Busy Time Along The Beltway Coming Up!

The next few weeks will be extremely busy for boxers and fans along the Beltway. Starting this week, Beltway Boxers will be in action somewhere almost every week until the end of August. Some of these items have already been talked about but a couple have not. Here is the schedule so far:

Thursday, July 20, Martin's West-- Baltimore Boxing has an amateur show. One of the featured boxers will be light heavyweight Steve Wheeler.

Friday, July 28, Las Vegas--Henry "Sugar Poo" Buchanan faces Lucas Arias in first round bout of ShoBox Super Middleweight tournament.

Friday, August 4, Memphis, TN--Anthony Peterson in ESPN2 co-feature against Marc Thompson.

Wednesday, August 9, Ledyard, CT--Teddy Reid takes on former world champion Verno Phillips in ESPN2 main event.

Saturday, August 12, Las Vegas--Hasim Rahman defends WBC Heavyweight title against Oleg Maskaev on Pay-Per-View.

Saturday, August 12, Ocean City, MD--Baltimore Pro Boxing promotes card at the Ocean City Convention Center. The card is scheduled to be telecast for a tape-delayed showing on Comcast.

Saturday, August 19, Reno, NV -- Sharmba Mitchell takes on Paul Williams on HBO's Boxing After Dark.

Saturday, August 19, Springfield, VA--Promoter Scott Farmer is bringing a card to the ABC Sports Complex.

Friday-Sunday, August 25-27, Washington, DC--The Mayor's Cup Invitational Amateur Boxing Tournament comes to the DC Armory.

And that will lead into September, which right now features DeMarcus Corley in a world title bout, a possible IBF Featherweight title defense for Eric Aiken, and pro cards coming to Woodlawn and Glen Burnie!

Oh sweet, another card at the ABC Complex-are any of the details known yet? And are there any other local cards (Northern VA or DC) that you know about coming up in the next few months?

No details yet about the card in Springfield, ACW. I talked to the promoter, Scott Farmer, and he did say that his son will be on the card as well as Mike Sawyer. But that's all I know.

Other than the two cards in Maryland, there is nothing concrete at the moment. There is talk about another card at the Patriot Center and a show in DC, but nothing is definite.

Alright, sounds good. It's kind of annoying-I don't drive (I live close enough to Springfield to take the taxi), so I'm not able to go to all these shows in Glen Burnie. Sometimes I wished I lived in Vegas-they have a card like, what, every week or so?

ACW, I see that you are a true boxing fan. I have read some of your comments in the past. I work out at Old School Boxing located in Clinton, Maryland. I am not a boxer myself, I just enjoy staying in decent shape. Anyway, I spoke to the owner of Old School. He said that you are more than welcome to visit there when you wish. ACW, you would love the sparring matches that goes on there. I seriously think it is more exciting than most shows I have been to. They have 2 rings and constant sparring through the night. Music Blasting and Blood Flying. It's Great!!! Crowd screaming like it was a World Title Fight. I know you do not have a car; however, I am willing to pick you up at the Naylor Road Metro Station. Give me a call between 5 and 9 at the gym 301-868-0070 My name is James Herring.
Good Luck ACW, and keep supporting the boxing in DC, MD, and VA.
God Bless You...

James, Marquell's right! That was cool! You'll like ACW, he's a nice guy!

I appreciate that offer to him. I'm going to try to get over to Old School myself and check things out!

Thanks for the offer. I might take you up on it if I have time someday (big if).

Thanks again though.
