A slew of Virginia boxers will be featured on the Saturday, May 12 boxing card at the George Mason University Patriot Center.
The resurgent Alexandria junior welterweight Jaime "The Punisher" Palma is scheduled to take on Philadelphia, PA's Lenny "The Hitman" DeVictoria for the Tri-State Junior Welterweight title. Palma has won his last four bouts to raise his record to 11-10-1, two KO's. DeVictoria (8-8, two KO's) has lost five in a row.
Also scheduled to be on the show are undefeated Alexandria junior welterweight Kay Koroma and Vienna junior middleweight "Irish" Mike Carrigan (both 3-0, two KO's)
Quick note about the Carrigan Family: Mike's brother Sean, was a boxer who stopped to become an actor. Sean Carrigan won NBC's reality series "The Next Action Star" and now can be seen in the popular GEICO "Caveman" ad campaign.
Also on this card will be two Virginia super middleweights who will make their pro debuts against each other. Tim Scache of Alexandria will battle Tracey Brewer of Arlington.
Former IBF Light Heavyweight champ William Guthrie will also battle on this card. Guthrie (35-4-2, 28 KO's) is now fighting as a cruiserweight and is trying to bounce back from a loss in January.
Guthrie, who lives in Jupiter, FL, has never fought here before, but he did co-promote a card at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro in 2000. Guthrie is in the same training camp as Jimmy Lange, who faces Fontaine Cabell in a rematch for the WBC Continental Americas Junior Middleweight title in the main event on the May 12 card.

This show should be called "The Night of the Journeyman".
With all the folks that come out to see these shows, you would think that an effort would be made to bring in some first class talent. This is the perfect opportunity to build fans by showing them some good up and coming fighters or even just some very very good talent. Who wants to see William Guthrie at cruiserweight? It must be a paid for fight. And Kay Karoma is talented but the word on the street is that he should not be fighting at all. Then you roll out Jaime Palma , "resurgent"? against whom is he resurgent? Lets see him fight someone who can breathe. And finally the main event Lange v. Cabell. Oh my goodness, I had Cabell winning the first one, as did most of the crowd that was not a blind Lang fan. It just strikes me as sad with all that dough rolling in, why the promoter does not make a little bit more of an effort to put on some credible guys. Gee, I guess I answered my own question --allthe money has to go to Lang. Oh well, its a sad show and eventually the Va. audience will get smart and show that they want a little more for their buck.
You know what, for $15 ($10 student discount), I don't really care who they bring in, as long as the fights are good. Digital, what do you think? Should the fighte be good?
What do you mean, Kay Koroma should not be fighting? What do you mean by that?
Who's Guthrie gonna fight? I know a couple of local cruisers that would probably take it to him. Juan Carlos Robles is one. Willis Lockett is another. Derek Amos and William Bailey would have a good shot against Guthrie. I wonder who it's going to be?
It's a good show and I'm sure all of the local guys move a decent number of tickets. That's how boxers get spots on shows in most cases, not necessarily because they're talented. That's just the way it is for non-televised boxing.
You know something else. To anonymous who called this show "The Night of the Journeyman", if the promoters put on a show with some Top 10 ranked guys in several of the spots and didn't have the local guys (including Lange) on the show, the crowd wouldn't be half the size.
Lenny DeVictoria's last five fights were against good opposition, I wouldn't over look this kid at all, his last 5 opponents win/lose record is 87 wins 35 loses, he's a tough kid. This could turn out to be a good fight.
No, the DeVictoria fight against Palma won't be a good fight. DeVictoria is going to crush Palma. I saw DeVictoria on ShoBox in a losing effort and he's just on a different level than Palma. DeVictoria will knock Palma out!
The point I was trying to make is that Devictoria is not a bum.I've never seen Palma fight so I can't judge him, but Gary made the point that he won four in a row, so I would assume he's a decent fighter, but I guess you never assume anything, especially in boxing!!
The Palma-DeVictoria bout will be a good one because you have two guys that have seen their careers go in a similar direction.
Both guys have taken a number of bouts on short notice and they have been mismatched early in their career.
I saw the DeVictoria bout on ShoBox and yes he is tough.
I've also seen all four recent bouts where Palma has been victorious. He is markedly improved from the fighter I saw get his head handed to him by Roshun Parker in DC three years ago.
This is a pick-em fight because DeVictoria has fought well in those five losses but he didnt win them. Palma has won four straight, but he hasn't fought winning competition. This can go either way.
Palma is a bumb. The reason why he lost those fights were cleary because he can't fight. I don't know why excuses such as "he was mismatched" are even being used. clearly he should be on the sideline with his manager(the ladie that calls herself Marvin Gaye's widow). The both have something in common. Not knowing much about boxing. Kay-very good fighter. Just started becoming an active, however would like to see him more.

I've got to disagree with you and I'm sure we'll both agree that that's okay. Palma is like 7UP, never had it, never will. DeVictoria is a better fighter. Is he a world class fighter? NO. This is a 3 round fight max. with DeVictoria dominating from the opening bell while Palma gets his butt kicked. I've got to agree with the guy who said Koroma is pretty good. I think he may be right. He's also right about Carrigan. I saw that guy in Winchester and he couldn't bust a grape. Talk about careful handling. To think this guy is 3 and 0 with 3 KO's? I didn't know there were that many bums in boxing.
That is definitely okay to disagree. As long as we do it in an agreeable manner.
Dean White will be boxing on this card, May 12th. I understand that he has an offer to fight on the ESPN event on the 27th. I don't think it can be worked out, howerer
To the person who said Cabell beat Lange last match I think you need to spend more money and get a seat closer to the ring. You missed a lot.
How could it be possible to fight on a card on the 27th of April and fight again on the 12th of May? You show me a promoter who would agree to that and I'll show you a stupid promoter.

As far as I know, Dean is set for the May 12 show at the Patriot Center. I have heard nothing about Dean being on the April 27 show.
