For those who missed the October 7th Major League Boxing show from the Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA, you can now see video from the event on Google Video and Blogger!
Yours truly was honored to do the play-by-play for the video and "The Fight Doctor" Jerome Spears (on right in picture) provided expert color commentary.
The first uploaded clip is the 4 round heavyweight slugfest between Waynesboro, VA's Juan Carlos Robles and Dumfries, VA's Derek "D-Mos" Amos plus a preview of the entire night of action You can watch these videos in several ways.

Yup...I truly only throw compliments out flippantly to those I like, but "Digital" and the "Discombonulating" one have charisma and PRESCENCE. Doesn't matter if it's in the written word, the spoken word, or via visual impact.
Garth Hedger...Damn, that name sounds familar...A good journeymen/fringe-contender hvy from one of the best hvy decades EVER in terms of depth & quality - the 90's? If not, my apologies. You are/were obviously involved in Boxing in some capacity however, and I could swear there was a good club fighter by that name perhaps.
* Being a "journeymen" or a "good club fighter" is a compliment as far as I'm concerned, trust me. I have respect for ANY man that gets in the ring without the big gloves and headgear, and I myself finished with a not so illustrious record of 0-3. (I was under the "three strikes and you're out" rule, as I like to say!)

"The Fight Doctor" Jerome Spears and I have worked together about 15 years and he is one of the best broadcast partners I have ever had. He is a Baltimore icon in the fight game.
The name Jerome Spears definetly sounds familiar. I'll keep an eye/ear out for him in the future.
Question to Garth...
I campaigned vehemently in the 90's for the 10-pound increase (from 190 to 200) in the cruiserweight division. I do NOT feel as though a "super hvy" division is needed though, at least not in our lifetime. (You are roughly the same age as myself) I don't honestly remember your height/frame/body type, but I DO remeber you as being kind of a 'smallish hvy', at least by modern standards. I know this is kind of like pissing in the wind, but had the cruiser limit been 200.lbs in the 90's - would you/could you have campaigned there. (Perhaps not. Maybe you just couldn't have physically, or wouldn't have decided to do so for financial reasons. I understand.) Just curious though, as there has indeed been a few hvy's in the early/mid 2000's that have decided to do so (A kind of friend of mine B.J Flores is one) and I can't help but think that there would have been a few in the 90's as well. I look at the cruiser division as "yesteryears light hvy's", in many ways.
* On the flip side...I have thought for about the last year or so that Antonio Tarver should move UP to cruiserweight.

Great post Garth, you are clearly a very intelligent and articulate guy. And yes - you are indeed the guy I vaguely recall. (A bit bigger than I thought though) And as for myself - I really never had any intention of turning pro. (Among other things, I had it all but talent Garth...LOL) I'm just basically a lifelong (almost literally) Boxing-nut in my 30's.

Just wanted to drop a line to Garth. Your fight with Rowyan Wallace was one of the reasons I began boxing. What a fight man, what a fight. You got balls. Hopefully we'll get to meet in person one day.

For those who don't know or remember what bout Mike is referring to, that was the bout on the undercard of Mark Johnson's IBF Flyweight title defense against Arthur Johnson on February 22, 1998 at the DC Armory.
The Hedger-Wallace bout ended up on national TV on ESPN2 and it was a great bout as Hedger survived a knockdown to stop Wallace in the sixth round. It was an outstanding bout on a solid card that also featured appearances by Beltway Boxers Michael Warrick, Anthony Fields and Vincent "Boojay" White.
The card also marked the pro debut of Jimmy Lange.
