Gary Russell Jr. Story Continues in Washington Times!

Check out today's edition of The Washington Times for another good story in the Gary Russell, Jr. series.

The Times has been following Russell as he tries to make the US Olympic team. Writer Mike Jones talks about Russell's performance in the recent US Championships in Colorado Springs, CO and tells why Russell had to drop out after his quarterfinal bout.

The reason he dropped out is because of Ronnie Rios. In fact, I do not blame him at all for dropping out. He has already quailfied for the chance to represent in 2008. Why take chance on a kid (Rios) who is expected to win the Gold. Russell can get back in the gym and train harder. Why take a chance on a guy who can bang like Rios? Russell did the smart thing by dropping out of the tournement. He was not scared! He was being smart. Remember this guy Rios won the GG nationals 3 times, plus he beat David Clark twice alone in the last year. I bet David Clark would have did the smart thing too and pulled out. He got destroyed by Rios. So all of you people who thinks Russell was scared-you got it wring-he was just being smart. He still has a chance now. He does not have to wait till 2012. By the way, Allen Russell was robbed out there. How in the hell can you get a score of 21 to 8 aginst Allen Russel when he is actullly better than Gary at the Moment. Both of those brothers will be the WBA, WBo world champs within 3 years. They are the best boxers that ever came out of B-more, Maryland, Va, Dc yet. I was there in GreatNeck when Gary stopped his guy in the 3rd, and everyone thought Gary was too young. Gary showed them all. He will do it again to oneday, you watch and see. Rios will probably turn pro anyway. In 2009. I spoke with Hank Ritchie and he predicts the brother will follow the footsteps of the Peters Brothers and they will be just as exciting as them. I think so too. The Ruseells will reach the top, they been boxing all of their lifes.
I remember when they was 5 years old boxing at Sugar Rays. They would always win and will contuinue to do so
