I can't remain silent anymore. I am a long time fan of boxing and have been going to Maryland cards for the last 10+ years. I use to go to Jake's shows at the Erdman Teamsters Union hall when he did them there and have been going to the Ballroom cards since 1998.

A good card on paper? Let's wait and see until we make any final decions in regards to the actual quality of the show. And I also don't think it has very much to do with the matchmaking, as you can see my Mr. William's post, 2 of the fights have fighters who technically have not made weight yet. I was at a Jake Smith card a few months ago where his matchmaker failed to meet the state's requirements for the total number of rounds needed and Mr. Smith had to fill in with amateur bouts just to get the show to go on. It's a common industry wide policy. When you are dealing with fighter, issues arise and fights fall out. Also, Jake's hometown guys are not going to fall out because Mr. Smith, I've been told, requires all his local fighters to really push tickets for him, and that that a percentage of that ticket money is what they get paid for their purse. So not only do they have to fight, but they are also forced to do the promoters job and sell tickets. Of course they are not going to fall out, and besides, how entertaining is it really to watch the same guys win everytime and to know that Mr. Smith's cards are the best these boxers can hope for throughout their boxing career. If they're lucky, maybe someone will but them on an ESPN card as an opponent where they can get a public loss like Tony Jeter and never really come back. And in refernece to this card, again if you look at the lineup, it's not exactly as originally advertised. Quoting this blog site:

"Cygan (9-1, six KO’s) will take on Akron, OH’s Anthony Little in the eight-round main event. Little (6-3, one KO) is coming off a six-round unanimous decision over George Klinesmith on March 23 in Wheeling, WVA." (posted 6/19/06)

Well, that's a change. Tony Cygan is now supposed to be fighting Roy Ashworth, a guy who is 4-2 and 2 weight classes above Cygan normally. He had to come down in weight and still has not made it, yeah, that fight sounds like it'll be a real contest. (hopefully you noted the sarcasm) Mike Paschall is fighting a guy who has lost 8 out of his last nine fights. Nicklow is in against a ProDebut guy and hasn't had a real opponent yet. He's gone the distance and won decisions against guys who really have some pretty terrible records. I've heard that they gave him a ProDebut guy so as to hopefully get him another win, and this time an easy one to build his confidence a little more. That'll be a quick fight.

Hey Mr. Davis, you may want to look at that paper again.

Good on paper means, just what it says. Tou don't know the quality of the show until its over. As far as advertised fights, all the house fighters are the same just one opponent has been changed at the last minute.Sounds like a pretty good start.
