherwise some things may come out in cyberspace that should remain in the gyms.
