Two Beltway Boxers advanced to tonight's semifinals of the National Golden Gloves competition in Chattanooga, TN.
Oxon Hill, MD's Alexander Johnson advanced to the 178-pound semis with a 3-2 victory over Terrell Gausha of Cleveland, OH. Johnson will take on Siju Shabazz of Las Cruces, NM in the semifinals.
Also, despite losing a bout during the preliminary round, Tyler Turner of DC won his quarterfinal bout in the Super Heavyweight decision, 4-1 over Jesse Barboza of Hyannis, MA. Turner will take on Jonte Willis of Tacoma, WA in the semifinals.
A number of Beltway amateurs did not advance to the semis. This includes 165-pounder Dominic Wade of Largo, MD, who lost to Willie Monroe, Jr. of Rochester, NY 4-1.
Heavyweight Jose Mario Flores of DC also failed to move into the final four by dropping a 4-1 decision to Deontay Wilder of Tuscaloosa, AL.
And flyweight Larry Tumlin of DC was stopped in the second round by Joseph Francisco of Chattanooga, TN.
