According to Boxrec.com, NABA Featherweight Champion Eric "Mighty Mouse" Aiken of Forestville,MD lost a six-round unanimous decision to undefeated Johnnie Edwards on Saturday, March 18 in Columbus, OH.
No judges scores were released for the media, but judging by the pictures I saw on the Powers Boxing website (www.powersboxing.com), it looked like a rough tussle.
But having said that, Aiken just cannot afford any more losses like this. Edwards only had five pro bouts before this contest. Add to that the fact that this bout was in Aiken's adopted home base of Columbus. Edwards is from Greensboro, NC. If Aiken wants to be considered as one of the best featherweights in the world, he has to be sharp at all times.

My question is why in the hell would "Mighty Mouse" take a fight like this? It makes no sense. His manager moved him from a 12 rounder to a six rounder against an undefeated fighter who obviously had a strong amateur background. HORRIBLE decision. Mouse is a hell of a fighter, which means that this guy is too. His manager should have known that.
Another bust along with so many others out of Maryland. They may win titles, but once they step up (Holmes, Joppy, Mitchell, Chop Chop, Aiken, Lange (VA) they lose. Plain and simple!
I have been getting more information about this bout. Not to make any excuses for Eric, the word I've received is that he hurt his hand in the second round and it was virtually useless for the rest of the bout.
You may have to define the phrase "stepping up" for me. The fact of the matter is that Holmes, Joppy, Mitchell and Corley all won world titles. If stepping up means going to the elite division, as in being put in the "best pound-for-pound" class, then I have no argument with you. However, at one time, those four were regarded as among the best in their respective divisions. You can't call them busts in that respect.
Lange and Aiken, and you can throw in Darnell Wilson in this category, still have some work to do.
As to why Aiken took this fight, that is beyond me as well.
Well, I can say this. Eric Aiken, who I know personally, would only take a fight if he was advised to by his management. The question should be, why would his management allow him to take this SIX-ROUND fight. I have also heard through the grapevine, that "Mouse" had the guy down in the first and the other guy had two points deducted for fighting dirty. If it looks like shit and smells like shit, it's probly some shit!

Two fights ago Mouse ran into some bullshit in Ohio, looks like they've struck again. This is boxing as we know it. Oh,...Don't say anything on the phone or in writing that you know you wouldn't say or do in person. That demonstrates major coward mentality. How you 'goin judge World Champions and call them 'busts? Obviously, you have no clue of what it takes to become a world class fighter. You have disrespected years and years of hard work and struggle with your anonymous comment.

First of all, the anonymous comment was NOT mine! In fact, the comment made AFTER that one was mine and it DOES have my name on it. The comment also disagrees with everything said by the anonymous writer about the world champions we have had.

No,No,...Digital. How could you think that I was referring to your statement? This is your blog. Obviously, you state what you mean and actually show your face at many beltway events, always available to back-up your statements. Your comment following the "Beltway Boxer's Bash" comment was defending the likes of our World Champions and up and comers. Much respect to you. Again, I'm surprised you misunderstood that.
Also, I made mention to the "Anonymous" comment. Surely, none of your comments could ever be anonymous.

Aside from the misunderstanding as to who wrote the anonymous comment, I agree with Real Dookie. It really isn't fair to bash someone's hard work without at least leaving a penname. I believe that DC and B-more boxers are tremendously talented and are simply too often victims of mismanagement. These young men work very very hard and to call someone a "bust" anonymously just isn't right. It is one thing to leave information or opinions anonymously, but quite another to rub salt in someone's wounds. That said "Mighty Mouse" will be back and if it's local, I'll be there to watch!
When you said "years and years of hard work, I thought you meant MY work, not the boxers. Sorry about that!
Also, I believe that "digital" made this website for people who are passionate about boxing in the DC/B-more e to keep up with their favorite boxing and lend support, not to attack them.
SkinnyScott, you and Real Dookie are so right about the hard work these boxers put in. Not everyone can make the elite level.
These boxers, especially the world champs we've had, should be credited for the careers they've had to date.
Not only that, Skinnyscott, I made this blog to inform people who maybe didn't know that we have such a great area for boxing. Hopefully, they will come on board and support our boxers.
